Perhaps it would’ve been simpler if Niall had said something stupendously false, like, I was madly in love with you even then. That would have been easy to digest. Romantic revisionism, that sweet, pathetic move of a boy who had been pining in a courtroom corridor, all to retroactively paint their youth with a tragic glow.
