It was a quiet night on pabu, the merchants and fishermen had packed up for the day, and all the clustered street-ways and docks were now still.
the beautiful lights that lit up pabu always had a special place in techs heart, for it reminded him of the first time he ever came to this island, and the first time he ever acknowledged his feelings for Phee and the life he could have with her.
And tonight he was going to make those fantasies come true.
After his family saved him from the horrors of tantiss and hemlocks training program, he spent a while in Pabus medical facility.
Phee and his family visited quite often and when he was well enough to walk and go out, Phee took him to a nice spot in a hidden beach near the shoreline of the island, it was there where she told him how she felt and they finally shared their long awaited first kiss.
That moment was more than 3 years ago now, tech knew he had to do it, pop the question that lurked in the back of his mind ever since that day on the beach.
“ there is a 94% chance this evening will it go well” he muttered to himself, as he has stated before, he was seldom wrong, still, something made his knees and stomach weak when he thought of the moment he’d do it, like there was a chance his love would say no.
He thought about that a lot. He thought about what would happen after, if their relationship would become awkward or still.
he also wondered if Phee would tire of him or suddenly get bored by all of his science rants and interests. Those were the thoughts that scared him the most.
Deep down in his heart and mind he knew she would never do that to him, but he still could not shake the feelings of doubt that chased him to every corner of his mind.
As Hunter often said, “ the worst thing you can doubt, is yourself”
Tech supposed he was right, the former Sargent often always knew what to say, especially after Omega came along into their wayward family. It was a natural talent he always possessed.
It was their date night, (one of Techs most cherished things in the galactic civilization ) and Phee chose a small little restaurant that overlooked the sea and setting sun. Fitting to the theme, the restaurants name was Sunset and Waves, a hidden gem that was built over a year ago on the lower level of pabu.
the owner was an kind older gentleman who was relatively new to the shores of pabu. From what tech heard, he was a retired bounty hunter who finally decided to put his glory days behind him, and fulfil his dream settling down and opening a restaurant
As Tech got dressed in his semi casual clothing, he recited the words he was going to say later that evening like a mantra in his head, “will you marry me”
it almost didn’t feel real to Tech, his whole reason for being alive was to fight the separatist
Rarely he thought about the war ending and what would happen after, but when he did he never thought marriage or a family would be on the table.
Tech sighed, he pulled out the box containing the diamond ring from his shelf and carefully tucked it away in his trousers.
Tech headed for the door and called out his goodbye to his family, he heard a flurry of responses as he closed the door and made his way to phees house
As they made their way to the restaurant, Phee noticed Tech being unusually quiet which normally ment there was something on his mind.
“you ok brown eyes” she said, concern flashing across her features,
“fine” Tech quickly replied, not meeting her eyes. Phee knew something was up. but, she decided to leave it be and not pester him into telling her. Something Phee had learned over the years was that Tech did not like being questioned, she didn’t know everything that happened to him on Tantiss, nor did she think anyone else would either. But from what she gathered from the time she got to know him and the little pieces of information he shared sometimes, she pieced together that what she thought happened to him there was much more horrifying than she imagined.
A little while later they got to the restaurant and they made their way towards a quieter spot in the room.
It was a quaint little building, furnished with dark brown walls and red and black furniture, the interior lighting was dim with little candles on the middle of every table, there were huge glass pains that oversaw the view of the ocean, and fancy lights that hung over every booth and table.
After the couple ordered their appetizers, phee decided to help take his mind off of whatever was bothering him that evening, luckily her stories always seemed to have that effect on Tech.
“Ever heard of the time I successfully defeated a exogorth while mining for quadrillium” Phee said in that charming way of hers
“Yes, you’ve mentioned that story quite often in the last few years” Tech stated
“But”, he continued “I would always love to hear it again” and with that Phee started her long and captivating intro.
“ it all started when an informant sent me on a mission to the dangerous planet felucia…”
After Phee had ended her story and the entree had been served, Tech decided that he could not wait longer to ask.
“Phee” tech said as he slid the box out of his pant pocket and reach for her hand with the other
“Mmhmm” she perked with a mouth full of food
“I am aware that I..am not perfect”he trailed off
Phee swallowed slowly, realization shadowing her face as she gently squeezed his hand as her lovely eyes came to meet his
“But the last few years we’ve known each other ” he heard his voice crack at that last part as a hard lump rose in his throat
“And if you deem yourself content in this relationship to stay, I want to marry you, phee” he said pulling out the box and opening it to show the ring. his heart thundered in his rib cage so loud he thought everyone in the restaurant could hear, logically and physically he knew that was impossible, but from the way it was the only thing he could hear it felt like it wasn’t
Phee paused like she was frozen in time and for a second Tech thought his fears came true until he heard a soft
“Oh Tech” as she half sobbed, tears leaking down her rosy cheeks
“Yes” she said, elation lighting up her whole body
“a thousand time yes!” She exclaimed
That word felt like symphony to techs ears as Phee pulled him into a kiss.
fireworks exploded on his lips as
His body slouched with relief, fuzzy feelings flooding his heart like a dam breaking after so long of holding water back
After they pulled away, Phee took the ring and slid it down her ring finger. It fit perfectly just as Tech knew it would
“I love you brown eyes”
“And I love you” Tech replied as they embraced
and in that moment they knew they got their long deserved happy ending
