Work Text:
Peter's been gone a while. Longer than usual. May hadn't thought much of it at first, her nephew's always coming and going, since he got those powers. But then she called Tony, and Tony said he hadn't seen him either.
She's sure he'll turn up eventually. If something was really wrong she would know by now, right? Tony ensured her he'd know the instant something happened, that he'd call her immediately.
May hears the door open. She's standing up from the couch immediately, walking toward the sound of shuffling in the foyer.
"May," Peter calls. "I need to—oh, you're here. Hi." He pulls his mask off, shooting May a grin. There's another person standing behind him. They look to be around his age, maybe a year or two younger. Their red hair is half-hidden under a hood. "Uhm, so, I might've made a pretty important decision without asking you, and—"
"Where have you been?" May asks, cutting him off.
"Patrol."
"For two days? Peter, I didn't know where you were. Tony didn't know where you were. I was worried sick."
"I‐I stayed at a friends. I'm sorry, I didnt mean to worry you." Peter shifts to the side, giving May a better look at the other person. "May, this is Jean."
"Hi, Jean." May smiles. "I'm sorry, my nephew's an idiot."
"Hey—"
"No. I'm still mad at you."
Peter pouts for a second, before shaking his head. "Anyways, uhm… can Jean, maybe, stay with us for a little while?" He asks, then mutters something underneath his breath.
"I'm sorry, say that again. i didn't quite catch it."
"I, uh, maybe, kinda, already told her she could…"
May blinks. Well, that's not exactly new. Peter has a habit of inviting people over without asking her. Stray cats, friends, Tony Stark.. She came home from work once, years ago, to find a pigeon in their living room. Peter had said they couldn't kick it out because he already promised it it can stay.
"Of course she can stay. She's sleeping in your room, though, you're not making her take the couch." May smiles as Peter sighs in relief. "Are you hungry, Jean?"
Jean opens her mouth to answer, then shuts it and nods instead.
"Okay! Great! How's pizza sound?"
"Yeah,"Peter replies, glancing at Jean. They stare at eachother for a moment before Peter says, "yeah, we'd like pizza."
"Perfect."
