Pomni tried to speak, but she didn’t know what she wanted to say.
“Look, if you really don’t care, or you really do think it’s stupid, then I’ll let it go,” said Jax. “Just–you’ve got to let me do something for you. Something, just, completely insane. You’ve got to let me do too much. Because I need to. I–I just need–I–”
Pomni couldn’t take it. The desperation in her voice. Finally seeping out through the cracks that had been carefully, lovingly, painstakingly carved into her exterior. And the rough, splintered-open edge of long-held resentment and built-up bitterness that Pomni wanted to reach out and touch–
“I want to get mind-fucked.”
Pomni clapped a hand over her mouth.
