Fingers curled around his throat.
Harry didn't want to die. Not really, anyway—he wasn't suicidal. But the idea that an entire society depended on him was a thought that weighed heavily on his shoulders.
Spittle covered his face.
"Pretty boy."
Harry did not want to die. And, yet, he did not want to move his hand. Maybe, in the back of his head, there was a small voice telling him he should want to defend himself. But Harry did not want to do many things anymore.
Fingers tugged at his hair.
He didn't think he could do anything even if he did want to.

Or: Harry is concussed after Vernon beats him, and chooses to leave and wander his high-street at night. He gets into a nasty altercation with someone, and almost loses hope, before someone apparates to him and gets him out of it. That someone just so happens to be Snape. It is a small world, after all.
