Work Text:

Ryusei only like Megumi as a friend.

Ryusei only likes girls.

Ryusei is a liar.

It had taken all their courage to write a love letter. Actually putting it in his locker was ever harder than that. Ryusei spent 20 minutes in front of Fushiguro's locker, the letter tight in his grip.

'Just do it you idiot!' They thought to themselves as they shoved the letter into the locker. They regretted that immediately. 'Why did I do that?! I can't open the locker! Shit-shit- shit-' they tried to pry the locker open but it wouldn't budge.

"What are you doing?" Ryusei nearly jumped out of their skin at the familiar voice beside them.

"Uh-... oh! Hey Megumi I was just uh..." They just realised how sketchy they looked trying to unlock a locker that didn't belong to them.

'Damnit think-'

"That's my locker." Fushiguro stated. Crossing his arms.

"Oh- really? I didn't notice." Fushiguro rolled his eyes as he pulled out his key from his pocket.

"You could have just asked if you needed somethi-" his words were cut short as he opened his locker and a white envelope landed on the ground.

Ryusei tensed as heat rose to their cheeks.

"Hm?" Fushiguro carefully picked up the love letter and turned it over in his hand.

Every second in silence made Ryusei want to run. To hide from the absolute humiliation that he was about to experience.

"Someone must have put this in the wrong locker."

"Huh?"

Fushiguro blinked.

Ryusei stared at him with wide eyes.

"But it has your name on it."

"Does it?" Fushiguro flipped the letter over in his hand. That was definitely his name, written in fancy cursive with a cheesy love heart next to it.

"So, uh... are you going to open it?" Ryusei hoped they sounded less nervous then they felt.

"Later." Was all Fushiguro said before putting the letter in his bag. This did little to calm Ryusei's nerves.

'At least you won't have to face rejection at 8:40 in the morning'

"Hey." Fushiguro's voice snapped Ryusei out of their thoughts "We'll be late for class if we don't hurry up."

"Oh-... right."

First class of the day was literature. The teacher usually wouldn't be there for the next 10 minutes so they had enough time to chat with their friends Yuuji and Nobara. But today was different, they couldn't focus on what their friends were talking about. This didn't go noticed by Nobara.

"Hey, Ryu is something wrong? You haven't stopped fidgeting since you sat down."

'Shit they caught me' they dropped their pen and leaned back in their chair. Trying, and failing to look unbothered.

"I don't know what you're talking about." They mumbled. Looking anywhere but their friends eyes.

"Don't lie. I can tell somethings bothering you so just spill." She crossed her arms and stood over Ryusei so they couldn't help but meet her judging gaze.

"Ugh! Fine..." They sighed, resting their chin on one hand. "I have a question. Would you say love letters are a dumb idea?"

Silence.

Nobara and Yujji looked stunned.

"What?! You wrote a love lette-"

"SHUT UP SHUT UP OH MY GOD-" Ryusei clamped two hands over Nobara's mouth in a panic. Nobara smirked as she licked one of Ryusei's hands and giggled at their disgusted look. "I hate you." They sighed as they leaned back on their desk, wiping their hand on their uniform. People looked over like the three of them were crazy.

"Wait, I'm lost. What's all this about love letters?" Yuuji raised one brow.

"Says the guy who constantly receives them."

"Hey! It's not my fault I'm popular." It was true, Yuuji was tall, funny, and a total sweetheart. It was a no-brainer that he'd be popular with girls.

"So~ who's the unlucky lady?" Nobara snickered. Ryusei blushed faintly.

"Rude. And also non of your business."

"C'mon! You can't just leave me hanging like that" Yuuji nodded in agreement.

Ryusei loved his friends. But they couldn't tell them. It was bad enough having a stupid crush, but to have that crush be your best friend? It could ruin them.

"My lips are sealed." Ryusei's stated, making a zipping motion over their mouth to emphasise their point.

Nobara sighed and looked at Yuuji, who in tern gave her a skeptical look. Ryusei was the type of person that if you pushed hard enough they would tell you anything.

"Fine... and to wether I think love letters are dumb?" She looked up at the ceiling for a moment "I'd say they're pretty dumb."

"...And what if- hypothetically...I already gave them the letter?"a heavy silence followed.

"I'm sure it's not that bad-" Yuuji tried only to be interrupted by Nobara.

"You are an idiot, you know that?"

"Alright class! Sorry for the wait~" Ryusei's head snapped up as Gojo sensei strutted in.

"We're finishing this conversation after class." Nobara whispered in Ryusei's ear as she sat down at her desk.

Ryusei's nerves didn't let up for the whole lesson. All they could think about was the inevitable, soul-crushing rejection.

'God, Gojo sensei is really annoying' they thought to themselves as they took notes.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~After Class ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Fushiguro, what's your opinion on love letters?" Nobara said inbetween bites. Ryusei nearly chocked on their tuna sandwich.
"Kugisaki-"
"Huh? What brought this on?"
Nobara sent a smug look towards Ryusei.
"Oh, nothing. I just wanted your opinion on them." She spoke innocently. Fushiguro hummer as he took another bite of his food.
"Oh, that reminds me..." he fished through his backpack, pulling out the envelope and setting it down on the table like evidence from a crime scene.
"Where did you get this?!" Nobara dropped her sandwich in shock and slammed her hands on the table.
"Wha-! Fushiguro you got a love letter?!" Itadori poked Fushiguro's arm with a smirk "you sly dog."
"Found it this morning haven't opened it yet."
"How come you're so calm about this?!" Nobara's yelling was only met with a shrug from fushiguro as he took another bite of his food.
Ryusei had completely checked out at this point. Feeling sick to their stomach at the thought of what was to come.
"Ryu! Come on have a look!" Nobara looked over at Ryusei expectantly.
"Uh... I'm not really interested-" their words were cut short when Itadori pulled them out of their seat and peered over the letter.
Nobara waited no longer to rip the letter open, setting ot down on the lunch table for them all to read.
Ryusei felt dizzy with each line they read. The chatter from other tables fazed out as they waited for it. Each second of silence was agonising, like a iron wire was being tightened around their heart.
"Damnit," nobara looked disappointed "they didn't put their name."
Huh?
Ryusei looked at the bottom of the page. And to their astonishment, no name. Had they gotten so wrapped up in their nerves that they forgot to address it?
A weak "Oh." Was all they could muster at this point.
"Come on! What's even the point in giving a letter if your not gonna sign it?!" Itadori huffed. Both Nobara and him were visible dussapointed as they slumped back into their seats.
"Fushiguro, who you think it was?" Itadori turned to him, waiting expectantly.
"...I... don't really care" Fushiguro sounded as unbothered as ever, but his body language told a different story. His shoulders were tense, eyes averted, brows knitted together like he was trying to figure something out.
"Megumi... wouldn't you want to atleast try to find out?" Ryusei's voice was just barely loud enough to hear. Their hand was tightly wrapped around their necklace, tracing it's edges as a way to soothe their nerves.
"I..." Fushiguro sighed "I don't like mysteries."
Notes:
Hope I characterised Nobara and Yuuji right! They seem like they would totally be best friends if they were in a normal high-school and not constantly dying.
Also this took forever to write, so I hope you enjoy the sillies! Can't wait to post more chapters.
Lots of love<3333
