Work Text:
It was late and the stars were out. Max wasn’t sure at first why he agreed to go to George’s family farm for summer break but he did. But now that he was here he was glad he did it. The two were currently laying on the grass in the front yard looking up at the stars, their hands were loosely linked together so the other knew each other was still there.
“This is nice.” Max said, turning his head to look at George. George was still looking up at the stars but Max was okay looking at his side profile, it was just as pretty.
“Told you you’d end up liking it. It’s peaceful here, peaceful in a was way you don’t get in a big city.”
“Yeah, it’s nice just to have some time with you.” Being here with George was making Max think of the future, their future together. Did George even want a future with him? They’ve had their fights, even breaking up at one point, and he didn’t know if George was fully on the same page as him. Did George see them together forever like he did or was it just a fling? Max didn’t know what to think, George was very private and Max has troubles reading him at times.
“What’s going through that big brain of yours?” George asked. He turned so he was laying on his side, arm tucked under his head so he could look at Max fully.
“Just thinking about this, all this. A life after racing, a quiet life away from everyone.”
“Yeah, at your alone in this dream or with someone?”
“With someone… hopefully with you.”
“I’m here as long as you want me, whether that’s a few years or until the end. I’m here with you.”
“You don’t mean that.” Max turned to look back up at the stars again. He felt tears in his eyes and didn’t need George to see that.
“Hey none of that. You’re not getting rid of me, I’m here as long as you want me to be.” George reached out and wiped away the lone tear rolling down Max’s cheek with his thumb.
“Forever?” Max asked, turning to look at George again.
“Forever.” George said, rolling over so he could cuddle into Max. His head was resting on Max’s chest and he felt Max wrap his arms around him. George knew they should probably go inside and get into bed but he needed just a moment and even as he started to fall asleep he didn’t want to move. He needed to make sure Max knew he was staying, no matter what.
