Work Text:
It’s been a week since everyone had been back at the compound. Steve and Tony had a long talk about what had happened and were slowly rebuilding their relationship again.
Everyone had met Peter again a few more times. Tony was still wary about him being around the others, and they all found that reasonable, considering everything the team had been through.
Tony had also filled Peter in about how everyone thought they were biologically related and asked if he wanted to tell them the truth, but Peter had the same stupid ideas as Tony and wanted to keep the prank going.
It was Wednesday afternoon, and everyone was in the common room. They were on the couches watching TV and talking.
The elevator dinged, and out walked Peter, his curls bouncing on his head as he bounced into the room. He made his way over to the couch and flopped down next to his dad, who was already wrapping an arm around him.
“How was school, kiddo?” Tony asked.
“It was fine. I got a hundred on my science test!” the boy chirped.
Tony smiled and ruffled the boy’s hair, sending his curls everywhere.
“Good job, buddy. I’m very proud of you,” Tony told him, and you could hear the love in the man’s voice.
Peter smiled but blushed at the praise.
“Good job, Peter,” Bruce said from the other side of the room.
“Thanks, Bruce,” Peter smiled at the other man.
“So, Pete, we’re having a team dinner and movie night, and you’re invited. You get to pick what we eat and watch,” Tony said.
“Oh, okay.”
“So, kid, what are the plans for tonight?” Sam asked.
“Oh, um. Can we have Thai food, and then for the movie, can we watch Star Wars?” Peter looked up at his dad.
“Of course we can, buddy,” Tony chuckled.
Peter grinned.
“But we’re watching the original trilogy because they’re the best ones,” Peter pointed out.
The group chuckled.
Not too long after, they had eaten their dinner and were getting to the end of The Empire Strikes Back. Peter could barely keep his eyes open.
Tony looked down to his side at his spiderling, who was on the cusp of sleep. He smiled fondly and started gently carding his fingers through the boy’s curls to hopefully help him fall asleep so he could take him to bed.
Peter was so content that he started to purr. Tony cooed at the sight, while the others looked over at them. They knew the kid was, uh, different, but they didn’t know he could purr.
“Is he… purring?” Wanda asked, looking at the boy.
“Yes. He’s part spider, remember. Some spiders purr to attract a mate, but Peter purrs more like a cat when he’s content,” Tony explained.
Tony scratched Peter’s scalp, and he let out a pretty loud purr.
“That’s actually pretty adorable,” Sam said.
“It is. I’ll be right back. I’m going to put him to bed,” Tony said as he scooped Peter up and made his way to the elevator to go to their floor.
The others continued to watch the end of the movie. Around ten minutes later, Tony returned.
“Alright, I’m back,” he said as he made his way back over to sit down again.
They watched another movie before everyone went off to their own rooms, leaving Tony, Clint, and Natasha in the common room.
“So, Tony,” Clint started as he put his phone down.
Tony looked over at the man to let him know he was listening.
“I was talking to Laura, and she wants me to come back home for a weekend. If you would like, would you like to come? I mean, our kids can get to know each other. Two of mine are around Peter’s age. And it can give us a chance to bond,” Clint said.
Tony thought for a moment. He wasn’t expecting that. He’d never really been a family hangout type of person, but he would give it a try. It would be good for Peter to get to know Clint’s kids, and Tony and Clint could bond over being dads.
“Sure, I’d like to come, and I’m sure Peter would too,” Tony said with a small smile.
“Great, I’ll let Laura know,” Clint said, picking his phone back up.
“And, of course, I’ll be coming too,” Nat said with a smile.
“Right,” Tony said.
A few minutes later, Peter walked out of the elevator, rubbing his eyes and yawning wildly. Tony looked over at him and frowned.
“Pete, why are you awake, bud?” Tony asked as he got up and made his way over to Peter.
“I wanted a drink, then after I got my drink, I wanted to find you, but you’re still down here,” Peter told him through another yawn.
“Okay, well, you found me,” Tony said with a smile.
“Pete, how would you feel about going away for the weekend? Me, you, Clint, and Nat. Would you like that?” Tony asked.
“Uh-huh,” Peter said, looking around the room. Finding the other two his dad was talking about, he gave them a tired wave and smile.
“Great!” Tony said. Then his phone started ringing, so Peter went to go sit on the couch with Clint and Nat.
“So, Peter, you excited to go away for the weekend?” Clint asked with a smile.
“Uh-huh. Do you know where we’re going?” he asked, looking at the archer.
“Yep. We’re going to my farm and hanging out with my family. You get to meet my kids. I’m sure you’ll get along.”
“Oh, cool. Sounds cool, Clint.”
Clint smiled.
“Hey, how about you call me Uncle Clint? That’s only if you want to,” Clint told him.
“Yeah, I’d like that. Can I call you Aunt Nat?” he asked, looking at Nat.
