Work Text:
It's been a year since Zuko got married to Sokka—his Sokka—, and it's been the happiest year of his life. And the most "domestically caotic" one, too. He couldn't ever ask for more.
Zuko shifted on the bed, turning to look in the eyes of the sleeping beauty beside him. Sokka looked so pretty under the rising sunlight. He closed his eyes, feeling the warmth of being loved. The firebender felt so calm and peaceful he wanted to melt into the sensation.
"Do you think you would be a turtleduck or a cat bat?" An excited voice caused Zuko to jump. He opened his eyes, looking at the man in front of him. Sokka was going to drive him mad one day.
"Turtleduck. They're kinda awkward. I can relate." He giggled. "What do you think you'd be?"
"A koalaotter! I think they're cute."
"Just like you." Zuko smiled warmly at his husband and felt his cheeks going slightly red. He saw the same thing happen to Sokka. "Happy anniversary, dear."
Sokka leaned into a peck on his husband's lips, which the other responded by kissing him. It felt so comforting, so familiar, so right. At this moment, the only thing crossing Zuko's mind was "This is the man I'm gonna spend the rest of my life with, and I couldn't be more happy knowing that."
Their life was not perfect, but it was the best life they could've ever asked for.
