Work Text:
“This is one of the worst muggings I have ever been a part of!” Came an angry voice from the alleyway below. Followed by a series of loud, metallic clanging sounds.
Nejire was intrigued. She was naturally curious, but it was rare to find someone who reacted like a mugging was a minor inconvenience. Not unless they were a pro, a villain, or someone who ran in those circles.
Alighting on the rooftop above where the commotion was coming from, she peered down at the cluster of figures below.
One was getting to his feet, unsteadily, most likely having been knocked down by the second figure. Who was currently beating a metal trashcan lid over the head of a third figure, who looked like he was already unconscious.
“I swear, today of all days!” The second figure grumbled, dropping the person he had been bludgeoning, before knocking the first guy over again. By throwing the trashcan lid at him like a frisbee. “I just wanted a peaceful day, but no, you had to try and mug me like the idiots you are!”
Nejire was even more curious now. That throw wasn’t exactly normal, it was either quirk related, or practiced a ton.
Though with the way the guy was kicking the downed figure, she should probably step in.
So she fired off a blast of energy as she floated down into the alley.
The third would be mugger, who had been semi camouflaged on the opposite wall the whole time, took the attack head on. Not even seeing it before he slumped to the floor unconscious.
The would-be victim looked around in confusion, before turning in surprise when she landed.
“Nejire Chan!” He exclaimed in shock, before a notebook was produced out of seemingly nowhere. “Can I get your autograph?”
Huh, she wasn’t used to someone who could match her energy like this. So she signed the offered page, which included some nice artwork of her.
“Oooo, could I get a pic of that, you made me look badass!”
“Erm, sure, it’s nothing special though…”
“It is to me!” Her phone tucked away again as soon as she had the photo. “Now, what was going on here? Quirk use is allowed in self defence, but you might have been a little overzealous with the guy you hit in the head.”
“I’m quirkless, defending myself from muggers, so it’s fine.” The man sighed, pulling out his ID and handing it over. Nejire was shocked, it confirmed he was indeed quirkless.
“Oh, then that’s all sorted, I’ll call the police and get these guys taken away. How do you know how to do…” She gestured at the alleyway. “How to do that?”
“Oh it’s part of my job.”
“Oooo, what do you do?”
“Quirk analyst." The guy looked like he was expecting something, with the way he tensed.
“Oooo, so….” What followed was a typical Nejire bombardment of questions at high speeds. When the man kept up, she was amazed, and so very giddy. She had a reputation for being an airhead, really she was smart, just very, very easily distracted.
“No one else keeps up with me, we’re friends now!” She declared. “Erm, what’s your name?”
The man chuckled, holding out a hand for her to shake. “I’m Izuku Midoriya, nice to meet you Nejire.”
“So you’re physically fine, but what about mentally?”
“About as well as normal?”
“Nope, you need ice cream.”
“....you want ice cream don’t you.”
“As emotional support for your ice cream! I know a place, let’s go!” She giggled, dragging Midoriya down the street, who just seemed to have accepted his fate at this stage.
********
The chat they had over ice cream had led Nejire to trying out some new things with her quirk. When she found out a compressed energy wave wrapped around her hand gave her literal explosive punches capable of demolishing walls, her manic laughter echoed throughout her agency.
Her two best friends, at agencies of their own, suddenly felt afraid for their lives, but couldn’t work out why.
********
Midoriya became a regular feature in her life after that. He didn’t complain, but he had raised an eyebrow the first time she had visited him at work. As well as left his entire office freaking out about how one of the top ten heroes was visiting him.
That had gotten a tired groan out of him, while she had laughed at the chaos she brought into his life.
It wasn’t just at work either, Midoriya didn’t seem to have much of a social life, so quickly accepted that he, as an introvert, was being adopted by an extrovert, Nejire. Both Togata and Amajiki were bemused when she started turning up to their meetings dragging Midoriya behind her.
They hung out with just the two of them a lot as well, Midoriya seeming to come out of his shell, at least around her. After a few months, until then he seemed oddly skittish.
Which hadn’t been helped by Yuyu Haya teasing the poor guy when they’d first met. Especially after he’d asked for her signature. His collection of hero signatures really had grown rapidly from hanging around her.
It had been close to a year since they had accidentally met in that alleyway, and he was firmly entrenched in her life. Much as he half heartily grumbled about it, he did smile a lot more now.
Then she realised something.
It had been a warm day, Izuku was hanging around in her office going over some evaluations for her interns, when she noticed something different. He usually went for loose fitting clothes, but today was in shorts and a t-shirt, which showed more of his body than she was used to seeing.