Nat smiled softly.
“Yes, of course you can.”
Peter smiled and closed his eyes as he lay down on the couch. A few minutes later, Tony came back and crouched beside Peter, running a hand through his curls.
“Pete, come on, bubs. Time to go back to bed,” Tony said as he watched the boy peel his eyes open.
“Huh? Oh, okay. Night, Uncle Clint. Night, Aunt Nat,” Peter said as he stood.
Tony turned to grin at the two spies.
“Yes, good night, you two,” Tony said, his grin not leaving his face.
Tony led Peter to the elevator and went back to their floor. Tony led Peter to his room and gently lowered him onto the bed, tucking him in and pulling the blankets up to his chin. He then kissed the boy’s forehead.
“G’night, Dad,” Peter mumbled sleepily, his eyes already closed.
“Goodnight, buddy,” Tony said as he turned the light off and closed the door.
The weekend came along, and the small group boarded the Quinjet and made their way to the Barton family farm.
Tony helped buckle Peter in since it was his first time in the Quinjet. He ruffled the boy’s hair before taking his own seat. Nat took hers, while Clint was handling the aircraft.
The jet took off, and Peter was already looking out the window. The jet was in the clouds, and Peter was loving it.
“How long does it take to get to your farm, Uncle Clint?” Peter asked, peeling his face away from the window.
“Not that long. Should only take about 45 minutes,” Clint called out over his shoulder.
“Okay, cool.” Peter started swinging his legs and pulled out his phone.
Peter was only quiet for about 10 minutes before he called out to his dad.
“Dad. Can I use your phone?” he asked.
Tony looked over to him and raised an eyebrow.
“What’s wrong with your phone?” he asked.
“It’s dead. I forgot to charge it last night,” Peter groaned.
Tony rolled his eyes but tossed Peter his phone anyway. Peter caught it and started playing the games that he had downloaded the past times he’d played on his dad’s phone.
Time passed before Tony asked for his phone because they would be landing in a few minutes. Peter handed it back and went back to looking out the window.
The jet landed, and they got unbuckled and grabbed their bags before exiting to meet Clint’s family, who were standing in the yard waiting.
Laura and Clint shared a kiss. Laura then hugged Nat.
“And who might you be?” she asked Peter kindly while smiling.
“I’m Peter,” Peter said quietly.
Tony wrapped an arm around him. He knew Peter got nervous meeting new people, so he was hoping to ease the boy a little.
“Well, hello, Peter. It’s nice to meet you. I’m Laura, Clint’s wife.”
“It’s nice to meet you too,” Peter replied with a small smile.
“Pete,” Clint called over, and the boy made his way over.
Peter looked up at Tony. He received a nod, then went over to Clint.
“These are my kids. This is Cooper, he’s seventeen. That’s Lila, she’s thirteen. And this is Nate, he’s seven,” Clint introduced his kids.
The kids all said hi to each other, then just stood there in an awkward silence.
“Hey, how about you guys get to know each other while we fix up something to eat?” Clint suggested.
Everyone agreed, and the adults went inside while the kids ran along just past the barn.
“What’s wrong with your eyes?” Nate asked while they were walking.
Cooper whipped his head around to glare at his little brother for asking that type of question.
“Nate, you can’t just ask that,” Cooper told him.
“What? They don’t look like normal eyes.” He threw his arms up, gesturing how he felt.
Lila just whacked him on the arm, also giving him a little glare.
“Sorry about him,” Lila said, turning to look at Peter.
“It’s okay. I get it all the time.” Peter waved a hand.
“But genuine question, though. Why do they look like that?” Cooper asked kindly.
“I’m a mutant,” Peter told them.
The older Barton kids were silent for a moment, but Nate was the one to speak.
“You don’t seem mean or dangerous like they speak about mutants on the news,” he told him.
“Thanks. Most mutants aren’t dangerous. It’s just how people treat them. It’s only if you provoke them enough that they attack you,” Peter told them.
“Are you dangerous?” Cooper asked.
“I’m one of the ones that, if I get provoked, I can be dangerous,” Peter admitted.
“What are your powers?” Lila asked, curious.
“I’m a spider. Hence the eyes,” Peter said, pointing to his eyes.
“Cool. That means you must like to climb, yeah?” Cooper inquired.
Peter had a toothy grin.
“I love to climb. Why?” He cocked his head to the side when asking why.
“Wanna climb the tree we always climb up? It’s pretty tall,” Cooper said as they stopped next to the tree.
Peter looked up at the tall tree. He had climbed buildings as high as it when he had been out as Spider-Man. This would be easy.
“I would love to climb that tree,” Peter said.
They all started to climb the tree. Nate stayed pretty low, but the older kids went pretty high up.
