Chapter Text
Yuuji sat on his bed, he had woken up a few minutes ago and just sat there. He swears he had something to do but he can’t remember to save his life.
Maybe it was nothing, he thought and just as he was about to say whatever and lay back down, his phone rings.
He grabs his phone, picking up the call and placing it by his ear. “Hello?”
“WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU, YOU'RE LATE?!” Nobara's voice came in. Yuuji's eyes widen as he quickly gets up, tripping over his shoes in the process and checking his calendar.
Right, it’s the first day of college.
He shuts his eyes and sighs. “Shit, shit, shit,” he puts his friend on speaker, ignoring her yells as he quickly scatters his room for clothes.
“You better be getting ready or imma kick your ass!”
Yuuji pulls his leg through the pants hole and trips. He hears Nobara complaining about goofing around but he ignores her. Standing up, he buttons his pants and grabs a random black long sleeve from his closet, and he puts some red baggy shirt over it.
“I’m almost done; I’ll meet you by the park, okay?”
“What? That’s not where I'm at you—" he hangs up on her, a small smile on his face as he grabs his sneakers and tries to put them on while walking out the door.
He’s halfway through the hallway when he remembers: “Shit, my bag.”
His lack of time will get him killed one day, he’s sure. He darts back into his room, throwing out ‘excuse me’s and ‘i’m sorry’s when he accidentally gets in people’s way.
Once he’s back into his room, he grabs his bag and skateboard and runs out. He hopes Nobara won’t be too mad but knowing her… he’s in for it big time.
-
When Yuuji arrived at the park, he ended up running away from Nobara because she threatened to pull him by the ear if he ever pulled something like this again.
The two walk side by side, Nobara talks about how she met this girl named Maki at a comic store last week. “There’s no way she wasn’t flirting with me! I’m telling you right now, I'll find her. That’s future wifey right there,” she says proudly.
Yuuji, being the supportive friend he is, says he trusts her to find Maki but he also thinks how dumb she is by not asking for her number.
The city at this time of year was perfect, it wasn’t too hot and the sun wasn’t as bright as it normally is earlier in the year, which is great.
Going to Jujutsu University wasn’t on his radar at all. He’s never even considered it but the other colleges he applied to didn’t answer him back and he didn’t want to waste time. Nobara had mentioned Jujutsu University and that they should apply together. Surprisingly, they both got accepted.
The school itself was pretty big, but it also had a nice exterior that made Yuuji feel comfortable. It felt homey, in a way. A lot of schools in New York didn’t give Yuuji that feeling so he’s beyond grateful that this school does.
-
“Did you get your schedule?” Nobara asks. Yuuji nods and reaches into his back pocket to pull out his schedule, except he didn’t feel it.
He freezes and turns to face Nobara with a cheeky grin. He laughs nervously as he slowly pulls his hand out. “Well, you see, I did have it… I don’t know where it went.”
Nobara pinches her nose bridge and sighs. “What are you good for?”
She grabs his wrist and drags him to the front desk where they ask the lady behind the desk if they can print him a new schedule. The lady looks tired, Yuuji isn’t sure if she always looks like this or if she just truly hates her job.
Yuuji thanks her when he receives his schedule and they both walk back to the main hall. “Oh cool, I got STEM with professor Nanami.”
“Lemme see,” Nobara looks over his shoulder to eye his schedule. “We got Philosophy together!”
Yuuji smiles. “Awesome! It looks like our dorms are near each other too!”
Nobara and Yuuji take the stairs up to the dorms. They had to ask about four people where they were because they kept getting lost.
Eventually, they did find the dorms. They glance at their schedule as they try to find the correct numbers. “Oh yours is right here, so that means mine should be closeby.” Yuuji says to apparently no one because when he looks behind him Nobara isn’t there.
“Itadori, look who’s my roommate!” Nobara shouts and appears out of nowhere. Yuuji looks at her dumbfounded as he looks between his friend and some random person.
“Surely you don’t expect me to know who she is,”
She sucks her teeth and throws her arm around the girl. “This is Maki, you idiot, I told you about her.”
