The Alphas of Stiles Stilinski/Stiles Summer Stories 2026
Deputy Noah Stilinski was the first one at the scene of Gordon and Margaret Miller’s car accident. He held Margaret’s hand as she died and promised her to save her child. He gave her CPR even after she was gone, trying to keep the baby alive. It was sickening, in a way, but he had made a promise to a dying woman and he would not disappoint her.
When the ambulance came, he rode with it, not leaving Margaret’s side. He stood tensely in the waiting room of the hospital until he got news from the doctors. And when he stood before the room with all the newborn babies and first looked at that tiny baby, he felt the same thing he had felt mere months ago, when his son had been born. He looked at that small, defenseless child, who had nobody in the world and he knew he would protect him.
“Honey, you’re home late,” Claudia said when he got home. “...Oh, baby, what happened?”
“Lost someone today,” Noah whispered roughly, leaning into his wife’s touch.
“I’m so sorry,” Claudia frowned concerned. “Is there anything I can do?”
Noah opened his mouth, then paused. Mietek was crying upstairs, drawing both their attention. They abandoned the conversation in favor of checking on their son. Claudia cooed softly as she picked up the baby, bouncing him on her hip. Noah’s face softened as he watched his wife and their baby. Mietek settled down some and snuggled sleepily into his mother.
“They had a son,” Noah said. “She was pregnant, when she died. They had a son, a son who was born an orphan. The kid has nobody, Claudia. I called it in, Laura checked to find any family, but Margaret’s parents died years ago, Gordon’s mother is already elderly and in a home herself, the father was never in the picture there. Neither of them had any siblings. This baby has nobody.”
And then his wife looked at him, with those soft, warm eyes of hers. With all the love she had to give. She’d always been an unconventional omega, a spitfire who bit back and snarled at any alpha who annoyed her. It was what he had first fallen in love with. Everyone had told him not to, that Claudia Gajos wasn’t a good omega, she’d make a horrible wife, an awful mother. Noah had served more than one black eye to those telling him that and in the end, she’d proved them all wrong. Because she was a loving wife and mother, she was all Noah could ever ask for.
“Maybe we could take him?” Claudia suggested. “If nothing else, at least to foster him, until a permanent solution can be found, I mean. The sheriff has fast-tracked emergency fostering for other deputies in the past, hasn’t she? Her pull in town comes in handy with that.”
Noah smiled and stepped up to his wife to gently kiss her temple. A week later, they got to take the baby home. Things were fast-tracked, Sheriff Hale helped Noah along with that, and suddenly, Noah and Claudia had two sons. They named the baby Jackson Gordon Miller, to honor the boy’s parents – Gordon, after his father, and Jackson, his mother’s maiden name.
A few months later, he officially became Jackson Gordon Miller Stilinski, when they signed the adoption papers. Because they had both fallen in love and couldn’t even consider giving him away again, couldn’t imagine a world where he wasn’t their son.

“You’re not my son!” Claudia spat, shoving Jackson away. “I only had one baby! I don’t know who you are, but you’re not my son!”
Jackson stared wide-eyed and terrified at his mom. All he’d wanted to do was protect Stiles, when she’d started hitting him and calling him a demon, a changeling. Why was she saying these things to them? He blinked tears out of his eyes and grabbed his brother’s hand tightly before running out of the house. Stiles stumbled after him, but Jackson never let go of his hand.
“Jacks. Jacks, slow down,” Stiles called. “Where are we even going. Jackson!”
Jackson only stopped running when they stood in front of his best friend’s door. He had met Danny in kindergarten and practically imprinted on the other boy. Danny was funny and patient and into sports, just like Jackson. They’d been best friends since then and inseparable. Stiles doubled over, panting hard. He glared up at Jackson softly, but Jackson didn’t mind him.
“Hello, boys,” Mister Mahealani smiled as he opened the door, but the smile dimmed when he saw Stiles and Jackson. “Come inside, kids. Kami, we have visitors. Danny! The boys are here.”
Steps thundered down the stairs, but it was not Danny. It was Danny’s younger sisters, both coming to a quick stop in front of Jackson and staring up at him with wide eyes. They were really clingy and kind of annoying, especially when they would whisper and giggle with each other.
“Hi, Jackson,” Leila grinned at him, showing off her tooth-gap.
