"By Koshchei's immortal scales, who is roaring like that?!"
It's dawn on a school day, and Igor Karkaroff is less than happy to be awake, his long, thin snout poking from beneath the pile of furs underneath which he sleeps. A blast of green fire molests the air and then the lindworm shrugs off his coverings and slithers across the black floor of his bedroom, the immense silver coils of his body, which fill the entire castle, moving and making pale light dance across dark stone.
In his office he comes across his youngest, most competent, and favourite hatchling, a dull grey and black wyvern who is much smaller than he is, but who, unlike him, is capable of flight.
"What's going on, Yuri? Whose head am I going to bite off today?" he asks.
His favourite chick side-eyes him. "War is going on, Headmaster. The mudblood school has attacked. And it's Viktor Krum's head you'll be biting off."
"…Shit. Well, deal with it! I'm going back to bed."
That he duly does.
"War!" Is the word resounding excitedly around the castle as Yuri clambers through it on his way up to the roof, scalding the stone over which he travels. His father possesses two legs while he doubled that with four, but the front pair are wings, making existing on the ground a laborious affair. But let him get to a window not barricaded by a coil of silver, and everything will change.
Such an aperture is located, and the dragon throws himself out of it, his claws and venomously spiked tail scraping against the stone, creating sparks. In the distance fire and ice duel - the breath weapons of combatants.
Being an amphiptere, Viktor possesses no legs whatsoever, and rarely leaves the air, his gloriously feathered bat wings spending most of their time beating the sky. This is partly why he rarely attends lessons. When Yuri flies over to him where he hovers above the headmaster's tower, he vomits a bolt of lightning at the nuisance. The other dragon dodges, slashing his whip of a tail at his friend. The pair will eventually fly off to help fight, but will first wait in order to make a fashionably late entrance.
Only, while they're play fighting, breathing fire and lightning and poison at each other, another dragon dives out of the blue to land on the roof of the castle keep, scattering snow and gravel. Six-limbed and flamboyant, he flaps the purple wings adorned with peacock eye stylings.
"How do you do, fellow kids? I heard there was a fight on?" asks Gellert Grindelwald.