“Exactly you told me about her, how was I supposed to know what she looks like!”
“You told your friend about me? How cute,” Maki smirks and leans into Nobara whose cheeks warms fast, a pink color rising before she could stop it. She looks over at Yuuji. “What room you got?”
Yuuji looks down at his schedule again, “505”
“Oh sweet, you’re rooming with Yuuta!”
“Yuuta?”
Maki nods as she shoves her hands in her pockets. “He’s an old friend from high school, really sweet guy. You’ll like him,”
That actually makes Yuuji feel relaxed. He was worried that his roommate might be rude and wouldn’t like him. Now that would be a shame.
The door across from Yuuji's room opens and someone comes out. He has platinum blonde straight hair and his eyes immediately land on Maki and Nobara.
“This is Inumaki, we also went to high school together, he doesn’t speak and communicates through sign language.”
Yuuji's mouth forms a small ‘O’ shape as he turns to Inumaki and waves hello. A bright smile on his face.
Behind Inumaki, stood the most beautiful person Yuuji has ever seen. His hair was black and spiky and he had the most gorgeous green eyes. What made it even better was the fact that he had an eyebrow piercing and snakebites.
Yuuji opens his mouth to speak but nothing comes out and he's nervous all of a sudden.
“That’s Megumi, my cousin.” Maki says.
Megumi makes a sharp sound with his tongue and rolls his eyes. “Do you have to throw that label every time?”
“Well what else do you want me to say, dumbass?”
“Dunno, maybe not that.”
Maki darts her eyes in disbelief, ignoring him as she whispers something into Nobara's ear that makes her giggle.
Yuuji looks at Megumi only for him to already be looking back. His breath hitches and he swallows any lump that’s preventing him from speaking. “Hi! I’m Itadori Yuuji,”
He greets the remark with a blank stare, which makes Yuuji's nerves kick up but then he nods. “Fushiguro Megumi.”
Yuuji couldn’t help the smile that formed on his face when he got a name. Even his name was just as pretty as him.
Maki drags Nobara to their dorm while Megumi retreats into his own. He doesn’t know where Inumaki is off too, though.
So there’s only one thing left to do.
He opens his dorm room and peaks inside. He didn’t see anyone yet but he did note how cozy it looks.
Closing the door behind him, he takes off his shoes and neatly places them by the door. He walks around and takes in the new scenery of his dorm.
There wasn’t much decor, just a few plants here and there but Yuuji didn’t mind, maybe his roommate wasn’t big on decorating.
“You must be Itadori.”
Yuuji whips his body around and sees what he can only assume is his roommate. His hair was kinda like Megumi’s, in a way. He looks really toned, though.
Yuuji smiles and nods. “Yup! That’s me! You must be Yuuta, right? Maki told me I was rooming with you.”
“Yes, that would be me.” his smile was genuine and soft. Yuuji notices he has very tired looking eyes and yet he seems really sweet. Normally people with tired eyes look a bit intimidating to him, speaking from experience.
“Make yourself at home! Your room is the door by the living room,”
With that, Yuuta makes his way to the kitchen to prepare a meal. Yuuji walks into his room and takes it all in.
-
Yuuji was able to settle in and even made a mental note to stop by his old room at some point this week to bring some stuff over because his room was too plain for his liking.
Yuuta had made homemade burgers which are by far the best burgers that’s ever entered Yuuji's mouth. Now the two sit on the couch as Yuuta tells a story about his time in Africa and his time in high school with Maki and the others.
They continued telling stories and Yuuji found himself having a good time. He seems to be getting along with his roommate which makes all the worries he had before fade away.
“So, what made you choose Jujutsu University?” Yuuta asks as he leans back on the couch.
“I had applied to different schools but none of them got back to me, I guess that was their way of letting me down easily.” he laughs but there’s no amusement behind it.
“Anyways, I didn't want to waste any more time so I kept applying and my friend—Kugisaki was the one who told me about this school. She said we should apply together and we both got accepted which was a shock.”