“Do you wanna play with us?” Alina asked eagerly.
“No,” Jackson frowned at them. “I’m here to see Danny.”
“Don’t be a jerk,” Stiles argued, elbowing him. “We can play with you guys later.”
Jackson rolled his eyes at his brother. Mister Mahealani rested a hand on each boy and steered them upstairs to Danny’s room. Missus Mahealani pocked her head out of the kitchen to smile at them and to call the girls to her so they wouldn’t follow them.
“Danny, your friends are here,” Mister Mahealani repeated as he opened the door.
“Hey, Jackson,” Danny grinned. “Hello, Stiles.”
Stiles’ eyes were wide as he looked around the room. Right. He’d never been here before. Danny was Jackson’s best friend. Stiles had his own. The annoying, stuck-up, redheaded knows-it-all. Jackson had no idea why Stiles spent time with Lydia Martin at all. Girls were stupid and she, in particular, was just mean. Danny was way more awesome.
“Mom is…” Jackson frowned and sat down on his best friend’s bed. “She’s getting worse.”
She’d been behaving weird lately, had said strange things, forgotten stuff. But how could she forget Jackson? His parents had told him years ago that he was adopted, that his parents had died in a car accident and dad had been the first one there and they’d taken him home and chosen to love him. How could she forget that. Every night, when bringing him to bed, she told him that she loved him. Every night, even though he was now eight years old and way too old for this stuff.
“What happened?” Danny asked worried, looking from Jackson to Stiles. “Wait. What happened?”
He stepped up to Stiles and cupped the other boy’s cheek. That was when Jackson noticed the reddening skin too. He had thought he’d pulled his brother away on time, but apparently hadn’t.
“It’s fine,” Stiles shrugged and blushed a little. “Mom’s… forgetting stuff. Sometimes, she forgets that she loves us. But it’s fine. She’ll be fine. It’ll get better.”
Jackson pulled his legs up to his chest and wrapped his arms around them. Neither of the boys noticed that the door still stood open somewhat and that Mister Mahealani was outside.

Noah looked up in confusion when someone cast a long shadow over his desk. He was mildly confused when he found not just Kai but also Kami Mahealani stand before him, both with matching concerned looks on their faces. Danny was a good kid. The best possible influence for Jackson, because both Noah’s sons were little trouble magnets. Jackson could be very arrogant, which had gotten him into more fights than Noah was ready to admit. Usually, Noah did not have to deal with Danny’s parents being worried. Now, the Martins, they had Noah on speed-dial to complain about the trouble Stiles and Lydia got into.
“Your sons were at our place yesterday,” Kai started slowly.
“What did Stiles say where he got the bruise?” Kami cut her husband off right away.
Noah frown at that. “He said he got into a fight at school. Some boy was teasing him about being an omega. Kids these days. They’re so young, they aren’t even presented yet and they’re already bullying each other about their secondary sexes…”
He heaved a sigh and rubbed his face. It wasn’t the first time. Though they were unpresented, it was still clear what they would present as. And Stiles, as a male omega, stood out. They were rare. Omegas were already the rarest presentation, but male omegas were one in a hundred. So though their scents were dulled because they were unpresented, Stiles still was… different. And Stiles was already different enough, with his ADHD and his tendency to seek trouble.
“That’s not what happened, Noah,” Kai sighed and sat down heavily on the chair opposite Noah’s desk. “The boys were both quite rattled when they got to our place. I overheard them telling Danny what happened. Your wife… Your wife hit Stiles.”
Disbelief quickly turned into rage. “Claudia would never hurt our boys.”
“Claudia doesn’t remember that they’re her sons,” Kami said, her voice gentle. “Noah, have you… Have you ever heard of frontotemporal dementia?”
“What?” Noah frowned confused.
“It’s the only type of dementia that even younger people can get,” Kami was not just speaking gently with him, she was speaking in her professional doctor voice, Noah had heard that one before when the kids got hurt during a soccer game. “I… noticed some changes in her behavior lately too, when I was by her shop. She is forgetting things, isn’t she? Her temper is shorter too, isn’t it?”
“I…” Noah trailed off. “Stiles, he got his ADHD from Claudia, you know. It’s not unusual for Claudia to walk into a room and forget what she wanted there. And your temper getting shorter with two chaotic kids like ours isn’t unusual. But she would never hit either of them.”