And she liked what she saw.
It made her think back on what Yuyu had told her about being attracted to someone. You seek out their company, laugh at their jokes, don’t find them boring, and like their butt.
So she decided to try something out.
“Hey, Izuku?” He turned at the sound of his name, still getting used to hearing someone other than his mother call him that, when he fell over splutters.
Nejire’s hero costume was fairly skin tight, so when she bent over the desk, smirking at him, her ass was on full display. His reaction was promising.
“Nejire, what…”
“You like what you see?”
“...I … yes…”
“Good, I like what I see too. We’re going to a theme park this weekend, dress comfy!”
“...are you asking me out on a date?”
“Asking does imply you have a choice…”
“Do I?” He looked hesitant at that, so she gently took his hand in hers and rubbed his knuckles with her thumb.
“Yep, you don’t have to go out with me Izuku, but I’d like to see where it goes.”
“...well I can’t argue with that, pick you up around ten?”
“Sounds like a date!”
“...you just asked me out on one?”
“Exactly?” She bounded out of the room, leaving a very confused Izuku behind her, already planning what she was going to wear.
********
Their first date had gone amazingly, neither could stop smiling. Though Nejire did have to stop taking Izuku on the larger rollercoasters, when it was clearly a bit too much for him.
They had several more dates in quick succession. Nothing extravagant, dinner dates, walks in the woods, crazy golf, things like that.
Her theory had been confirmed after one of those dates, when Izuku had been very reluctant to let go of her ass after grabbing hold while they were kissing on her sofa.
He had been very open from the get go that he had little dating experience, was surprised when she admitted she didn’t have massive amounts, nothing that lasted more than a few months.
Their first kiss had been messy, but a memory they laughed about fondly. As with many of their other firsts.
After a couple of months of dating, he had admitted his insecurities, how he had been treated in the past, and how he knew he shouldn’t, but still worried he might wake up from the most amazing dream he had ever had.
She needed an early night before a week-long deployment, she mostly wanted kisses and cuddles before she left, but when he was dropping her off, she unzipped his pants, made sure he was ok with it, then bent down and slid her lips around his already hard length.
He was a lot more confident in himself, and their relationship, after he melted in her mouth. The way he had gripped her hair, the strangled moan as he cried her name, the wonderment he looked at her with as she cleaned up afterwards, all made her feel so desired.
When she had made it back from her mission, he had returned the favour. Though he had needed some pointers, as they laid on her bed, legs wrapped around his head. He was a quick study and an enthusiastic lover though.
None of her friends had been surprised when they decided to make it official, if anything they wondered why the pair had waited so long.
A few more weeks after that, she had invited him around for dinner, wearing a blue dress that hugged her curves. Dinner had done perfectly, Izuku had been staring and blushing all evening.
When she had let the dress fall to the floor, revealing the lingerie beneath, well it was a surprise they made it to the bedroom that night, with how much Izuku had been all over her.
Once she had made it very clear, after riding him until he screamed her name, that she very much wanted this, he became much more confident about initiating intimacy with her.
Which led to them spending a lot of time in bed over the coming months. As well as on most of her furniture for that matter. Oh and the walls, floor, even the ceiling after one experimental night with her quirk.
If she hadn’t accidentally blasted a hole in the roof when orgasming and trying to maintain her hovering, they’d definitely have done more of that. She lived above her agency, in a decent sized apartment, but explaining to her property manager what had caused the hole had been awkward.
Especially when her sidekicks had caught her trying to sneak Izuku out the backdoor.
They knew about their boss’ relationship, Izuku hung around the office too much for them not to know, but they had teased Nejire about the implications of what had caused the hole for weeks.
********
They had known each other for over two years, dating for most of that time, when Nejire proposed he moved in with her. She had the space, his place being a bit cramped with both of them there, plus he was spending most nights at hers by that point anyway.
It had been a bit of a shock for Izuku when he realised most of his stuff was already at her place, making it more official than any real change.
He was renting on a month to month contract, so it hadn’t been much of an issue for him to end that and move what little he had left to her place.
The teasing from the sidekicks had only gotten worse when they found that out, giggling as Nejire pouted at them, until Izuku distracted her with food and head pats.
The meeting of parents had been interesting. Nejire’s had been initially uncertain, but had quickly warmed up to Izuku when they realised he knew how to keep her focused and limit her bad habit of getting distracted.
Inko had nearly flooded the place when she had met Nejire, so pleased her son had found such a wonderful girlfriend.
