Soul Shenanigans, Ch.1: Every Story Has a Start | a krusielle+soul fanfic

Notes:

Work Text:

Kris and the SOUL had gotten along strangely well since they... well, since they actually talked. They found they had similar interests, similar values - and most importantly, similar fondness towards shenanigans. So, after a week of boundary setting and working together, they considered themselves friends. And one time, during one of their typical late-night conversations, the SOUL spoke from it's cage:

"Kris?"

It asked, it's voice strangely quiet.

"Hm?"

Kris responded, cracking one eye open after the SOUL was quiet for a beat longer than usual.

"...you need something?"

They asked, propping themselves up on their elbows so they could see the cage.

"Do you think I could... meet everyone? Like... Susie, Noelle, Ralsei... hell, maybe even Berdly, hah."

It asked, a strange timidness in it's tone.

"...you have?"

Kris replied, seemingly confused.

"No, like... actually. Not just through you."

"Oh."

The silence that followed wasn't suffocating - just the hard, ruminating kind. One that meant to shut up and let someone think.

"...how much do you want this? Scale of one to ten."

Kris muttered after a moment, their deadpan voice surprisingly soft and contemplative.

"...a lot. So... ten, I guess."

"Figured as much."

Another quiet lull settled between them.

"...yeah. You can."

"REALLY?!"

Kris shushed the SOUL quickly.

"Dude, it's the middle of the night."

"S-sorry! I got excited..."

Kris sighed, but they smirked despite themselves.

"But yeah. It's only right for them to know. Right?"

The SOUL bobbed up and down slightly, indicating a nod. Kris sighed heavily, sitting up fully now.

"We'll need to plan this out. Thoroughly."

"Yeah, of course. Need to plan like it's the best prank of our lives."

Kris snickered.

"Sure, if that helps you think about it."

The two laughed together after a beat, Kris' quiet and tired laughter clashing with the SOUL's high-pitched, manic giggles.

And so, the two beings started planning stuff out - how everything would go, word for word. And just for that moment, everything was okay.

...they ended up atop each other on the floor, out cold.