Kami sighed and shook her head, reaching a hand out for Noah’s. “Please come by the hospital with her tomorrow. I will make the time. But I want to do a full neurological exam on her. To be sure?”
“To… be sure,” Noah nodded, certain that it would turn out to be nothing.

Things changed in the Stilinski household when Claudia died. No. No, they changed even before that. Jackson started pulling away from everyone aside from Danny, pretty much hiding out at his best friend’s place as often as he could get away with, which was a lot. Because between work and tending to Claudia, Noah didn’t have much time left to take care of the boys. Because Stiles was throwing himself head first into the household, which was coming short too with their mom being sick and their dad being busy taking care of her. Stiles coped his way, Jackson his own way.
But then Claudia actually died. Claudia died and they had a funeral. Mayor Hale – the niece of the late Sheriff Hale – came in person to give her condolences. Everyone came to give their condolences. To tell them how wonderful Claudia was, how much she would be missed, how sorry they were. But nobody was really there for them. So they threw themselves right into their bad copings. Stiles tried to take care of everything so he would be occupied and not think about any of this. Jackson threw himself into sports and spending as much time at the Mahealanis as he could, Noah buried himself in his work and drowned his pain in a bottle of whiskey.
Until one day at school, when Jackson, Stiles, Danny and Lydia were sitting together to eat, as they always were. Danny was asking how they were holding up.
“We’re doing fine,” Jackson muttered defensively. “Noah is working a lot. He’s kind of not dealing with the fact that Claudia is dead, like if he’s not home to notice her absence, it’s not true.”
Stiles’ grip on his cutlery tightened so much, his knuckles turned white. Lydia frowned concerned and reached out to take his hand, so he eased off, but he turned to glare at his brother hard.
“What… What did you just say?” Stiles asked with barely suppressed anger.
“What? It’s the truth,” Jackson shrugged, glaring at his brother.
“Why are you calling them Noah and Claudia?” Stiles clarified.
“They’re not my parents,” Jackson turned away from Stiles. “Claudia made that very clear before she died and Noah is making it very clear right now. He doesn’t give a shit about me. Or you.”
Before anyone knew what was happening, Stiles’ fist connected hard with Jackson’s jaw. The hit was so unexpected, it knocked Jackson clear off his chair. Not that it was over with that. Stiles lunged at him, his fist curling into Jackson’s shirt and the other hitting him again. Jackson stared up at Stiles with wide, surprised eyes, Lydia screamed and everyone in the cafeteria gathered around them. Stiles didn’t care. He kept punching Jackson, over and over again, until a teacher pulled him off and screamed about detention and going to the principal’s office.
/break\
Jackson was brought to the nurse first, his injuries checked and bandaged, before he too was escorted to the principal’s office. Stiles already sat in front of it, his fingers clawed into his jeans, bleeding knuckles and all. He was shaking. Not with tears or anything, but with anger. Jackson knew that look, had seen it a lot whenever Stiles got bullied.
“Fuck you, that hurt,” Jackson spat as he sat down next to the other boy.
He rubbed his jaw irritated. The teacher left the two of them alone to wait for the principal.
“Not as much as what you said,” Stiles forced out between gritted teeth.
“What?” Jackson frowned confused.
He was practically knocked out by the way Stiles looked at him, big, wet eyes but fury in them. “You said mom and dad aren’t your parents. That makes me not your brother, asshole.”
Jackson jerked back some, opened and closed his mouth a few times. “That’s not…”
“That’s exactly what you said!” Stiles spat angrily. “Fuck you! Mom said I’m not her son either! Mom called me a demon! You, she just didn’t remember! What does that make me, then? If it makes you not her son? Does that make me a demon? And dad is trying! Poorly! But he is! And I’m doing everything I can to try and hold things together! Do you even notice that, or are you so busy running away and hiding at Danny’s to notice that I’ve been doing your laundry? Cooking our food? Preparing our lunch? Buying groceries after school? No, you just take it for granted that these things are being taken care of. But mom is dead, she’s not taking care of them anymore. I am. And I’m doing it all alone because dad is out drinking and you are out hiding and I’m alone!”
Stiles cut himself off with a choked on sob and doubled over. Jackson stared at him, completely horrified. He… He hadn’t known that. He hadn’t even questioned that. There was food at home, because there was always food at home. His clothes were clean, because they always were.
