Chapter Text
A groan escaped my lips as the relentless glare of the scorching sun hit my eyes, its vibrant rays shining brightly. The wind flowed its way through my room like a tidal wave. Making my curtain beads chirp against the walls.
Wait what the hell-, the wind? I’m in my house though?
I squinted, glancing around, my eyes felt heavy and difficult to lift. and like I thought my bedroom was before me. I looked towards the culprit, my brother, Punzs his hands on his hips next to my wide open window. His brows were furrowed in annoyance.
The cool morning air stung my face, making me shiver. I pulled the covers over my head with a sigh as a fumble to a more comfortable position. I poked my head out of the blanket, wishing punz were just close the window and blinds
“Punz, it's so early what are you doing,” I cried, my lips smushing into a frown as I finally asked the dreaded question.
I had been on a call with Wallibear, my friend-well I don’t know if I would call him that , Walli was more like an annoyance.
We were up all night playing games, and arguing about what was the better starter Pokémon.
Wallibear thought that the grass type was the “obvious choice” which is absolute bullshit, fire is obviously the best everyone knows that! But because I only got off the phone at 12:00 and fell asleep around 1:30 to… 2:00 AM, due to my doom-scrolling addiction.
Although I didn't let Punz know that.
“You know why I'm waking you up,” he barked back, the sheer volume of his voice making me cringe the same way a turtle would retreat into its shell.
“Uh, not really mind reminding me?” I sneered, rolling my eyes for good measure. It was so unfair, Dream (Our older brother) slept in all day everyday and Punz never said anything or even really care.
“Purp! It's your first day of school. How could you forget something so important? he eyed me up and down as if looking for something hidden beneath my skin. But as soon as the words left his mouth my mind roamed elsewhere.
Wait what?
School? That wasn’t for another few weeks..
Right?
“Punz, I think you’re mistaken-” I went to protest but my brother’s harsh glare made the words dry up on my tongue.
“Purpled Bedwars Wastaken!” Oh no. the full name, now that was a call for disaster.
I promptly began racking my brain for what I had done wrong. Did he find out about last night? No way! He was sound asleep. Did he find my report card from last year? Prime, he would find that I flunked my math quiz, huh Why would he care about that? He'd given up on tutoring me. I’m sure he has realized math is not my strong suit. I had always been more of an astronomy guy myself.
Call me boring but I could stare at the stars for hours. The endless expansion of space always fascinated me, even as a kid I would sneak out and climb out my bedroom window just to sit on the roof and watch the stars.
One of Dream’s friends, Snapchat? Napsap? Whatever his name isn’t important, but he was just the only one who would humor me instead of just shooing me away or lock me in my room whenever they’d come over.
He would sit out on clear nights
and tell me stories about the constellations. big bear and little bear, and Orion the hunter were my favorite.
“Dont you accuse me of lying young man,” he warned, rudely interrupting my train of thought. And who is he calling “young man” he’s only older by a couple years.
“It's August 13th, and I've given you many warnings.”
Oh my prime he’s bad at tellin’ jokes...
Ha, I'm doomed.
“Can’t-” I took a deep breath in. “Can’t I just skip?” willing my voice to have ease. Punz was pretty relaxed on stuff like that, if I need a mental health break or whatever those are.
All Punz did was click his tongue and pinch the bridge of his nose in annoyance.
“No you cannot skip!” he said exasperated. “This is the first day of school. I’m not stupid enough to allow that.” oh I wish he was.
“Oh gosh..” I rolled my eyes again, more to myself than him. “I haven’t even wash my hair or packed my bag….!” I jumped out of bed with my black polka-dot blanket pooling at my feet, with my eyes already locked on my closet, my brother stared
“Really Purpled, that’s all you can think about?” I ignored the judgmental questions and pulled out a bag of school supplies and started sorting through my clothes.
I heard a long sigh from behind me. My posture tensed before softening ."Thanks for waking me up,” I muttered, feeling kinda sheepish. As the heavy footsteps got quieter and quieter, eventually leaving my room entirely. I was left to my own devices.
I stopped in the mirror to give myself a look over. Today I decided to wear something more basic, I pulled some random graphic tee, and a purple sweatshirt. I brushed my grayish blonde hair out of my face, before letting my eyes flicker down to my dark blue jeans. They were a present from my 15th birthday. They were fraying at the ends, but I didn't mind. I got them from Dream’s boyfriend. I don't really talk to him, and he wasn’t the kindest to me when Dream and him were just friends, but he's nice to Dream and buys me stuff.
I bent down to tie my Converse, muttering rhyme. “Left over, punch it through, pull it tight.” As I made the bunny ears, I began the rhyme again on my right shoe. “Left over, punch it through, pull it tight.”
I adjusted my legwarmers, thatI got them both at spirit halloween during spooky season. I glanced in the mirror before finally deeming myself acceptable to the outside world.
Usually, I wouldn’t care what I look like but since it’s the first day of school Dream must be up early and he would definitely care what I’m wearing.
I push open my bedroom door and adventure down the long hallway of my home. The floorboards creaked in protest wishing upon my demise as I patted across the floor. My finger ran across the light cream coloured walls as my nose led me to the kitchen. I wondered who was making breakfast this morning. I whispered a small prayer that it wasn’t Dream.
“Good morning, Purpled!” speak of the devil. I spun around to face my brother.
“Ah Dream!” I gasped, pretending to be surprised. I swear he had a 6th sense.
His smile contoured into a cheeky grin.
“So Dream what for breakfast?’ My eyes harrowed in suspicion as I pressed my lips together. Without answering me he started walking. I watched as the older man pass me
“Come on or Punz will eat your share of breakfast.” The thought of sitting with Punz after our quarrel made me squirm and the thought of eating whatever Dream made me sick.
“Hey so I might just skip breakfast, so I won't be late for school,” I said, my voice slipping into a sort of begging tone.
“Oh no dear you can’t miss it. I made the fluffiest pancakes!”
Dream couldn’t cook to save his life, so I highly doubt that. I still remember the day Punz and I were forced to eat his spaghetti. We had food poisoning for a week. I shivered at the thought.
“No seriously Dre I really got to go-” I stared glancing behind me. ‘Your room is just a little ways away!’ The voice in my head cried. If I could just get my backpack, I could leave without the taste of death in my mouth.
“So how is it?,” Dream asked me, his eyes glistening brightly. “Come on, you can be honest with me.” his soft voice almost tricked me into telling the truth.
“I-it’s delicious so,so, SO delicious!” I replied, trying to keep my face from crumbling into a repulsive expression. “I think it's even better than last time!”
Well that's a lie if l’ve ever heard one, although I was still proud of myself that I kept my voice from quivering, but I still needed to blink the tears away.
“Oh honey I'm so happy you like it,” my older brother smiled softly as she cleared the table. “Your workaholic no good sibling decided to ditch breakfast,” he huffed, grumbling under his breath.
“Oh that's too bad,” I grouched, wishing I was smart enough to just sneak out my window.
“Well i better start heading out,” i sighed,
“Okay bye honey.” Dream yelled back, as I shuffled towards my room clutching my stomach in pain. I felt queasy already.
To my surprise, I was able to make it to my room without hurling. And there it was my ticket out of here. I grinned gleefully, as I clutched the pale grey strap of my backpack.
I bit my lip as I gauged the distance from my bedroom window to the trash bin right under it. I shut my eyes as I swung my legs over the window sill and jumped down into the alleyway.
I rubbed my ankles wincing in pain before walking down the alley behind my house, as I admired the scenery.
Maybe today would be my day
