Work Text:
Addison’s day started out pretty much the same as usual. He got up, thought about Davis’s biceps, got dressed, ate food, went to the skydome etc.
On his way to the skydome however, he bumped into a random stranger who seemed to know him, because he was talking to him, and following him, much to his discomfort, who was this guy?? Alas, Addison the introverted sweetheart didn't have the guts to tell this stranger to shove off, so instead he just smiled and nodded until he gained enough courage to ask the stranger who he was.
“Ha-ha, very funny.”
Addison stared at him.
“Wait– you're being serious!? You really don't recognize me??”
Addison shook his head, the man facepalmed and muttered, “There. Is. No. Way.”
They were approaching the entrance to one of the gates, when the man stopped and stood in front of Addison, putting his hands on his shoulders. Addison wasn't a huge touchy-feely guy in the first place, and to have a random stranger putting his hands on his shoulders, he was definitely a little out of his comfort zone, yet, too nice to say anything.
“Addy, it's me.”
Addison blinked confusedly.
“Dude, it's me, Davis,”
Still nothing.
“Davis Schneider.”
Addison pauses for a second. Davis Schneider? Who does this guy think he is? He’s not Davis, he doesn't even have a mustache– wait.
“WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR FACE???” Was all Addison could say really.
“Uhh, what? I just shaved is all, s’not like I got a nose job or anything.”
Addison's jaw hung low, he can't believe that Davis shaved his mustache, what's wrong with him?
But now that he's staring at the outlines of Davis’s juicy biceps, he can't believe he didn't see it earlier. Holy cow. Mustache man shaved his mustache.
“Are you okay?” Davis asked him, to which he replied nearly instantly, “Are you okay? Your face is bald.”
“My face is bald?”
“Yes.”
“...”
Davis backwardly-stepped to the door and said awkwardly; “I will see you later then…”
???
Luckily, Addison wasn’t the only person who didn’t recognize Davis without his mustache, many of his teammates were wondering who the random stud in the clubhouse was.
~
The Jays were on a solid 6-game winning streak, and were about to go into a series vs the worst team in baseball by far.
Coincidentally, the morning of the first game, is when Davis had shaved his mustache.
They then lost the 1st game.
Aw man, no 7-game winning streak 😢.
Then they lost the 2nd game too.
Did we just lose a series against the worst team in baseball?? At least we’ll for sure win tomorrow, with Cease on the mound.
Nope.
They just got swept by the worst team in baseball.
~
After the game had ended, Addison had gone up to… Davis (?) wait, yes, it is Davis, even if he doesn’t have a mustache anymore. He’d pulled him aside to chat,
“Bro, you cursed us.”
Davis was dumbfounded, “Cursed? How?”
Addison was about to answer, when Davis made an “Oh” sound, “It’s the mustache, isn’t it?”
Addison did the Khaby Lame thing, and nodded.
“You’ve gotta get it back, dude, it’s been carrying our season.”
“I realize that now.” Davis said, trying to sound somewhat cool but failing miserably, “But how? We have a series against the Yankees starting tomorrow, and it’s still stubble. We need the full package deal or it won't work.”
“Wear a fake one, I do it all the time, whenever I’m role playing as you online.”
“I’m sorry, what.” A very highly raised eyebrow coming rightly so from Davis.
“Don’t worry about it.” Addison smiled, very concerningly, “Anyways, I’ve probably got some lying around my apartment.”
“Pause. Go back to the role play part?”
“I told you, don't worry about it;)”
~
They arrive at Addison’s apartment, grab the mustaches, and stand awkwardly in the bathroom, because there's only one mirror in the entire living space.
Davis is peeling one off, and trying to stick it to his face, whilst standing in front of the mirror, but it isn't working. Addison intervenes, he grabs Davis’s hands and;
“You're doing it wrong bro.”
“How do I do it?” It was more of a statement than a question, however that works.
“Like this,” Magically, somehow it worked. Idk I don't make the rules. Oh wait, I do, hahaha.
~
After the fake ‘stache was attached, the Jays went on a historical 36-game winning streak, nearly 12 series sweeps in a row. However, some people managed to notice how Davis’s mustache seemed to be inconsistent, which sparked heavy mustache-related rumours amongst the fans.
Now naturally, there was nothing actually wrong with his mustache, aside from being made of plastic. But alas, game 7 of the world series, Davis makes a beautiful diving catch, however.
He had gotten Addison to put on him a new fake mustache every day, until it was safe enough to go bare-faced.
Today was different, Addison didn’t have the time to do it, so it was up to Davis to put it on all by himself. Sure, he missed staring into Addison’s pretty puppy dog eyes while he stuck a fake mustache to his face, but he also missed not having to do it himself. Because for some odd reason he just couldn’t. Maybe someone up there just didn’t want him to be able to do this by himself so he’d have an excuse to stare at Addison every day without it being creepy.
Back to the present, a beautiful diving catch, but because Davis was the one who put the fake mustache on this morning, it was much less secure. And that diving catch? Ripped it right off.
The crowd gasped.
THE MUSTACHE WAS A FAKE!?
Davis wasn’t worried though, he was prepared. He knew something like this would happen if he was trusted with that task. So he stuck a piece of skin coloured tape to his face, on top of the nearly-grown mustache. He was going to take it off after they won the game, but it seems he’d have to a little early. He ripped off the tape, and behold, the real ‘stache is back.
He then went on to hit 3 homers, win mvp, confess to and make out with Addison.
The end.