“I didn’t…” Jackson trailed off, voice soft.
“Because you don’t care,” Stiles spat, glaring at the ground. “You only care about yourself. That you have the food and the clean clothes. That mom hurt you. That dad is leaving you alone. It’s all about your grief. I’m here too! I’m hurting too! And you’re leaving me too.”
Stiles shook with his tears at this point and Jackson couldn’t help but lean over and pull the other boy into a hug. Stiles made to push him off, but instead, he pulled Jackson closer, burying his face in Jackson’s neck. Six months after Claudia’s death, the Stilinski brothers cried together for the very first time. And they cried and cried, not noticing their absolutely horrified father, who had come to the school as soon as he got the call that his sons got into a fight.
Because Jackson wasn’t the only one who hadn’t noticed these things. Noah hadn’t either. And in that moment, as he stood before his sons, watching them cry in each other’s arms, having heard Stiles say all these awful things that were so painfully true, Noah knew things needed to change.
/break\
Things changed again, after that fight at school. While Jackson still felt abandoned by both Claudia and Noah, he grew fiercely protective of Stiles. He never turned his back on his brother again. And things also changed because Noah got sober, got his act together. He still struggled with his grief, but he prioritized his sons over his own pain and somehow, that helped him heal too. It helped all three Stilinski men heal, together. And things got better, slowly.
By the time the boys were fourteen and presented, Stiles and Jackson were practically inseparable. And though it wasn’t a surprise by any means that Stiles was an omega and Jackson an alpha, knowing what they would present as and living with the reality of it were two different things.
Stiles had been teased before, but now he got outright bullied. Male omegas were weird. Boys in the locker room called him girly, suggested he should be in the girls’ locker room with that sweet scent of his, that he didn’t belong there, with the other boys.
“Wanna say that again?” Jackson asked, a deep glare on his face as he put himself between his brother and the bully of the day. “What did you just say about my brother?”
“Oh, come on, Jackson,” the guy, a beta, laughed. “You know I’m right.”
“Try again,” Danny requested as he came to stand next to his best friend.
Both alphas straightened to their full height, easily towering over the beta until the guy ran off with his tail between his legs. Jackson turned toward his brother with a frown, Danny looked worried too. Stiles just huffed and crossed his arms in frustration.
“Guys,” Stiles groaned annoyed. “I can take care of this shit my self.”
“Yeah,” Danny offered a dimpled smile. “Your way usually ends up with someone in the infirmary and you at the principal’s office, Stiles.”
“Dad’s really tired of bailing you out,” Jackson agreed. “Look, these fuckers are intimidated away by us because we’re alphas. If that works, without anyone in the infirmary, accept it.”
“Fuck you,” Stiles narrowed his eyes at his brother in frustration. “...Thanks.”
“They’ll lay off eventually,” Danny promised, resting a comforting hand on Stiles’ arm. “They’ll realize that you’re not a puppy they can just kick but more like… a feral cat who will bite and scratch, and then they’ll stop, because bullying someone who fights back isn’t ‘fun’.”
Stiles wrinkled his nose at the comparison, even if it was fair. He also tried hard not to blush, because Danny’s hand was still on his arm and that always made his pulse race. Danny was just so pretty. He’d always been pretty, but ever since he had presented, he was somehow even prettier. And his scent was so comforting and nice. And maybe Stiles had a tiny crush. But it was probably just because Danny was the only alpha, beside his dad and brother, who was nice to him and not bullying him or making fun of him. It’d die down again, eventually.
“So…” Jackson cleared his throat, as he returned to getting changed. “You… You had plans with Lydia this weekend, right? What was it, again?”
Stiles narrowed his eyes at his brother. “We are going to see Sherlock Holmes. It’s with Robert Downey Junior. Why do you ask?”
Jackson shrugged and turned to look at Danny. “You like that guy too, right? We could go with them? If you wanted. I don’t really care.”
Danny looked as unimpressed as Stiles felt, but he sighed and nodded. “Sure, why not.”
“Dannyboy, no!” Stiles yelped and threw his hands up. “Don’t enable him! Lydia deserves better than his lame-ass attempts at being close to her. If he wants to go to the movies with her, he should just ask her out on a real date instead of using both of us as pawns.”
Another dimpled smile and Stiles kind of melted. “Jackson is gonna pay for the tickets, and the popcorn. So why should I say no?”