Yuuta laughs and throws his leg over the other. “Maybe it was a sign. This school is extremely good and has a great education system! I’m sure you’ll do good there,”
“Thanks, Yuuta. I’m glad to have someone as humble as you as my roommate! I was afraid to have someone mean.”
Yuuta bumps his shoulder with Yuuji's, a smile plastered on his face. “Don’t mention it. Oh! You should show me some of your art!”
-
Classes went surprisingly well. He didn’t have much so it wasn’t much of a stress. His first class was chemistry with Geto, he seemed nice. Though he did get annoyed because his phone kept going on ninety percent of the time.
Yuuji went to the cafeteria only to see Nobara already sitting with Maki. “Guess I'll have to mentally prepare myself to have my best friend taken from me,” he mumbles under his breath.
He’s happy though, Nobara never really had female friends. There was this one girl she was friends with in middle school but she ended up backstabbing her so she’s only ever stuck by Yuuji's side so if anything he’s grateful he’s talking with Maki.
There wasn’t anything he was craving from the cafeteria and if he recalls, there should be a cafe nearby. He unwraps his headphones that were around his ipod and plugs them in his ear. He presses on his playlist and walks out of campus.
Yuuji was very fond of music. His ipod had over 300 songs downloaded into it and even then it isn’t enough. His headphones and ipod were his most prized possession and he would quite literally fight anyone if they touched them.
He laughs to himself at a memory he just remembered. In high school, Nobara and he were going to the mall and he left in such a rush that he forgot his headphones. It wasn’t till he reached the mall to realize he didn’t have them on it so he ran back home to get them. Nobara was soooo annoyed that she made him carry all twenty of her heavy bags.
The cafe comes into view and he pushes through the doors, the sound of the bell ringing faintly. The smell of coffee and pastries put him at ease.
He reaches the counter and looks at the menu.“Helloooooooo, how can I help you?” their tone was sing-songy.
Yuuji looks up to see a 6’3 tall man with hair as white as snow and the bluest eyes he’s ever seen in his life.
“Could I get a coffee and a croissant?”
“Sure thing, kid!” he says. Except he doesn’t move and he stands there looking at Yuuji like an idiot. Which of course, makes him believe he has something on his face.
“Do I have dirt on me?” Yuuji frowns and brings his hand up to wipe his face but the other man just laughs.
“What’s your name?”
“Itadori Yuuji,”
“How would you like a job here?”
Yuuji's eyes gleams. “A job? Here? But I didn't even apply.”
“Ah, no worries! I need the extra help and you seem responsible enough. Can you start today?”
Today? This definitely isn’t how Yuujis planned his day to go. But then again, he never really plans his days out, and if he does, they never fall through correctly. Plus, he’s not one to complain right now. He just got offered a job with no interview! He can’t wait to rub it in Nobara’s face later!
“Yeah! But I actually have class, so...”
The man waves off a dismissive hand. “No worries, you can come after. I’m Gojo Saturo, by the way.”
With that, he walks to the back and prepares Yuuji's order.
When he receives it, he thanks Gojo and lets him know he’ll see him after class. Walking back outside, he can’t believe his luck, maybe this year won’t be as bad!
-
Class was pretty chill. He only had Philosophy today because Nanami sent an email about an emergency coming up.
It was cool though, he got to brag to Nobara on how he got a job without looking and listen to her complain about how every little good thing always happens to him and not her.
After class, he swung by his dorm room. He was sure he could fit in some decorating before heading to work, but the fear of being late on his first day ate him out so he set a timer.
Come to find out… he forgot to actually press ‘Start’. So now he’s really late.
Yuuta didn’t seem to be at home right now so he left without a warning. He rushes downstairs, not watching where he’s going when he meets face to face with someone and they both go rolling down the stairs.
“Shit! my bad, are you okay?” Yuuji lifts himself up and feels his breath catch his throat when he realizes the person underneath him is the pretty boy from earlier. Fushiguro.
Heat flushes through his face when he realizes their position. His hands were on the side of Fushiguro's head, holding himself up. Their faces close—too close.
