Chapter Text
Thirty years had passed since Britain descended into the bloodiest magical war in its history.
For three relentless decades, Lord Voldemort and his Death Eaters waged war not only against wizardkind, but against Muggles as well. The Statute of Secrecy shattered beneath cursed skies, forcing two worlds to collide in violence and desperation. Cities burned. Ancient magical houses crumbled into dust. Entire bloodlines vanished. No village, whether magical or Muggle, escaped untouched.
In the end, Voldemort fell at the hands of a child.
No one ever learned the boy's name. History remembered only the jagged lightning-shaped scar upon his forehead. Before anyone could claim him as a hero, he disappeared without leaving so much as a whisper behind.
His victory ended a tyrant's reign, but it did not end the war.
Britain was left broken.
The Ministry of Magic existed only in name, its authority reduced to hollow decrees no one obeyed. The Aurors were too few, too exhausted, and too divided to restore order. Rogue covens, and the remnants of the Death Eaters carved the country into territories ruled by fear rather than law. Even the old Pure-blood families, once convinced of their untouchable supremacy, found their fortunes shattered beneath the weight of endless conflict.
The years of bloodshed had erased the boundary between magical and Muggle Britain. Their worlds had become hopelessly entangled, and the truth of magic could no longer be hidden. Wizards and Muggles lived side by side out of necessity rather than trust, united only by starvation, ruin, and the daily struggle to survive.
Peace never came.
Only different kinds of violence.
Poverty spread like a plague. Justice became a luxury reserved for the powerful. The strong preyed upon the weak, and no law remained capable of restraining them.
As if war itself were not enough. Omegas were hunted, traded, and claimed as spoils of war. Alphas forged violent packs to seize territory and influence, while Betas struggled merely to survive between them.
It was into this fractured world that Severus Snape was born.
War was all he had ever known.
The son of a violent, drunken Muggle father and a neglectful witch who had long surrendered to despair, Severus learned from childhood that survival demanded silence, caution, and sacrifice. Years later, with the continent descending ever further into chaos, he sought only one thing—to escape Britain alive with his two children before the country finally consumed itself.
Long before that desperate journey, however, there had been another battle.
James Potter first met Severus Snape in the soot-stained streets of Cokeworth, where smoke from burning factories mingled with the lingering stench of Dark Magic. Hogwarts had not yet been founded, and no sanctuary existed for magical children. They grew up among hunger, violence, and death instead of classrooms and enchanted corridors.
James was born into one of the old Pure-blood families, raised with privilege, wealth, and the certainty that his blood entitled him to command others. Two years older than Severus—and already presenting as a powerful Alpha—he regarded the impoverished half-blood boy as little more than someone to mock, intimidate, and break.
Severus, stubborn beyond reason and unwilling to bow despite every disadvantage, answered every insult with another of his own. Their rivalry became infamous within Cokeworth. They fought with fists before they learned proper magic, and with spells as soon as they were capable of casting them. Every encounter ended in bruises, blood, or bitter words.
Then, when Severus was fifteen years old, they vanished from one another's lives as Britain continued its slow collapse into darkness.
Years passed.
Now, fate has brought them together once more.
And this is where our story begins.