Jackson glared at his best friend. “I didn’t say I was paying anything.”
“Oh, well then I have other plans,” Danny shrugged. “And you probably do too, right, Stiles?”
It took a moment, before Stiles grinned with an edge of evil. “Yeah. You know what, Jacks, it is so nice that you are inviting us to the movies. Of course we can all go together.”
“That’s not what I said!” Jackson glared at them both. “That is not what I said!”
“I mean, then I guess you really do have to find a way to ask Lydia on a real date,” Danny shrugged.
Jackson ground his teeth and glared even harder. “...Fine. I’m paying for shit.”
Danny winked at Stiles and lifted a hand for a high five and Stiles’ heart jumped as he did so. It also started racing at the realization that he was going to see a movie with Danny, while Jackson and Lydia were pretending it was not going to be a date. (Jackson wasn’t the only one in denial, but Stiles was also not enabling Lydia’s bad taste in men.)
/break\
“How long do you think it’ll take Stiles and Danny to figure things out, babe?”
Jackson looked up from Lydia’s bed to watch his girlfriend put on make-up. He loved when dad was on a night shift because it meant he could sneak out and spend the night at Lydia’s. So maybe it had taken them a bit to figure shit out and maybe kid Jackson had been wrong about girls being stupid and Lydia being particularly annoying, because actually, Lydia was pretty perfect and maybe Danny and Stiles had pushed him enough during freshman year for them to figure shit out. They’d been dating for nearly a year now, had become kind of the golden couple of school now that they were in sophomore year and Jackson was captain of the lacrosse team. Sure, they fought a lot, but shit, he loved that girl. Maybe also because of how often they fought. Because Jackson was damn popular, now that they were in high school, and most girls just giggled and fawned over him. Lydia didn’t. She was rarely impressed with him, she told him things straight and she never let him get away with shit and he absolutely adored her for it.
“What do you mean?” Jackson asked confused, once he was a little more awake.
“Stiles. And Danny,” Lydia shot him a pointed, unimpressed look.
“What about them?” Jackson sat up and ruffled his hair.
She rolled her eyes at him and yeah, sometimes, Jackson could really see why Lydia and Stiles were best friends, they were cut from the same cloth. Maybe that was part of why Jackson accepted her bossing him around like that so easily, because he was used to it from home.
“Stiles and Danny,” Lydia repeated, more slowly, like that changed anything. “Oh, seriously. Stiles has had a crush on Danny pretty much since first grade. Granted, I don’t think he realized it back then. But it got really bad after we all presented.”
“What. No,” Jackson made a face. “I would know if my brother were into my best friend.”
“...No, you wouldn’t,” Lydia shot him a look. “You didn’t even notice that you were into me until I spelled it out for you. It was kind of sad, actually.”
Jackson flushed at that, but he couldn’t exactly deny it either. He had been trying to ignore his own feelings for Lydia for a long time, because she was Stiles’ best friend and he had been so determined to find her annoying and stupid. But then they’d presented and he started looking at girls differently. It wasn’t even some big thing of her presenting and her scent changing and making him notice her. She was a beta, not much had changed for her with presenting. But Jackson, he noticed her anyway and he couldn’t comprehend what he was feeling for a long time. He would just look at her in awe and feel stupid when she smiled and wanted to spend time with her and…
“Fuck,” Jackson blinked repeatedly. “Stiles is in love with Danny.”
Stiles did all of that shit! He would always be weird around Danny. Squirmy and wide-eyed. Asking dumb questions, trying to get Danny’s attention. It used to annoy Danny a lot when they were little, and Jackson related to that because he had felt the same way about Danny’s little sisters who always tried to spend time with him when he was over at Danny’s. But lately… Well, lately Danny had minded less. He had even willingly spent more and more time with Stiles. Jackson hadn’t really noticed, or had dismissed it as them scheming together to set Jackson and Lydia up, but…
“Holy shit, Danny is in love with Stiles,” Jackson whispered when the realization hit.
Lydia smiled pleased and kissed his cheek. “There you go, babe.”
“What… the fuck… do I do with that?” Jackson asked, a little lost. “That’s my brother. And my best friend. That’s weird, right?”
“You’re Stiles’ brother and I’m his best friend,” Lydia pointed out.
