She could have told him. Susan buying the jackets. Susan insisting that the path would be full of attractive cardiologists, fit finance guys, athletets from New York's sports teams who preferred fresh air to the gym's, and emotionally available men with excellent lung capacity. Susan standing in the entryway at six in the morning, looking at Abby’s running belt and saying, with absolute seriousness, "The real sport is getting ready. We’ve done the sport."
It would require too much context. Luka might understand the words, but Susan had been the part that made them funny.
