Chapter Text
Morty was recharging batteries as Rick tried to find this archnemesis of his. Aka his biological Grandpa, he has to admit to himself and- he will never say this out loud, he knows better. He is curious about what his Grandpa is like. Not the Rick he’s with now although if he ever was forced to choose it would be him every time.
Prime never showed up, maybe it was because his Rick was there, maybe because he didn’t care about his family. He wouldn’t be surprised, he snuck back after borrowing Rick's portal gun during one of his… ‘drunk nights’. Morty is not stupid. He knows Prime was most likely in his dimension and most likely killed his dad.
He was killed by a gun but the hole was bigger than what would be made by a normal gun. Especially since the survivors he’s seen… rarely have guns or not at all and the bullets didn’t align with a shotgun and looked high tech. So it’s simple math's on his part. He’s a bit sad that he had to bury his dad in the backyard with his mum and sister’s grave.
“Welp, not the stealthiest technique, but if this guy doesn’t know I’m hunting him. He is not worth hunting.” Now that brought him back to the present, putting a smile on while putting another battery in to charge.
“I- It’s just good to see you outside the sub-basement, ev-even if if you never kill the version of yourself that killed your wife” Because… it’s true, he’s glad he is doing… something other than rotting down there and trying to keep people out… again.
“Giv- giving it your best shot, it looks good on you.” Because at least it’s something. At least he doesn’t have to completely play caretaker anymore, I- I mean, don’t get him wrong. He loves his Grandpa but man… He’s 14, he should be out doing normal kid stuff like Summer did when she was his age. Not be a caretaker to the Smartest Man in the Universe, he won’t admit that though. He loves the adventures but sometimes… he does crave not being hurt physically and emotionally.
“Thanks buddy, it means a lot to me that your bar for mental health has gotten lower than mine.” He types on the keyboard some sort of code to send the next Prime in and check if he is a clone. Again.
“A good wind stays under the wings, baby!” Because, that seems appropriate right? Gotta be the optimistic one out of the duo. At least he hopes it helps for one of them to be positive… He hopes it helps. Genuinely.
A new batch of decoy’s comes down and he is scanned before being quickly killed as Prime mocks Rick, Morty does notice something though. One looks at him instead, him rather than Rick. Makes him feel uneasy, why would he even look at him. Rick is the one he should look at, they don’t know each other.
“What the fuck are you doing?” a portal is heard opening and he hears his own voice, though it sounds a lot more tired and… jaded? If you can say that.
“Ah shit! Evil Morty, Should I Grab the Net!?” He doesn’t bother to look at other him, turning to Rick instead. A little out of panic knowing the guy who killed the citadel being here suddenly, why does the bastard even care what they are up to?
“Yes!” Morty immediately ran to the car. “Hang tight, Morty is getting…” He could no longer hear Rick. But he knows they will probably talk while Morty tries to find the stupid thing. Maybe they’ll talk about science stuff. Evil Morty clearly knows quite a bit about science.
He ran back to Rick, out of breath. Why is nothing there when he needs to grab it, this is a little embarrassing. “I can’t find the net- do we shoot him?”
“No point, no one that smug wouldn’t have a shield up.” He finished typing and a new Prime is dropped down.
“Listen to Pop-Pop Morty-” Rick shoots him, because of course he did and just as he said, there is a shield. Man, doesn’t he look different. The Pompous prick combed his hair and still has the dumb eyepatch, even wearing a yellow collared shirt with those buttons so you can get your head through and a jacket with a dumb neck brace looking collar. Detroit Connor looking rip-off.
“What? I would be an idiot if I didn’t check.” Then… he does it twice more.
“Mhm.” Evil Morty nods sarcastically. “Well I’m not going to back pedal every time I do it.” Rick suddenly rebuts.
“So what did you change?” Morty decides to ask, trying to break tension since he partially wants this over and done with already.
“He filtered through probability stasis” Evil Morty interjects smugly. Man, he gets on Morty’s nerves.
“You're still here? And are you teeing him?” Rick raises a brow at Morty as he looks back at Rick confused.
“What?” He asks, before changing the subject again. “So is this one our guy?”
“I don’t know, he’s different but it could be a trap still.” Rick shrugged and stared at him.
“I’ll explain, he’s worried it's your target and that he’d owe me credit for the kill.” Evil Morty interjects with the usual smugness, which honestly confirms to Morty is that the probability stasis was his idea.
“Are you serious right now? You little narcissist.” Rick starts, man Morty needs a raise at this point.
“Dude. Literal glass house.” Evil Morty argues back as Morty looks at Prime with a tired and honestly…? Done expression. Prime gives him a shrug and the ‘crazy right?’ signal.
“You think you're better than me!?” Morty gives him a sneaky but exasperated nod. At this point in time he agrees, they could be done by now.
“Jesus I hope so.” Evil Morty rolls his eyes at Rick as Prime gives the ‘one moment’ signal.
“Ahem, May I offer my two cents?” He looks at the other two.
“N-not helping!” He presses the button to make him shut up, or… well. Kill him.
“Morty no-” The blood swells and acts differently. “Well that's different.” before it breaks out of the glass. They try to portal out but it grabs them and closes the portals, dragging Rick and Evil Morty in but leaves… leaves Morty, Prime Morty to help with the differences. Leaving him, confused and panicking as he claws at the goop holding him in place, wow this is weird.
He hears a new portal open and someone slowly clapping as they make their way over.
“Original Grandson! Finally we meet in the flesh!”