Things were going well, she felt cared for and loved. Their shared space was a chaotic affair, but it had both of them written all over it. Her friends thought he was good for her, and Izuku’s only real close friend was surprisingly a hero she knew, but he approved of her as well.
Though Hitoshi Shinso being friends with Izuku had been a shock. When they explained they had met online, Izuku offered advice on Shinso’s quirk and training, encouraging him through U.A. They had remained friends after that, in a rare case of introverts uniting together.
Really, she probably should have seen the big revelation coming.
********
“Hmm, Izu, we need to get up…” She really didn’t want to, they were curled up in bed together, Izuku’s lips on her neck, too warm and comfortable to get frisky, but also enough that getting up seemed like the ultimate hardship.
Their fourth anniversary had been last week, waking up like this had become a blissful norm.
But they both had work, so eventually, after some grumbling, they got up. Izuku took care of breakfast while she showered. He took his turn while she ate, Nejire heading for the bedroom and getting dressed while he devoured the remains of his breakfast.
Giving him a parting kiss as she headed down to her agency, she giggled as he slapped her ass on the way past. She might have used her hero costume to get his attention as a whim, but he did like seeing her in it.
Liked it enough they’d made a rule to not have sex outside the apartment, after getting carried away in her office one time, nearly getting caught as they were getting dressed afterwards.
It had, however, cemented her costume, or other skin tight outfits, as the quickest way to get Izuku in the mood.
Nejire shook her head to clear it of horny thoughts, she had a job to do, Izuku would still be there in the evening.
*********
It had been an annoyingly busy day, there were a series of attacks around the city, stretching the heroes thin, before one massive attack on a government building. The news went out on the hero network that the vigilante known as Gremlin, who hadn’t been seen since the days of the war, had stepped in to assist the heroes against the main attack.
He had however been injured and captured at that point, vigilantes still being technically illegal, even now.
When his identity was leaked over the hero net, Nejire’s phone exploded in her hand.
********
Gremlin, an infamous vigilante, who had emerged at the height of the war against the Paranormal Liberation Front, helping string together groups of civilians, vigilantes and heroes into a semi working resistance.
He had provided advice on how to take down the attackers with the stronger quirks, coordinate the scattered forces, and even on occasion took to the battlefield himself. Mostly with strange gadgets he has produced from somewhere, sowing chaos in the enemy ranks before retreating with those he came to rescue.
There had been no confirmed death, but with him vanishing after the end of the war, and the rebuilding efforts taking priority, it was assumed he had either died, or retired. After several years without any sight or sound from Gremlin, he had been marked down as a footnote in the war and most people had forgotten about him.
That was until today, when he was forced to take action when villains had launched a massive attack against the city, and he was unable to stand by with people in the crossfire.
It was a real shame he was out of practice and had ended up injured in that same crossfire. At least the HPSC had healed him up after grabbing him.
“I haven’t broken any laws…” Izuku groaned, glaring at the man sitting across the desk from him.
“While that’s true, we still can’t have you rushing into situations like that. It’s not the war anymore, you seem to be a little rusty.” Hawks, president of the HPSC, grinned back at him.
“...I couldn’t stand by and let it happen.” Izuku muttered, choosing to stare out the window, ignoring the two guards standing behind him.
“Be that as it may be, while we have solved one of the remaining mysteries from the war, we still need to work out what to do with you. Though the heroes have been rather keen to recruit you since your name hit the network.”
Izuku froze at that, slowly turning to look at Hawks.
“What do you mean my name hit the network, everyone knows who Gremlin is?” Hawks looked at him in confusion, unsure why that was the thing that panicked him.
“Yeah, it was pretty big news.”
“...how long since it leaked?”
Hawks pulled his phone out, checking the time. “About half an hour ago, why?”
“Shesgonnakillmeshesgonnakillemeshesgonnakillme…”
“Who is? Your mum seemed annoyed when we spoke to her, but…” He waved the guards off when Izuku slammed his palms down on the desk.
“Do they know I’m here?”
“Anyone on the hero network knows you were brought here, who are you this afraid of?”
The windows rattled as a sonic boom echoed across the sky, Izuku slumping in his seat.
“Too late, she’s already here…”
********
Izuku hadn’t intended for things to work out the way they did. When he first got approached by Nejire, he thought the government had worked out who he was and that this was a honey trap.
After nothing happened for weeks, he started to lower his guard, then the things she started doing to him, and encouraged to do to her, well no one would do them unless willing.
