Work Text:
Home used to always be so certain for Scott.
It was his house with his family, with the garden of flowers.
Even when his mother passed, that was home. It always was.
When he was drafted to Blue Kingdom, he had to leave his home behind.
Blue Kingdom did not feel like home, even if he had to live there.
There were friends who tried to help it feel like home, but it just wasn’t right.
After all, he already had home.
The letter came, and he rushed back to his home.
His father died, and so home was…gone.
Back to Blue Kingdom, he had a house, yet no home.
But as time went on, things began to change.
He began to get closer to others, and found himself getting particularly close to Nom.
Laughing, crying, hanging out, opening up, learning new things.
Blue Kingdom started to feel like home.
His house, his friends, everything.
And then his home was threatened.
The Creaking King made offers that most would refuse, trying to trick and tempt people.
Scott overcame it, proved he was stronger than it, that he could protect his home this time.
Nom fell victim, consuming the resin to keep his home safe.
Both for the sake of home, for the sake of keeping this kingdom and each other safe.
After the battle, Scott had to watch as the curse took over the rest of Nom’s body.
Nom died, and Scott felt he’d lost home once again.
Home was not a place where you lived, home was the people you loved.
As family, friends, or something more, people hold your heart, and the heart is where home lives.
Scott’s home lives on forevermore in the Blue Kingdom, on a cliff overlooking the sea, in the trunk of a pale oak.
Home was certain and solid.
Home was Nom.
And one day, however long in the future it is, he’d be home again.
