Work Text:
A dark black hallway, platted with golden walls, and a lofty throne at the very top of it. In the middle of the hall stood a wither skeleton with a royal attire and an askewed crown, seemingly waiting for somethings presence, someones presence. A worried look etched on his face, his stoic mask standing still and unbothered, his mannerisms the same as the usual. The area seemed way to dark, which did raise suspicions to the skeleton.
“Now where in the world am I...?”
Grox, the individual in question, stammered out quietly as he observed every corner of the place.
“Or that stupid frog too…”
Of course he was talking about his, totally just acquaintance, FroggyDude. He promised himself that despite how violent that dude was with him at the start, with chasing him around and everything, he was still wary of keeping him by his side in the kingdom, even if Froggy showed obvious improvement in behavior.
Still, one must always stay cautious. He used to be a rabid dog who was all over him like 3 months ago, in a literal sense. But, he gave him a habitat himself, it's not like Froggy had anywhere else to be if he NEEDED to change. Let's not forget he still stayed a chaotic good.
Anyways, back on the weird atmosphere, Grox was… puzzled to say the least. He sighted in frustration and decided to just walk through the exit, if he could even see it at this point.
“If this is him fucking around with me again I swear to God I'll end rod torture his ass.”
It's like he heard him, because the moment Grox uttered that ridiculous threat, a group of voices was heard. He SPRINTED to where it was coming from, and there he was, face to face with his friends Evbo, Seawatt and ACookieGod… killing Froggy in front of his eyes.
Frozen? No. Grox was A GREEK STATUE when he saw this chaos unfurl before he could even grasp the thought of it. Seawatt's sword pressed against Froggy's chin.
“WHAT ARE YOU DOING YO?”
Grox whipped his sword out immediately in defense of his friend he denied to claim as one.
“Sorry Grox, but we have a job to finish… we're here to avenge him, we swear we're not here for your kingdom, nor it’s riches.”
Evbo began simply and calmly explaining like this was an everyday thing. Froggy shivered slightly, definitely cowered with anticipation.
“Ayo chilllll, he counts as one of those riches too!”
Wait WHAT?
The gang in front of the skeleton, along with the frog individual pressed against the ground, we're definitely not expecting that. Froggy could've sworn he felt something in his stomach drop when he heard that sentence, but not in a necessarily bad way. He was pleasantly surprised. Grox considered him as “one of those riches”? As in an actual important persona in his kingdom, and importantly, his life alone? And here Froggy though Grox didn't even care!
Unfortunately, his sweet delusions were soon debunked by Grox himself.
“Well, obviously, all the villagers here, including the non-villagers, are my riches. I need them to assist and serve me, duh.”
He managed to greatly clutch himself. ACookieGod snorted at this stupidly sappy confession.
“Then we hope the king doesn't mind if the possession gets a tiny scratch.”
Cookie suddenly drew the sword across his leg in a silent attempt to still break the group's promise they set and execute Froggy on the spot. Evbo and Seawatt managed to pull him away before a serious injury could've escalated. Luckily, it only managed to slightly cut a wound in his left leg. Froggy gasped sharply in fear.
“Dude, calm it down! We're not here to take nor harm his possessions!”
Seawatt exclaimed.
“Motherfucker we are here to KILL him.”
Cookie immediately retorted.
“But we cannot break the promise, man. Grox will hold it accountable against us and literally
wipe us out if he wants!”
Evbo was right. The risks were to big. Grox couldn't help but giggle to himself.
“Really? You came to kill the guy who did you wrong in MY area, and you thought I'D let it slide? You guys come straight from a damn cartoon”
Froggy stiffened a small snicker at that. Since Grox seemed to set them on fire with that statement, they ran off and surrendered, probably more alerted whether they made him angry or not, but Grox couldn't give less of a fuck honestly.
He was more happy with the fact that Froggy was alive, but he couldn't quite promise himself that he was feeling well.
“Bro, I always tell you: the kingdom is dangerous outside at night. And you STILL run around like a child.”
He knelt down to inspect the wound carefully.
“Bro you're not Mother Gothel, let me live!”
“Look what “letting you live” got you into!”
Grox intervened. Froggy hated how he wasn't wrong. He always alarmed him about the dangers late at night that hid within such a huge royal expanse, but some people, rather frogs, never learn.
“And now I'm gonna have to play the role of a caretaker, how great.”
Without an announcement, Grox picked Froggy up in a bridal care, holding him close, but surprisingly gentle against him, the wind picking up and swaying his long cape and their hairs around quite rapidly.
“N-Nobody says you gotta do that!”
Froggy's shorter figure gripped onto his collar, overly embarrassed. Lucky for him that nobody was around.
“Yea, you're right, I should've just left you to bleed out like a soldier at my entrance.”
Grox sarcastically mused, shaking his head in disbelief. Froggy groaned in annoyance.
Soon enough, he was settled in GROX'S bed, nestled in HIS blanket, getting tended to by HIS hands. Even if Grox was always viewed as violent and cocky, his touch was so light and careful with Froggy's leg, it made him feel all tingly inside. A pillow was placed atop of his leg as the skeleton sat to his side, adjusting the bandage and discarding the cleaning products.
Froggy couldn't stand the thick, AWKWARDLY LONG silence, so he remembered the thing Grox said earlier.
“Am I really one of your riches?”
Froggy began quietly, sounding almost hesitant. Grox didn't know how to respond without sounding absolutely ridiculous.
“Actually…”
He started off, pausing to let a smirk grow on his face as he leaned all the way up in his ear out of nowhere. Froggy’s breath hitched in shock.
“You're not JUST one of them… you're a whole treasure.
Oh that got him REAL good. Froggy trembled, clearly flustered from that. He pushed him off and turned away childishly.
“AYO CHILL.”
Froggy yelled out, rolling his eyes at him. Grox couldn't help but laugh wholeheartedly at his expression.
“Pfft… I was CLEARLY joking dude Oh my God… but I still care about you, okay? That's the part I didn't joke about…”
He placed his hand on his shoulder in reassurance, which quickly lit Froggy up like a candle. He turned to hug him tightly in pure joy.
“Awww, thanks man… I cherish you too…”
He hugged him tighter, slightly nuzzling involuntarily. Grox let it happen, running a hand up and down his back.
“Delighted to hear it, Frog…”
The leader leaned back against the frame, drawing him closer to his chest.
“No moving for the next few weeks, I gotchu…”
His voice dropped to a lighter octave, still stroking his back.
And I think we all know how this ended. The rest of the night was spent away in a, I repeat, FRIENDLY hug between two friends! With both of their heartbeats occasionally jumping, tiny smiles carved in their lips.