Jackson tilted his head thoughtfully. Danny was Jackson’s best friend, Stiles was Lydia’s best friend. If Danny and Stiles started dating, the four of them could do so much more with each other. Jackson knew he’d been neglecting both, his brother and his best friend a lot since he got together with Lydia. To be fair, Lydia was very demanding, and this was Jackson’s first relationship, so he was still trying to get the hang of how these things worked. But if his best friend and his brother started dating, with his brother being his girlfriend’s best friend, then that would solve so many of Jackson’s problems in one go. This was perfect.
“How do we make them figure this shit out, Lyds?” Jackson asked.
He was met with an unholy smile that showed him Lydia already had a plan.
/break\
Lydia had invited the Stilinski brothers to the Martin lake house for the weekend. It was only spring, but it was already hot like summer, so the thought of spending the weekend just soaking wet in the lake sounded really good to him. He got out of his Jeep and left Jackson to carry both their shit – what was the point in having an alpha brother if he couldn’t play up the weak omega card when it became convenient. A broad grin was on his lips when he spotted Lydia, coming toward them from the lake, wearing a pink bikini. The grin froze on Stiles’ lips when he noticed Danny following Lydia, wearing swim shorts. No shirt. Shirtless Danny. Danny without a shirt.
“Danny is here too,” Stiles croaked out.
Jackson smirked at him and clapped a hand on his shoulder. “Yeah. Figured it wasn’t fair if you got your best friend to hang out with and I didn’t. Besides, you and Danny can spend time together while Lydia and I are having… alone time.”
“Gross. Forever gross. I told you to never ever imply that you are having sex with Lydia,” Stiles groaned frustrated. “It’s disgusting. You shouldn’t be doing any of that, especially not with her.”
Jackson snorted and flipped him off before dumping Stiles’ bag at his feet and then heading straight for Lydia. He wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her into a kiss. Stiles glared at them, only a little envious. He wasn’t exactly single by choice, after all. But alphas tended to run for the hills, even if they had laid off the bullying at this point. No alpha was dumb enough to try and get with the sheriff’s omega son.
“Hey, Stiles,” Danny smiled at Stiles and bent down to pick up his bag. “Come on.”
“Thanks, Danny,” Stiles blinked as he watched the alpha carry his bag. “I can do that myself.”
“It’s all good,” Danny tilted his head. “So, what have you been up to lately?”
Stiles launched into what was probably a way too detailed answer about his werewolf research. There were weird cougar sightings happening lately. Strange animal attacks. But he didn’t believe they really were cougars, there were no wild cougars around Beacon Hills. He had also sneaked into dad’s office to read all the reports and the sightings just sounded more like a werewolf. He was sure there was a werewolf loose in Beacon Hills.
“A werewolf?” Danny looked at him amused. “In Beacon Hills?”
“Dude, did you not notice how much McCall has changed?” Stiles asked wide-eyed. “The kid has always been asthmatic and now he is suddenly the star player of the lacrosse team? Without a single asthma attack at all? Don’t you find that suspicious? Asthma doesn’t cure itself and people who have been physically unable to seriously do sports for all their lives don’t suddenly become protegees over night. Like, it’s weird. It’s suspicious!”
That did give Danny pause and he frowned. “I mean, I guess so. But… werewolves?”
“There have been wolf sightings in Beacon Hills for years, despite there not being any wolves in California,” Stiles pointed out excitedly. “And I’m telling you, it’s shady.”
“Stop being a nerd,” Jackson groaned as him and Lydia came to join them.
“What? You’re the one who said that McCall was being off,” Stiles argued.
“Yeah, like… steroids and drugs kind of off. Not werewolf off,” Jackson snorted.
/break\
Lydia was the most awesome person outside Stiles’ family. She had been his best friend since kindergarten, because she was as smart as him but in a different way. And somehow, that had made them click when they’d first worked together to solve a problem. They complimented each other’s smarts. She’d been his closest confidant for years now. And then his stupid brother had to go and fall for her. And sure, he was happy for them both, but now Jackson was hogging Stiles’ best friend and it was so annoying. Like right now. He glared at the couple.
“What’s up?” Danny asked amused. “Are you trying to long distance kill Jackson again?”
“Yes,” Stiles hissed. “One day, it is going to work, I’m telling you.”