“I’m fine.” he says, which makes Yuuji snap out of whatever daze he was in and stands up. He brushes off his shirt and extends his hand out for Fushiguro to grab, who doesn’t seem to take it at first.
He was about to let his hand drop, accepting that he probably doesn’t want the help, before he felt Fushiguro's soft hands wrap around him.
Yuuji's body feels all tingly as he helps him up. He checks the time on his watch and frowns. “Shit, now I'm more late.” he looks at Fushiguro. “Sorry for bumping into you, that’s my fault!” he rams past him, not bothering to look at the expression on his face.
Way to go, idiot. That was smart.
Yuuji lets his hands rest on his knees as he catches his breath. He finally made it but there wasn’t a sight of Gojo anymore.
He takes a step towards the counter and his eyes meet a hand-written sticker note reading: “WSSP YUUJIIIII, i actually had to go, there was an emergency! i left your uniform and name tag in the back, have funnnnnn!!! ;p -G”
Guess it didn’t matter if he was truly late or not.
He goes to the back and changes into his uniform and clips on his name tag. Looking at himself in the mirror, he nods in approval.
Yuuji expects it to be busy, considering it’s a cafe and all but it’s actually not. Maybe it’s because today is a slow day or something but Yuuji is having a hard time staying still in one place.
He counted about five-to-eight customers in the last hour, which isn’t enough to keep his mind fully occupied since he’s been here for about three hours already.
So he decided to clean a bit.
Yuuji wouldn’t say he’s a person who’s messy, but he’s definitely not the type to clean his room until it gets too messy to the point where it aggravates him.
Though, he didn’t have much of a problem cleaning for anyone else or other places, sometimes.
He cleaned the countertop and reorganized all the equipment. There was another worker, Yuuji thinks her name is Ozawa? He can’t remember but she’s either also bored or her job is to actually clean the tables because that’s what she’s been doing the past hour.
He’s tried to make conversation with her but she seems shy and he didn’t want to make her uncomfortable so he didn’t push any further.
He went to the back and started dusting off the corners of the wall.
He notices a large spiderweb on the corner of the roof. “That’s a huge ass web...” he mutters to himself. He gets on his tippy toes to dust it but he doesn’t reach. Yuuji is by no means short at all but this roof is insanely high for no reason.
He looks around for a chair and stops when his eyes land on one. It’s a bit old looking but it should do. He grabs the chair and steadies it beside the table.
Stepping in carefully, he extends his arm and waves the dust brush around.
To his annoyance, the brush wasn’t long enough, he stood on his tippy toes on the chair (which he 100% regrets now) and caught himself as he wobbled slightly.
“Ha… Not so bad,” he chuckles to himself. The smile quickly fades from his face when he sees a weird looking spider dropping down on a silk thread in front of Yuuji. “The hell..?”
Stupidly, he leans closer to look at the spider. It stops midweb and Yuuji can’t help but smile.
That was until the spider decided to launch at him causing Yuuji to lose his balance and fall off the chair and right on his ass.
He swats his entire body to get the spider off him when he feels a slight bite on his neck. He lets out a small “ow” and swats his neck. He stood up quickly, shaking his body a last time before his gaze met the dead spider.
He touches his neck and lets his fingertips feel the print of the bite but quickly lets his hand drop when someone rings the bell.
He drops the dust brusher and makes his way back to the front. “Hi, sorry I was cleaning! What can I do–Fushiguro?”
“Itadori? What are you doing here? And why are you behind the counter?’
Yuuji opens his mouth to speak but is interrupted by a loud bang from the back. They both look back to see.. Gojo? Dusting off his clothes. His eyes met Yuuji's and Megumi and his grin extended. “Yuuji! Nice to see you're already at work! I see you’ve met my son,”
Yuuji's brow twists, a clear sign of confusion as he whips his head around to look at Megumi, because I'm sorry? SON? Gojo jumps over the counter and wraps his arms around Megumi. He kisses on his teeth, shoving Gojo away–or attempting too. “I told you to stop calling me that.
