Coffee addict

Summary:

An odd looking rabbit shows up at the registration desk. Intern thinks nothing of it, but the more time he shows up, the more he knows about him. In the end it might not be a good thing.

Notes:

Helloo, this is my first time writing a fan fiction, let alone posting one so if it’s not good then that’s on me. The reason i made this Intern x Barney is because i haven’t seen enough lowkey and i need more. Also English isn’t my first language so i’m sorry if the writing is shit. Enjoy

Chapter 1: Delicious stolen coffee

Chapter Text

“Thanks, i will be in room 2.” the patient responded, as the night was only getting quieter.

Today wasn’t a busy night thankfully, not for Intern at least. He was getting tired but he knew he couldn’t stop working.

As his sanity was going down due to job stress, (and other strange things..) he decided to make himself a coffee. He walked up to the coffee machine and patiently waited for it to brew.

However, before he could grab his nice warm coffee, there was a ring at the registration.

Great. Now?

Of course Intern’s first thoughts were that it was another patient, so he left his coffee for what he thought was going to be a minute, just to quickly check in this bothersome animal.

He went back to his desk, but to his surprise when he looked up, it was a new patient he hadn’t seen before. It was a tall white rabbit, whom had a comfortable looking hat and a big warm jacket to match with it. He looked almost intimidating. Not to mention you couldn’t really see his face with his moustache covering half of it. Alas, Intern pressed down all scary thoughts he had of this man and continued his job, just like he normally would.

Since Intern couldn’t actually speak, (weather it was from his past or maybe he was born mute) he waited for the rabbit to say he wanted to register as a patient and or visitor.

“Hey, friend. May i please have a cup of coffee?”

Now that was a request he wasn’t expecting. A cup of coffee? Did this rabbit think this was a coffee shop? He couldn’t just possibly give him a coffee for free, considering he just made one for himself and didn’t want to wait 2 more minutes for another one. He still needed to treat the remaining patients as well, because for some damn reason, he is the only one actually working.

“Friend? You okay?” Is what the rabbit asked. Intern looked back quickly at the animal in front of him, snapping him back into reality.

He glanced at the coffee machine where the nice, delicious coffee was sitting at, and back at the rabbit who was waiting for said coffee.

In his final decision, Intern decided that it was best not to pick a fight with other animals, especially not ones who looked like they would murder someone for a cup of coffee. Although, Intern might not be far from that himself.

Either way, he nodded to the rabbit and went to go grab his coffee, even though it should have been HIS, but that’s besides the point.

As he grabbed the cup, he quietly brought it up to his face and took a big sniff, mourning what could have been his by now.

Intern came back at the registration and gently put the coffee in front of the tall rabbit. He took it and started drinking it, and god would he be lying if he said that he wished it wasn’t him.

“Mmm, this is delicious, thank you friend! My name’s Barney, by the way.” he said, as he smiled warmly at Intern. “You seem overworked. What’s your name?”

Intern ignored the statement, because even he was very self aware of how he looked.

Focusing on the question at hand, even if he wanted to say what his name was, he couldn’t for obvious reasons. He looked down awkwardly, because he didn’t know what to do. He wasn’t even sure when the last time was when someone asked him for his name. The way everyone knows it is because Dr. Harlow introduced him to the whole staff, stating his name in the process. So being actually asked what it is, is definitely fresh.

Barney started at him for a moment, rather confused, until he asked “Is everything alright? You do have a name, no?”

God, he felt even more awkward.

Intern quickly nodded, but he pointed at his mouth and shook his head afterwards, signifying that he can’t talk.

“Ahh, you can’t speak, can you? My apologies for putting you on the spot then.” he said, somehow looking softer. “But no worries, I don’t need to know your name, not right now at least. As long as you’re here the next time i come around, because this won’t be the last time i ask for you’re amazing coffee.” he smiled at him, although you couldn’t really tell if he was smiling, since his moustache was in the way. “Goodbye, friend! Until next time.”

Barney started walking away with his coffee and Intern quietly waved back at him, even though he probably didn’t see that.

What on earth just happened.

Before he even had the time to process the whole conversation, Intern realised that he needed to catch up on the patients who are waiting for some kind of nurse to show up.

While walking into one of the rooms, he started questioning who that man was. It’s almost like he has heard of him before..

Barney..wasn’t that the name of a wanted criminal?

Nevermind that, he’s probably just overthinking, work is getting to him after all.

If this guy was a criminal, he probably wouldn’t spare Intern like that, or even be so calm in the first place, knowing he’s being searched for by the police.

Sigh. He needed to get this guy away from his head, it’s nothing after all, just an odd looking guy, asking the hospital for a coffee.

He does wonder if he will actually come back next time, like he said he would. Interesting. Only time will tell.
