Work Text:
“Five more minutes,” Yosuke mumbles against the crown of Yu's head, tightening his embrace as he ignores the blaring of the alarm clock on the nightstand that Yu turned off for him.
"You need to get up, Yosuke," Yu says, voice groggy and thick with sleep, even though he comes closer, nuzzling against Yosuke's collarbone. It's cold, the morning air penetrating through their tiny apartment, but Yosuke is warm like the sun on a good day, and he feels like he's being enveloped by his own personal heater.
"In a few," he replies. He'll regret it later, scrambling from their bed and running around the house to get ready to leave. He has an exam in two hours—of which Yu helped him revise the past few nights—and he really should get up if he at least wants to eat a light breakfast.
Yu should get up too, actually. He should make Yosuke breakfast and get ready for his own day. He has an exam as well, albeit in the afternoon so he doesn't need to rush. But Yosuke's grip on him is too tight, arms and legs wrapped around Yu like a giant octopus, and the slow even breaths fanning his hair and the steady heartbeat against his cheek feels nice. Very nice. Magnificent, truly.
He doesn't want to let go, and he'd like to stay like this forever.
So he closes his eyes, listening to the beating of Yosuke's heart like a lullaby.
Five more minutes.
—
Yu feels nice.
Great, even.
It's better than all of the pillows he's hugged to sleep at night before they moved in together for university.
(Which is another thing, by the way. Call Yu Narukami "Junes" the way everyday's great with him. He doesn't know how he'll survive living without Yu anymore, doesn't know how he even survived before they lived together.)
He loves holding Yu in his arms and being held in return. Right now, he could smell the shampoo on Yu's hair—orange-scented, he most likely stole Yosuke's again—and could feel his silver hair tickling his chin. Normally, he'd thread his fingers through them, feeling through the soft locks like they're cotton. But he's too lazy to move, and Yu's back is nice too.
It's not something he has ever expected to happen, being with Yu like this that is. It wasn't even that long when the prospect of liking guys felt so foreign to him. It still does sometimes, when he's having a bad day or when he hears something. But Yu's always there to ease his worries, always there to make things right.
Maybe liking guys will forever remain foreign to him, but one guy can be an exception.
There's nothing else to it. Being with Yu, despite everything, just feels right.
Just like right now, where they're a tangled mess, limbs locking together as if their bodies unconsciously tried to merge into one in their sleep—or chased the warmth through the cold. He could easily forget the world when they're like this. Forget everything but Yu.
Everything…
Like his exam.
"Shit!!!"
He sat up, startling Yu in the process.
"Yosuke?! What's wrong?" He asked, until he saw the alarm clock, telling them that Yosuke only had 46 minutes left until his exam.
Yosuke ran around the house, his toothbtush in his mouth while putting on his clothes, running around to grab himself packed onigiri—he was so lucky Yu decided to make some as snacks—from the fridge.
Once he was ready—as ready as he could be in 15 minutes—he returned to the bed and kissed Yu—who had a massive bed head and was sleepily watching him with a small smile—on the cheek.
"Sorry partner, I gotta go! Catch you later–woah!" Yosuke exclaimed as Yu's hand pulled him closer to kiss him on the lips.
It's almost impossible to let go then, with how Yu's lips feel so good against his, and it's taking everything in Yosuke's power to not just forgo his exam entirely and straddle Yu to make out with him, perhaps even fuck Yu's brains out—
He pulled away reluctantly.
"Partner, if you keep doing that, I'll seriously never make it in time for my exam."
Yu chuckled, "sorry, sorry. Later?"
Yosuke grinned in approval.
"See you later, partner! I'll text you!" Yosuke shouted as he ran off.
"Good luck!" Yu shouted back, then flopped back down in bed when he heard the door close.
He grabbed Yosuke's pillow, hugging it tightly, feeling its residual warmth and smelling the undeniable scent of his partner. It's not the same, nowhere near it, but it'll be enough for now.
He doesn't need to get up until later, but he's awake now and he can't get back to sleep now that Yosuke's side of the bed is starting to cool and his partner's not around.
He'll do the laundry first, then cook lunch for when Yosuke comes back and he needs to leave for his own exam.
But for now, Yu nuzzles his head on Yosuke's pillow, relishing the feeling of it.
Five more minutes.