“Whyyyyyyyy? I raised you, did I not?”
“Doesn’t exactly make you my dad or me your son.”
“Oh hush, of course it does!”
“No way,”
“Tsumiki would say otherwise,”
“I'm not Tsumiki.”
“Oh cmon, dont be so mean Megssssss,”
Yuuji beams at the interaction. It's definitely a surprise, but it makes sense considering they look nothing alike.
The bite on his neck became itchy so he raised his shoulder in order to scratch it. “You okay, Yuuji?” Gojo asks. Yuuji gives him a thumbs up.
“Yeah I'm fine, just got bit by some spider while cleaning.”
At that, Gojo went quiet and slightly paler. He kept his eyes locked on him like he was trying to figure something out. “You should get that checked out.” Megumi's voice broke through. Yuuji looks up at him and notices the tip of his ears are a light shade of pink.
“Yeah, I'll go after work.”
“So this is why you were in a rush earlier? You work here now?” Megumi asks while turning to face Gojo. “Didnt know you were hiring.”
“I'm not! But I need an extra hand and little Yuuji came in earlier so I offered!”
Megumi sighs and rolls his eyes and turns back to Yuuji. “Can I just get a black coffee?”
-
Yuuji did not in fact go to the hospital to get the bite checked out. It didn't hurt as much anymore so he can most likely just sleep it off.
He was feeling a bit sick, though. Nobara had invited him to a hang out with her, Maki and Yuuta and as much as he would love to, he had to sit this one out. His head was pounding and his vision was getting a bit blurred. A nap is definitely what he needs right now.
He searches his pockets for his dorm keys and unlocks the door. He takes off his shoes and pushes them against the wall with the side of his foot and closes the door behind him. As he walks in his room, he doesn't bother changing and just flops on the bed.
-
By the time he woke up he was feeling much better and the spider bite was basically gone. Yuuji knew a good night's rest would do the trick!
Today's class was STEM with Nanami and he has to be there in about an hour, which means he has time to shower.
After his shower, he got dressed in black jorts and a red hoodie. He walked back to his room to get his shoes but the second he picked them up, they stayed stuck to him. He shook his hands but the shoe was like super glued to his hand. “Okay… what?”
He lays on his bed and uses his foot to try and separate his hand from his shoes.
That didn't work.
Okay new plan. He gets off his bed and opens his closet door and places the shoe in between as he shuts the door tight. Then he pulls. He can feel it slipping off but it ended up smacking him straight in the face.
He flew back and rubbed his forehead. But hey, that seemed to work because the shoe isn't stuck to him anymore! He looks at it weirdly before going to the kitchen to get some gloves. Maybe Yuuta decided to prank him and put super glue in his shoes.
Picking up the shoe to examine it, it didn't see any signs of glue. Didn't smell like glue either. Just to be safe, he kept the gloves on to put on his shoes. He removes the gloves and reaches for his watch that lays on his nightstand.
He slaps it on and turns his wrist to buckle it when something shoots out of him. He looks at the wall to see a large web and he looks down at his wrist.
Okay… seriously, what the shit? Did that just come out of me?
He slowly faces the mirror and aims at it. How does this even work? Yuuji pushes his wrist out, nothing. He tries the other wrist, nothing.
Yuuji looks at his wrist and the web shoots out and covers his face. Yuuji's screams are muffled due to the web on his mouth. He walks backwards trying to remove the webs and gets up tripping over his bag.
“Yuuji? You okay?” Yuuta's voice came through which sent Yuuji into a small panic.
“Yemmph, im fime!”
“Are you sure?”
Yuuji rips the webs from his mouth and pants. “Yeah, all good!”
“Arent you supposed to be in class?”
Shit. He glances at his watch and sees he is in fact late. Why is this always happening?
Groaning in frustration, he grabs his bag and opens the door in a rush but stops when he sees Yuuta still standing in front of his door. “Yuuta! How are you?” he smiles. Why is he so sweaty right now? Can Yuuta see how much he’s sweating?
