Work Text:
One of the most pivotal questions that can be asked about Ren's transformation and the paradigm shift in his relationship with Shuhu could possibly be the following: why use Voracity to seal Shuhu inside of himself for good?
During Arcadia of Mystery and Terror, The Lethe Below the Living, we're painted a fairly plain picture about the nature of Oroboros' burial across the stars. If you've keyed into my other metas, I've dived into subjects like the possibility of other locations where this Voracity + Abundance combination may be present.
However, in the same MSQ of Primeval & Other Times and Mortenax Blade's third character story, Ren using Voracity to do the inverse of Aha is a curious matter I didn't quite understand until recently. While Aha's approach was to use Abundance to seal Oroboros' remains, Ren does the opposite. Regarding Shuhu, there are places as to why it makes sense.
In Annotations from "Ode to Reignbow Path", Hanya's third character story, to the Version 4.0 Trailer: "No Aha at Full Moon", something that becomes exceedingly clear is the curious possibility that the living planets, Rahu and Ketu Mirage, may also be locations where husks of Oroboros may have been present, due to them being described as living planets infamous for bearing maws capable of devouring stars and planets, an attribute famously attributed to Oroboros.
Simply put, not only does this unlock the notion that Rahu may have been a revived husk of Oroboros, but that they were ineffably under the control of Shuhu, the Emanator sealed inside of Ren.
As stated in the Overview of Xianzhou's Materia Medica, Rahu and Ketu Mirage were planets revived by Shuhu and subsequently under his control.
As we learn at the cliffhanger at the very end of Limelight, In Ravages Does the Whistle Sound, it is possible to awaken the husks of Oroboros, much in the way Shuhu may have done the same with Rahu and Ketu Mirage.
Simply put, just as Shuhu once revived planets where husks of Oroboros may have been buried and weaponized them under his control, Ren did the inverse and used Voracity to form the seal that would ultimately bind Shuhu inside him forever.
