A letter in the right hands

Can change the course of history

Jacob had never been selfish before in his life. It wasn't in his nature. But the love of his life offering to leave Forks? For himWith him?

"You would do that for me?"

...

"I would do that for you."

"...Even if I told you that the thing I have, who I've changed into, it comes with us?"

"Jacob, I told you," Bella had closed the space between them again, and took his hand in hers, "I know who you are. Come on. Let's get out of here."

Mystic Falls was like Forks in many ways, and Bella's truck fit right in as it chugged into an open space in the parking lot of a worn in restaurant with the name "The Grille" flickering weakly above its double doors.

"How are you feeling now?" She asked as she killed the engine and turned to him, hopeful. Jacob had become so morose lately, that she was worried that she'd never see the sun of his smile again. She watched her best friend squint out into the peeking sunlight as it struck out in banners from behind the clouds to wash over his warm skin. She watches him take a deep breath and sigh until his mouth turned upward into a small smile.

"The best I've felt in a while, I won't lie to you, Bells," he said, nodding to reassure her. He, in turn, watched his hopeful smile jump across the way to her and pick up the corner of her lips as well, and she let out the softest breath of a laugh at the two of them.

"It's good to have you back, Black."

"It's good to be back, Swan," he grinned.

"I don't get it, you're reading people's diaries now?" Matt frowned as he sat a plate of fries down next to a tall coffee-flavoured milkshake, "I thought you were a witch, not a psychic?" Bonnie would have been thoroughly annoyed if it hadn't been her honorary brother asking her that, with his signature nose crinkle and puppy head-tilt to boot.

"I'm both," Bonnie told him gently, "I don't want this to be weird, Matt, but, I feel like I need to talk about it with someone normal."

"Ouch," Elena said half-jokingly. "I'm literally right here." Bonnie stuck her tongue out, amusing her friends.

"Yeah, I'm not gonna take offense to that on account of the sheer magnitude of my hot-ness puts me well outside of the category of 'normal'," Caroline said smugly, wiggling her brows at Bonnie over the rim of her soda.

"Whatever," Bonnie said laughing before she turned to Matt as he rolled up the edge of one of his sleeves that had started to droop down to his wrist, "I'm also not, like, spying, guys. I'm literally getting these images sent to me."

"No reading my mind, okay?" Matt said, stooping down to look her in the eye and point two fingers between the distance of their gaze at one another with a grin.

"What's there to read?" Bonnie mocked, enjoying the heckling that followed as Matt went to check in on the other tables in his section with a loud guffaw trailing back to them.

"Seriously, though, who did the letter belong to?" Elena asked after they'd died down.

"I don't know, actually. And it's like, I didn't read the letter, it was read to me. Like, the person's voice, you know?" Bonnie said with a small shrug, "I feel like voices are so recognisable, and I swear it's no one we know."

Yet, a voice said quietly from the back of Bonnie's mind.

"Or, no one at all," Caroline offered with an unapologetic pout before her eyes lifted up to the front doors of The Grille as they swung open, revealing a couple that the blonde had never seen before. Elena followed her gaze and narrowed her eyes a little.

"Should we eat here?" The voice of the guy cut across the ambient business of the dining area to their side of the building and the trio watched the girl nod her head, eyes scouring over the people gathered there, anxiously.

"He's cute," Caroline commented off-handedly, unconsciously twirling a finger through one of her curls. "Love the surfer-shoulders, very California."

"Can't be where they met, though," Elena mumbled, eyeing out the girl. "No offense."

"Jake, can we sit by the window?" The girl asked, and Bonnie's back went stiff and her spine felt a trickling cold edge it's way down to her coccyx.

"Sure, sure, Bells."

"Holy shit," Bonnie muttered. The other two openly watched Matt hand over menu's to the broad-shouldered surfer-boy, and his handsome smile as he thanked their friend and made his way over to the girl. "It's her."

"Don't say that like she's famous," Caroline sneered before her eyes turned back to Bonnie's face and the blonde yelped at her friend's suddenly all-white eyes. "What the shit, Bonnie?"

"It's her. I mean, it was her letter," Bonnie said, dropping her voice down to a hurried whisper as her eyes returned to their default settings, swatting away Caroline's extended hand with a pair of O-shaped sunglasses edging towards her face. "I'm okay. I'm still getting the hang of it."

"Yeah, no kidding," the blonde muttered, dropping the accessory back into her oversized designer bag. "So, what'd it say?"

"I don't think I should talk to anyone but her about it," Bonnie said, quirking her mouth to the side as her best friend's expressions gave her a few things to mull over before either of them began trying to talk her out of it.

"That's your plan? Mystic Falls Medium?" Caroline sighed, "Bonnie, this is so not a good look for you."

"I just don't know how you're even going to start that conversation, Bon ..." Elena said, being as gentle as she could with her disapproval.

"Is that what you told yourself when you promised Stefan that you'd keep his secret?"

"...What secret?" Caroline asked when Elena clamped her mouth shut, "Omigod what secret?!"

"Tell him that I know another one of his secrets, too," Bonnie said standing up. "I know you guys think that I'm insane already. You've both kind of been waiting for me to go off of the rails since Grams did. I love you, but that's not what this is, and it's not my fault it's happening to me ... and, if I were her, I'd wanna know."

Bella watched as a beautiful girl walked cautiously over to her and Jacob's booth, trying to smile.

"Hey, I'm Bonnie," the girl said, waving at Jacob before bringing her eyes back to Bella. "You guys aren't from around here, huh?"

"Just passing through," Jacob said easily. "Know of any decent beaches around here?"

"We mostly have lakes," Bonnie said with a shrug, "Matt would know better, I'll tell him to write down directions to the one he likes to drag us to."

"Thanks!"

"Yeah, no problem. I just, sorry, there's no like, normal, or cute way to say this ... Uh, I'm a psychic."

"A psychic?" Jacob's left brow curved into a suspicious arch.

"Yeah, I know. This is weird for me, too, but, I got a message about you, Bella. That's your name, right? Bella Swan? Isabella?"

"Y-yeah-yes," Bella stammered, brown eyes ballooning a little.

"This isn't a prank, I promise you," the green-eyed girl assured them both, "my friends did not want me to come over here and do this, trust me, I was sort of feeling the same way, but," she drew in a breath. "I would want to know, you know? If it were me?"

" ... Know what?" Bella asked after a long, tense moment. She knew that between her and Jacob there were about a thousand possibilities for what could come out of the girl's mouth next. The pack, Charlie and Billie, the Cullens, the Volturi—

"May I?" The girl asked, pointing to the end of the settee of the booth that Bella was sitting on. Bella looked to Jacob, who was already trying to gauge her expression, before she turned back to the girl, swallowed and nodded.
