Chapter Text
New town, new start, she thought. Lara Jean's playlist played in her ears as she set her boxes down. She now found herself at the footsteps of her new apartment in New York City, desperately needing a fresh change of scenery. After the fiasco with the letters, Josh, Peter... she needed out. So as soon as she found out NYU had a highschool program and internship, she convinced her dad to let her finish senior year over here in NYC. She was already coming here in a year, why not get a head start?
She wasn't running, no she was... moving on. And to move on it just so happened she had to move in to a new apartment.
In a new city.
Hundreds of miles away.
Completely reasonable.
Lost in her thoughts, she accidentally dropped one of her boxes. "Shit."
"Oh I can help you with that."
When she turned to find the owner of the voice she saw a brunette boy coming over to help, smiling at her. She pulled out her wired headphones to greet him.
"Thanks, turns out it's much harder to do things when you're not fully focused", she chuckled. He joined her in setting down and carrying boxes.
"Well I'm down to help anytime, I'm Peter, Peter Parker. I actually live right next door with my Aunt May." Peter
"Well, Peter Parker, you seem to be very helpful", she smiled.
"Oh, heh, just your friendly neighborhood uh... neighbor..."
Awkward, but a sweet awkward
"Where are you from?", he asked.
"Oh I'm from down in Virginia."
"Virginia? Damn what brought you all the way up here?"
My little sister meddling in my love life. "Oh, uh I'm taking a program and internship at NYU but I'm finishing my senior year here too." That was technically also the reason.
"Oh really? What highschool are you going to?"
"Midtown Science and Tech"
"No way I go there too! Hey at least now you'll have a friendly face there", he grinned. "Though it be nice if this friendly face knew your name?"
Oh crap, have I really not given him my name? "I'm Lara Jean", she reached out to shake his hand. He returned the gesture.
"Well, Lara Jean, seems like we'll be seeing a lot more of eachother", he said with a grin.
"Seems like it", she chuckled.
An hour later, they finished bringing all her boxes in. They worked much faster together. Now they were just hanging outside her door enjoying the nice afternoon.
"Thanks a lot, really, I appreciate it a lot. I don't know how I'll make it up to you."
"Like I said, anytime. Plus you're nice to hang out with." A slight pink tinged his cheeks. Not really that noticable but it was there.
His response made her smile at her shoes. A little giddyness made it's way in her. Just then, there was a crash from two blocks away, catching their attention. Both turned their heads in the direction of the sound.
"What happened over there?", she asked, eyebrows twisting with curiosity.
"Oh uh, I don't know but you should probably go inside where it's safe.", he began, nerves now taking over him. She could notice the change in his demeanor, raising her suspicion. "I gotta go but it was very nice meeting you Lara Jean, I hope to see you again soon!", he said. And with that he raised his hand, waved goodbye, and got going. Leaving her alone on her doorstep, bamboozled. Odd.
Later that evening, she received a FaceTime call from Margot. Her laptop screen showed her sister in her dorm room. "So how's New York? Is it as cool as they say?"
One thing she was able to salvage back home before she left was her relationship with Margot. After what happened with Josh she had gone straight to her sister asking for forgiveness and tried to explain. Even though what she had done wasn't the best, they eventually made up.
"Hey Margot, it's fine so far over here. The people are nice, this guy helped me move my boxes." A small smile had found its way onto her face. She looked down trying to hide it.
"A guy, huh? What's his name? How is he?", Margot began inquiring.
Lara Jean rolled her eyes in amusement. "His name is Peter. He's a little... odd but he's just a friend", she answered. Emphasis on the 'just a friend'.
"Wow you really have a thing for Peters." Wow, low blow. "But if you say so. Have you talked to Dad and Kitty yet?"
Ugh Kitty. As much of a mess her sister created she couldn't really hate her. "No I haven't had the chance to. Why?"
"Well apparently, with your whole convincing Dad to let you go to school in New York thing, I guess it inspired her because now she wants to go to South Korea?"
"Korea!? I haven't even been gone for a week and she wants to leave too?"
"Yeah I don't know, she had just told me but she hasn't asked Dad yet. She just seems to be planning on it, don't know if it'll go anywhere."
"Well it's crazy enough to know it sounds like her, I'll give her that." Kitty had always been the wilder one of the three. These type of things were never new. She then rubbed her eyes. "Hey I'm pretty tired from the whole moving thing, I'll talk to you later?"
"Yea of course, good night." "Good night." With that she closed her laptop ending the call.
As she crawled into bed that night, she looked back on her day. It wasn't a bad start, nice even, but still hectic. The whole moving, her interaction from earlier. Specifically her interaction. Something's was really odd with that boy but she found him interesting. After all, when did she not read into things. Who are you Peter Parker?
