The Internet Said What? (also what's the year)

Summary:

The internet thinks cap is homophobic.

Peter is understandably confused as he is trans ( and knows cap accepts him) and cap is dating bucky.

Cap forgot what century he was in and tried to warn someone to keep them from getting hate crimed and ended up accidentally threatening them (apparently a very tall buff white guy saying “don’t do that in public if you know what’s good for you” is very intimidating).

Work Text:

“What happened?”

“My council has advised me not to speak on this matte- hey pete.”

“Hi, what happened, and how many phone calls have you gotten today?”

“Too many phone calls to count.”

“Cap why does the entire internet think you’re homophobic?”

“It’s not the entire internet.”

“Maybe, but it’s definitely close.” peter heard Bucky say faintly. Cap sighed.

“I may have forgotten what year it is. . .” he slowly admitted.

“And how intimidating you are!” Bucky called back.

“I’m not intimidating.” Cap protested.

“You are, and that’s coming from both the best assassin like, ever and a super hero.” Peter said, trying to keep the conversation on track.

“I saw a kid kiss his fella and-”

“His what?” Peter interrupted.

“His fella, boyfriend, whatever. Anyway, he kissed him, and I was worried he’d get hate crimed, so I warned him-”

“It sounded like a threat!”

“It did not!” cap protested vehemently, if not loudly.

“Did too!”

“Boys!” Peter interrupted.

“I warned him,” cap said putting extra emphasis on ‘warned’ to bucky’s amusement if the chuckle peter heard in the background was any indication, “That it was dangerous to do that where anyone could see you.”

“Your exact words were, and I quote: ‘don’t do that in public if you know what’s good for you.’ end quote!”

“Don’t you have something to do?” Cap called back.

“You later!” was his boyfriend’s response.

Cap sighed. “Kid’s still on the phone!”

“Why do you think I’m waiting?”

“You forgot you’re like 6 foot, and muscular now didn’t you?” Peter asked, ignoring the tangent.

“Maybe.” Steve admitted sheepishly.

“And now everyone thinks it was a threat.”

“I think so.”

“I’m starting to realize how you got into so many fights as a kid.”

“And Adult!” Bucky contributed.

Steve groaned in annoyance, and Peter laughed.

“Tony’s got the whole team working on this isn’t he?” Peter asked.

“He’s got two whole teams, while I’m just considering sharing that I bat for the other team.”

“Right. . .”

“That I’m gay, whatever. You know what I mean.”

“PR I get but what’s the other team?”

“Lawyers. They’re trying to get the footage taken down because I was filmed without consent or something.”

“Well good luck, and if you do come out I hope it goes well.” Peter said.

Notes:

I wanted decade accurate slang for boyfriend so. . .

I think the term ‘sugar daddy’ partly comes from 1930s slang since apparently ‘daddy’ was something women would occasionally call a rich gut they were dating, ‘golddigger’ was apparently also slang in this decade. ‘Owl’ apparently meant someone who’s up at night so maybe that’s where ‘night owl’ is from.
“So’s Your Old Man – reply showing irritation from 1915 onwards”

All the stuff from here: https://bygonetheatre.wordpress.com/tag/1930s-slang/ (forgive me for not doing too much research but it’s just a random idea I had to write).

Other terms I was considering:
Ethel – effeminate man
Fella – guy
Joe Brooks – someone who is fashionably dressed
Old Boy – male term to address other men also “Old man”
Sheik – A man with sex appeal (from the Valentino movies)
Snuggle pup – teenager term for a sweetheart who likes to cuddle

TLDR: I learned some new 1930s slang while researching for this, and thought it was cool.