He made the mistake of turning toward Danny. Still shirtless Danny, glistening with lake water. It was evening and they had been swimming most of the day. They had a fire going at the lake’s beach right now and were doing a little improvised barbecue. After the first few steaks, Jackson and Lydia had rather turned their attention to heavily making out with each other.
“You should really be used to them by now,” Danny pointed out.
Stiles shrugged and shuddered a little. While the days were already pretty hot, the nights were still cool. Even with the fire burning in front of them. Danny frowned at him and reached over to get his own shirt, handing it to Stiles. Stiles blinked dumbly at the alpha because what.
“It’s all good, my stuff is inside, I can just go and get something,” Stiles argued.
“Just put on the shirt, Stiles,” Danny rolled his eyes.
Stiles gave a jerky nod and put on the shirt. The shirt that smelled like Danny. Stiles hoped the darkness covered his blush and also the fact that he was sniffing the collar.
“You know,” Danny whispered very softly and leaned closer to Stiles, until Stiles’ heart was racing. “Jackson has been campaigning for you lately and I was wondering if that came from you.”
“Huh?” Stiles asked confused, staring at the alpha next to him.
Danny scooted closer, until their shoulders were bumping. “I always kind of assumed that Jackson was trying to discourage me from asking you out, either because he found it weird, or because he knew that you weren’t into me and was trying to save me from making a fool of me. But he has really been hyping you up lately. So, I was wondering, if maybe you put him up to that.”
“Asking me out?” Stiles asked stunned. “What? Why? What?”
“You’re cute, Stiles,” Danny shrugged. “I like you. I’ve liked you for a while. That’s why I kept pushing Jackson and Lydia together, because I figured if they would be dating, we would get to spend more time together too. You’re smart and funny and cute.”
“Me?” Stiles asked baffled. “Are you sure?”
“Don’t do that,” Danny frowned at him. “Yeah, you. You should know that. You own a mirror and you must have learned from Jackson how to use it.”
Stiles couldn’t help the snort at that. And then there was a broad grin spreading over his lips. Was Danny actually into him? Wait. Why was Jackson hyping him up? He turned toward Jackson and Lydia, but the couple was suspiciously gone. Leaving Danny and Stiles alone.
“I, uh, might have had a crush on you for… a while,” Stiles admitted flustered. “But I doubt Jackson knew about that. He doesn’t notice shit like that. He didn’t even notice when he was starting to have feelings for Lydia, why would he notice that I had feelings for you?”
“Mh,” Danny nodded. “Fair point, actually. So, if I kissed you now, that would be okay?”
Stiles’ eyes widened, but he gave a very sharp nod. Being kissed by Danny was something he had been dreaming about pretty much since he understood the concept of kissing. Danny grinned at him softly and reached out to cup his cheek, tilting his head until their lips met. Stiles’ toes curled as he felt Danny’s soft lips against his and he leaned closer to hold onto the alpha.
“Wait, is that why you always protected me from alpha bullies?” Stiles blurted out as soon as the kiss broke. “Because you like me? Were you being protective of me? I thought that was just about having Jackson’s back, honestly.”
“No. I like seeing Jackson manage to get himself punched,” Danny shrugged. “That was about you, not him. I don’t like when people are mean to you.”
“You’re sometimes mean to me,” Stiles argued.
“Because you’re cute when you pout,” Danny grinned unapologetic.
Stiles blushed at that, gaping a little. The moment was ruined by Lydia screaming her head off in the woods. Danny and Stiles got up quickly just as Lydia and Jackson, both in states of undress, came running out of the woods. Stiles had the presence of mind to kick sand onto the fire until it was distinguished, while Lydia and Jackson caught their breath.
“Fuck, I think you might be right about that werewolf thing,” Jackson gasped. “There was a giant – thing. It was all deformed and furred and had red eyes. Fuck. It tried to eat us?!”
“House! Now!” Lydia yelled urgently. “We are spending the night in the locked wine cellar!”
“Romantic,” Stiles muttered, even as he turned back toward the woods.
There was something glowing red that had his breath hitch, but before he could follow his impulse to go out there and see for himself did his boyfriend grab his wrist and pull him toward the house. Right. Werewolves could wait, for now he had a new boyfriend. He turned toward Danny, who tucked Stiles into his side protectively. He pressed against Danny as the four hurried into the house. Maybe they could explore the woods together tomorrow.