That night, where she had invited him for dinner, and seduced him for good, had been where he had put aside all thoughts of her betraying him. He was long retired as Gremlin, having only operated for a few months in a fight for survival, but it was about the only thing he hadn’t told her about himself, or his past.
Though he did regret telling her about Bakugo, after she used a ‘friendly’ sparring match as an excuse to blast him through a wall.
It’s not that she had a bad attitude towards vigilantes either, she even wanted to help them, but he had always skirted around the topic. Maintaining that kind of life wasn’t for him.
If there was one sure fire way to piss Nejire off, it was to lie to her, and now that his secret was out, Izuku feared for his life.
Especially after last week.
********
Everyone in the room looked in surprise when Hawk’s phone rang. He hesitated, before answering it. After listening for maybe half a minute, he agreed to whatever was asked of him, before placing the handset down again.
“Well, this should be interesting. Though you guys might want to stand aside for this.” The last part directed at the guards, who shared a look, before shuffling over to the far wall.
“What have you done…” Izuku looked at Hawks in fear, the older man grinning back at him, while they waited for the on coming storm.
Less than a minute later, Izuku yelped and leapt out of his seat as the doors to Hawk’s office slammed open.
“Izuku Midoriya, you have some explaining to do!” Nejire stood in the doorway, a confused secretary behind her, maintaining her distance.
Izuku couldn’t blame the woman, Nejire was so angry he could see the energy of her quirk fluctuating around her.
“Hey honey, look it’s not as bad as it looks…” He was peaking over the top of the chair, ignoring the cackles of Hawks behind him, trying to placate his enraged fiance.
Because of all the times for him to get outed as Gremlin, it would have to be the week after he proposed to her. She had said yes as well.
“Don’t you hey honey me, when were you going to mention this?” She was floating above him now, while Izuku tried to sink through his seat. The floor as well, though it wouldn’t be enough space.
“I take it you two know each other then?” Hawks interjected, smiling as the couple whipped around to face him.
“This is my fiance, Nejire, assuming I survive the next ten minutes.” Izuku groaned.
“Yes, this idiot is my fiance. Now, what’s he being charged with?”
“Well as he is quirkless, we can’t exactly charge him with being a vigilante, but he will need some protection. There’s still Meta Liberation members out there who might want to take a shot at him. It might be best for all involved if Midoriya here was remanded into protective custody.” Hawks pulled out some forms. “We were just trying to work out what best to do with him, when you burst in.”
“Place him in my custody.” No hesitation, Nejire just said it aloud. When Izuku tried to speak up, her finger was swiftly pressed against his lips, silencing him.
“I don’t know, he will be confined to your agency for the next few weeks at least. Could you manage that?”
“We already live together. He will be sleeping on the couch for some time, but him staying with me won’t be a problem.”
“Well there is the matter of what he wants?”
“If he knows what is good for him, he will agree.” Hawks glanced at Izuku, who gave him a very panicked nod.
“Well seems like punishment and protection, perfect! If you will just sign here, and here, and here…”
Hawks gave them a cheery wave, as a defeated Izuku was dragged out of his office by the scruff of his neck.
Hawks checked they were well clear of the building, before he burst out laughing.
“Should you have let them go that easily, boss?” One of the guards asked, after Hawks had recovered his composure.
“Ah he was never going to get charged with anything, he technically didn’t engage with any direct fighting, but that turned out so much better than I ever expected”
********
In the end, Izuku was banished to the couch for three nights, before a combination of Nejire’s favourite snacks, massages, and her missing her Izu teddy bear, allowed him back into their bed again.
She was more annoyed that he hadn't mentioned the part of his life where he was a war hero, or one of Japan's more notorious vigilantes, but had accepted his explanation about that being something he wanted to leave behind.
His already notorious reputation with her agency staff was only enhanced, but in the end, Nejire was confused when he had queried about the engagement.
“You’re an idiot, but you’re my idiot!” She had declared happily. “You owe me unlimited massages though.”
“Yes dear.” She had almost purred when he kissed her after that.
Life was good, and it looked like things would stay that way, despite Izuku’s secret.
Apart from Nejire having to punch Bakugo through another wall, when the explosive hero found out about Izuku’s time as Gremlin and tried to burst into the agency to get answers.
Izuku's house arrest could have ended shortly after that, word on the street that no villain wanted to seek out an angry Nejire Chan. Except someone had bribed Hawks with KFC to keep Izuku there for a bit longer.
Not that Izuku would complain, if he ever found out why Nejire had so many KFC deliveries on her food delivery history.
