Chapter Text
"Person" the radio mumbled, static taking over the hoarse voice making it sound like a whisper, The man in the cabin looked up from the dish he was washing. Turning off the water to stare straight at the old worn red radio. His face turned stone cold, as he stopped humming to fully listen to it.
"Can you tell if it's that Emerson kid again.?" He asked, voice soft yet firm. Waiting in still silence for a response, hoping it wouldn't make the radio stop making noise.
"No-" The voice returned, the static increasing in volume for a minute or two as if it was idle. "Seems new. Tourist?" The radio asked, seeming almost like it could respond to the man.
"Why would a tourist come up here? It's almost midnight, plus the locals tell their stories." The man asked, rolling his eyes in exasperation.
"Don't know." The radio said. The man hummed, walking over to the wall where a double barreled shotgun rested against the smooth wooden wall. He picked it up placing the strap onto his back and positioning it in a way where it didn't hit him as he walked. "Talk?" The radio asked, seeming confused.
"If they are here? Of course I'm gonna talk to em." The man explained, putting on his boots which were not far away from where he once was.
"Better be dying though." The man joked, a small smile gracing his face.
A laugh sounded through the radio, loud and shrill like the creature that made it wasn't human. Reaching notes that didn't align with human vocal cords despite the mimicking. Sounding more like a crowd of Hyena's than the humanish voice it had just been using.
"You know the drill big daddy, I will talk to you tomorrow." The man said, walking back up to the counter where the radio sat.
The creature on the other end of the radio made a loud growling noise, that could be echoed in the distance. The man only huffed, amused as he unplugged the radio from the wall. Spinning on his heels out the front door and down the path.
---
Jack fucking hurt, he hadn't expected the inn owner to know who Robby was, let alone give him this address. If you could even call it that, he had been walking up the mountain path for what felt like hours, using a flashlight to look around since his phone had died about an hour ago. So he was absolutely suffering, the pain in his stub made him want to stop. But he couldn't not now, not when this was the closest trail he had gotten of Robby in months.
Jack froze in panic as movement happened to his right, he spun to fix the flashlight on the creature only to find a man holding a shotgun pointed straight at him. The man held the gun with steady hands, shaggy curls surrounding his head like a halo. Piercing blue eyes staring straight into his soul, a kid no older than twenty nine held the gun that was trained onto his chest.
"Howdy friend, are ya lost?" The man asked almost mockingly, voice spilling out like honey and sugar to Jack's ears. "Don't you know it's late friend Gotta be careful of what comes out at night." The man warned, voice the same mocking tone. Sounding loud in the eerily quiet forest, almost like it was curious of the interaction too.
"Uh, yeah I'm lost. Have you heard of a Michael Robinavich? I was told he is up here but I don't know where his cabin is." Jack asked, averting his gaze for a second before going back to tracking the other man's movements. Surprise filled the other man's face, before he glared at Jack.
"You know Robby?" The man laughed, bitter and cold like someone had pissed in his drink. "Funny cause he never mentioned you." The man spat, knuckles growing paler against the gun as he gripped it tighter.
"listen kid-"
"Call me kid again, see what happens. Don't you come on my property and disrespect me." The man said, the safety audibly unlocking loudly as he flipped it off.
"Woah, woah man I'm sorry-" Jack said waving his hands, pausing for a second before stuttering. "I'm Just-" he rubbed his hands over his face to soothe his oncoming headache.
"My name is Jack. Jack Abbot, I'm looking for him because the last time we saw each other we fought, and he is the best friend I have ever had and I fucked that up." Jack said, emotion entering his voice as he spoke. "I just want my friend back." He finished with a whisper.
A weird high pitched animal noise sounded off in the distance, A sorta screaming sounding warble that made a shiver go straight down Jack's spine. though the stranger only blinked once before lowering the gun.
"Robby is out of town but he will be back in a few days. You're welcome to stay until then." The man spoke, clicking the safety back on. "Let's get you out of the elements, it's warmer in the cabin." He muttered, flipping the gun back onto his back before walking back onto the trail. Jack took a second before following behind him, scanning the trees for whatever had made that sound.
----
"The guest room is in there, the bathroom is there. I suggest you go to bed since it's freezing out, I know I am going to bed." The man spoke softly, pointing to each room of the 'cabin' while ignoring the other ones (the layout of this place looking more like a mansion than a cabin anyhow) "Have you eaten?" The man asked turning to him, seeming like he was actually concerned as he looked at Jack with wide blue eyes.
Jack shook his head silently, crossing his arms uncomfortably. The man took a second before humming in thought.
"Kay, give me a second." The man muttered, walking over to the fridge and pulling out a Tupperware container filled with Mac and cheese.
"just put that in the microwave and stir it. Just left overs from tonight so it's not too old." He said handing the container over to Jack with a small grin. "I was saving it for Robby but I like you already so I don't think he will mind sharing." The man laughed. Jack felt his cock twitch in his pants.
Maybe Jack was dreaming, this felt like a dream. That or a porn video intro.
"Goodnight friend, I'm hitting the hay." The man said, patting Jack on the shoulder before spinning back to what Jack had assumed was the master bedroom.
"Wait-" Jack sputtered. "What's your name?" He asked, voice small as the man looked at him over his shoulder with a smile and tired eyes.
"Dennis, though most of the folks down the mountain call me Whitaker." The man said, looking nervous all of a sudden.
"Thank you, you didn't have to do all this for me." Jack said gesturing to the area around them.
"Whatever is Michael's I take care of. Just how it goes." And with that Dennis went into the master bedroom, shutting the door gently behind him, leaving Jack in silence with the subtle hum of the radio.
