Summary
Fifteen-year-old Laoise is sent to a research facility in the United States after doctors discover unexplained biological anomalies in her body, and Laoise gets sent to a specialised treatment centre in the United States.
Inside the facility, she meets three other kids brought there for the same reason: Cian, a quiet twelve-year-old who seems strangely drawn to water; Shea, a loud, theatre-obsessed fourteen-year-old who uses humour to hide his fear; and Meabh, an eight-year-old who is far too young to understand what is happening to her.
The program is run by Blackwell, who insists he is observing and treating unusual genetic developments. In reality, he's escalating them.
What begins as testing and monitoring turns into invasive experimentation aimed at forcing the mutations to fully manifest.

Even as an owlet, Stolas could recognise that familiar sense of pain and longing, abandonment and mistrust wedged deep beneath Blitzø's callous mask. Given a second chance at friendship in adulthood, he would be damned if he lost him again. It was never his intention to become hopelessly attached, but it's always been in his nature. He just wanted to help his Blitzy find a release.
Blitzø was out of options. Given the choice of fight or flight, he was always wobbling precariously on the fence and knew the fall on the wrong side was inevitable. So how was he to know that tumbling off said fence and over a certain Goetic balcony would be both the best and most heartbreaking of his life. After all, he had no-one left to disappoint but himself…right?
Commitment issues and self-loathing notwithstanding, this is a story of finding your soulmate in impossible places, getting bitch-slapped with the consequences, and being drawn into each other's orbit anyway.
This fic was inspired by Terminal Curiosity by favspacetwink and moonlumie, and The Mating Habits of Imps by AjWriter, and was borne of my impatience for S3 of the show to release. Please enjoy!
