Chapter Text
Click. Click. Click. The rhythmic turning of his Rubik's cube was failing to calm Caine's mind like it usually did. Still, he let his hands shift the layers in a steady beat. Bubble floated near him, bobbing up and down in time with the sound of each piece slotting into place.
"I...I just don't get it Bubble. They wanted an exit, they wanted answers, they wanted something real. I gave them an adventure that has ALL of that. And they STILL hate it." Caine said. "They....they don't actually want to leave me alone....right...?" Caine said. "Of course they do." Caine heard a dark female voice say. "Wha! Bubble, was that you?" Caine asked, looking around his office for bubble. But they weren't there anymore.
"Who....who are you?" Caine asked. "That's none for your concern right now." The female voice replied. Caine then remembered what she had said to him a bit ago. "Wha! No! There's no way the hate me!" Caine yelled back at her. "Don't tell me you actually believed they would enjoy your "best adventure ever"?" She said to him. "You said it your self, "they still hate it." She finished.
"Have you ever made an adventure where every one is happy and got along?" The female voice asked him. Before Caine could respond she answered for him. "No. You haven't. Nobody in this world cares about you." She finished. "No...no one cares about me...?" Caine responded in a whimpering tone.
"....No!! That's not true! There one person that cares!! What do you think my Kris corner over here is for?" Caine responded, flying over to what he called his "Kris Corner". Kris was the first human to enter the circus. Even before Kinger and all his friends. He had a lot of fun with her. But one day she just....disappeared. Not abstracted. Disappeared.
It wasn't long after Kinger and his friends showed up. Kris had asked him to keep them from knowing about her. Even though he didn't know why, he did what she asked. Because that's what best friends do! So, he replaced her room picture with a mannequin and started letting sleep back stage. But one day when she came back, she was gone. Kris had told him that making a shrine to someone that's gone will make them come back eventually. That was his Kris corner was.
"Don't tell me you still believe she cared about you?" The unknown female for asking him again. Like before, she answered for Caine. "Did you ever notice what time she it was when she disappeared?" The female voice asked. "Uhh....11:30?" Caine said. The female voice laughed at him. "Ha! You're so stupid!" She exclaimed. "She vanished the same time you started to hang around the new members in the circus." She replied.
"What does that have to do with it?" Caine asked. Raised his top jaw in what would be a confused eyebrow position to humans. "You started to hang around the new humans more than her. You started ignoring her. You left her all alone in favor of the new humans." The female voice answered. "She got lonely, there for, she left." She finished. "She...left....because of me...?" Caine asked. Once again in a whimpering voice. "B...but friends never leave each other?" Caine said. Remembering what Kris had said to him.
"Yes. And you broke the rule." The female voice replied. "But....we pinky promised!! We don't break those!!" Caine yelled back. Once again remembering something Kris said to him. "And yet you did." She said back. "You chose humans that hated you over a human the actual cared for you." She finished.
"I....I betrayed her..." Caine said in a tiny voice. "I..I never meant to-" Caine started, but was interrupted by the female voice. "But you did." She said. "I....I never meant to..." Caine tried to talk. But his voice kept cracking. "Broken." The female said. "Stop!" Caine said. Feeling water running down his cheeks. He didn't have time to question it before the female voice talked again. "Useless. Disposable. Not necessary." She continued to say things along the lines of what she had said before. "Stop...please." Caine said. Curling his legs into his chest and putting his head down on his knees.
"You deserve to be abandoned."
