Work Text:
Marah groans as she collapses onto the couch in the quarters she shares with Kapri. She thought her uncle could be a task master, but he was actually nothing compared to To—Sensei Hansen. The former Wind Ranger is ruthless during her sessions, which came as a surprise to both sisters. If anything, she expected her cousin to be the hard ass, but no, it's the Water Sensei.
"I wonder if I could transfer to the Thunder Academy," she groans, throwing her arm over her face.
Kapri, as exhaused as she is, drops into a chair. "You know we have to stay here."
"I knoooow."
"Stop whining, please, my head can't take it."
Marah moves her arm to glare at at her sister but stops, noting how pale she is and the tightness around her eyes, the way her lips are pinched. Oh. Oh it really is that bad.
If there's one thing that can get through her own exhaustion, give her the energy to act, it's her sister suffering. She pushes herself up and stumbles just a little in the few steps to where Kapri is trying to melt into the chair.
"C'mon sis," Marah says gently, "come lay down."
Kapri whines a little, but not like the bratty kind of whine, it's totally the if I move my head might explode whine. The much less fun one. Still, she does move at Marah's insistence and flops on the couch, curling up just a little.
With that much accomplished, Marah goes to their bathroom and fetches the anti-migraine tonic some alien alchemist made for them a while ago. The flask has a spell on it to always be full, which is so nice as she's not sure nothing on Earth could be as effective. And she really doesn't want to think of the absolute nightmare of trying to get an equivalent from some doctor.
Flask in hand, she goes into the little kitchen and grabs a clean washcloth, wetting it with cold water and then ringing it out so it's just damp not dripping.
With both items in hand she goes back to where Kapri looks absolutely miserable, blond hair a sweat, tangled mess that's going to be a nightmare to brush out later. Marah kneels on the floor, gently taps her sister to get her attention, and hands her the open flask when her pain clouded blue eyes crack open.
There's a little shake in Kapri's hand as she takes the flask, but she manages to take a deep swig before handing it back. Marah sets it on the side table for easy access in case Kapri needs it again and then holds up the damp cloth for her to see. Her sister gives a small, tired smile and she takes that to mean the offering is accepted. She carefully drapes the cool cloth across her eyes and gives her shoulder a soft pat before she gets back to her feet.
With her sister taken care of, Marah goes to deal with her own exhaustion.