Yuuta furrows his brows, not seeming convinced of Yuuji's words of being ‘fine’. Thankfully though, he doesn't seem to push the matter. “I'm fine.. Are you sure you're okay?”
“Yes, totally, one-hundred percent!”
“Listen, if you n–”
“We’ll talk later, okay? I'm late for class,” Yuuji claps his shoulder before running out the door. He checks the time on his watch, he’s definitely fucked but hopefully Nanami is one of the chill teachers.
He reaches Nanami's class and stares at the door. Should he just walk in or sneak in?
Surely if he sneaks in, he would go unnoticed
He opens the door as quietly as possible, eyes shutting as it makes a small creek. Once it’s wide enough, he slips through. The lights were off since Professor Nanami seems to be having some presentation.
He keeps his head ducted low and right when he was convinced he finally snuck in unnoticed, the lights turned on.
“Mr. Itadori.”
Yuuji cringes to himself and stands up awkwardly. He turns to his professor, a nervous laugh escaping his lips. “Professor Nanamiiii, see the thing is—“
“Zip,” he interrupts. Yuuji shuts his mouth. “If you’re gonna be late and sneak into my class, I advise you to get better at it. What you pulled just now was terrible.”
Yuuji nods and swallows. “Yessir!”
He quickly runs to an empty seat right in the middle and grabs his textbooks. Well, it could’ve gone a lot worse!
“You really suck at this, huh?” a voice whispered from beside him. Yuuji looks over to his right and sees Megumi slightly leaning to the side of his table.
“I guess, yeah.” Yuuji laughs as he rubs the back of his neck.
“Quiet, you two.” Nanami semi shouts and continues his presentation.
Nanami wasn't exactly the ideal ‘chill teacher’ but he wasn't strict like some, or like how he appears.
He went over the meaning of STEM and its benefits and how it's used. Yuuji found it really interesting, surprisingly so.
It was kinda hard to stay fully concentrated since for whatever reason it feels like all his senses were heightened. Whatever that spider was definitely seemed to have a toll on him and he needed to talk to Nobara about it. Maybe he should’ve listened to Megumi and got it checked out.
“Class dismissed.”
Everyone gathered their things and walked out of class. Yuuji stood up and threw his bag over his shoulder but the voice of Nanami made him pause.
“You stay,”
Yuuji's lips are pursed together as he turns his body and smiles. “Nanamiiii, hey lis—“
“You are not to call me Nanami.”
Yuuji blinks. “Uh okay, um—“
“Itadori Yuuji, is it? Care to explain why you were late and decided to awfully sneak into my class?”
Okay, okay… What should I say? I can’t just say “yeah so i woke up with my shoes sticking to my hands and a web to the face” that sounds so fake!”
Nah, just say something dumb, any other excuse a normal person would say. Like waking up late!
“I didn’t sneak in!”
Nanami shifted his body to lean on his desk, head tilted to the side as he sighs.
Oh my god, not that dumb, you idiot!
“I meant—uh—i woke up … late?”
Nanami pitches his nose bridge. “I don’t know why I bothered asking. Don’t let it happen again.”
“Yessir!”
-
He decided not to tell Nobara about whatever's going on with him–or anyone, actually. After running it in his head over and over, it sounds insane and no one would believe him without proof–which he did try to do again but failed.
He flops on his bed, popcorn in hand as he opens the news on his phone. The reporter: CaseOh (weird name for a reporter) has the camera face on Spider-man fighting crime in a supermarket. He shoots his webs to the criminal's leg and ties him to a lamppost.
“There you have it folks, Spider-menace makes major damage at a supermarket. Wherever Spider-man goes, chaos follows. In conclusion, he’s a BUM.” CaseOh says into the mic, looking displeased.
Yuuji watches Spider-man closely, his mind wandering off to this morning, then the dots connect:
Spider bite..
Things sticking to him..
Webs shooting out of him..
Yuuji chokes on his popcorn and sits up. He runs over the possibility in his head countless times, trying to come up with any other explanation but nothing else makes sense.
Oh fuck.