Peter was the highest in the tree. He was about two branches higher than Cooper. He was about to climb onto a higher one, but his spider-sense started to tingle. He glanced around to see if he could see anything, but he couldn’t. So he shrugged.
He shifted so he could pull himself up, but then he heard the branch creak. Before he could do anything, he was falling.
“Oh, shit!” he cried as he fell.
He then hit the ground hard.
The others were already out of the tree and looking at him, lying on the ground, not moving or talking.
All three Barton kids were looking at Peter, who still hadn’t moved.
“Shit, Nate, go run and get help,” Cooper told his brother.
Nate immediately took off running towards the house.
“Peter, are you okay?” Cooper asked, placing a hand on the other boy’s shoulder gently.
Peter was struggling to suck in a full breath. He had the wind knocked out of him and couldn’t talk, so he settled on a slight nod.
Lila and Cooper looked at each other, concerned. They didn’t quite believe Peter because he had yet to move.
Back in the house, the adults had just finished making the food and were about to bring it out for the kids. But they were interrupted by Nate slamming the door open and running in yelling.
“Dad! Help, emergency! Peter fell out of the tree and isn’t moving!” he cried out.
All the adults instantly snapped their heads towards Nate. Tony, Clint, and Nat were already moving to go outside. Clint told Laura to stay with Nate.
The three adults ran over to see the two other kids kneeling on the ground next to Peter, looking worried.
Tony was the first one there, crouching down beside him and gently turning him onto his back. Peter winced a little.
“Pete, buddy, are you okay? Are you hurting?” Tony asked, his voice dripping with worry and concern.
Peter managed to suck in a breath.
“E-everything kinda hurts. B-but my arm hurts the most. And my head hurts,” Peter gritted out, his voice sounding pained.
“You hit your head?” Tony asked, sounding even more worried.
Peter nodded. Tony carefully took Peter’s head in his hands, looking at the scraps and dirt on his face.
“You dizzy?” Tony asked, trying to find out if his boy had a concussion.
“No. I don’t think I have a concussion. It’s just a small ache. I didn’t hit that hard,” Peter told him.
He tried to sit up, and Tony helped him.
“Easy, kiddo.”
“Cooper, can you run inside and go get the first-aid kit, please?” Clint asked his son.
Tony helped take Peter’s hoodie off so he could look for any hidden injuries. His hands and arms were bleeding. He also looked at Peter’s legs, of which only one knee was bleeding, while there was nothing else.
He could handle patching this up. I mean, he’d had to patch Peter up from worse as Spider-Man, but this still freaked him out since it happened when he was Peter. Not Spider-Man.
Cooper came running back, handing the kit to his dad.
“Okay, thanks, Coop. Can you and Lila go back inside, please?” Clint asked as he opened the kit.
Cooper wanted to protest, but the look his dad was giving him made him agree to go inside with his sister.
Peter leaned forward and put his face in his dad’s chest. Tony rubbed his back.
“Okay, bud. We gotta patch you up. Can you look at me so we can clean your face?” Tony said after a few moments of holding Peter close to him.
Peter moved his face from his dad’s chest and looked up at him.
Tony took a wet wipe and started to wipe the dirt off Peter’s face while Clint and Nat cleaned his legs and arms.
Once the dirt was all cleaned off, Tony started to clean his scrapes, starting with his face.
“This is going to sting a little, Pete,” Tony said before wiping his cuts on his face with antiseptic.
Once it touched one of the scrapes, Peter hissed, his fangs flashing. He hated that stuff. He was very sensitive to it.
“I hate that stuff,” Peter muttered, pouting a little.
“I know. But it has to be done so they don’t get infected,” Tony explained.
“So, I heal fast,” Peter argued.
“Yes, you heal fast, but they can still get infected, bug,” Tony shot back gently.
“How fast can he heal, Tony?” Nat asked as she crouched next to Peter.
“Pretty fast. Faster than Steve. These will probably be healed in about an hour,” Tony told her.
“Wow, little spider. You’re really remarkable, huh?” she said as she brushed a curl from the boy’s forehead, and he smiled.
Peter kept his fangs showing whenever Tony was dabbing his scrapes. Peter was all patched up and was pulled from the ground by Clint while Tony picked up the bandage wrappers to throw them away.
“Alright, let’s head inside and get some food.”
The weekend went by, and the kids got along perfectly. They loved seeing how Peter’s powers worked, and Peter liked how they didn’t seem to be freaked out or afraid of him.
They boarded the Quinjet to go back to the compound. They took off, and Peter was looking out the window.
“So, did you have fun, squirt?” his dad asked.
“Apart from falling out of the tree, I did have fun,” Peter smiled.
Tony smiled and ruffled Peter’s hair.
“I’m glad you had fun,” Tony smiled back.
Peter rested his head on his dad’s shoulder and watched what he was doing on his phone while waiting to be home.
