Summary
One hundred seconds after first spotting the drowning victim, Chuuya reaches them. He hooks an arm beneath the boy’s shoulder, slips off the rescue board, and hauls them onto it.
Rolling his eyes back, the boy, a brunette around Chuuya’s age, begins to cough violently.
Righting himself on the side of the board, Chuuya screams into the boy’s ear.
“I’ve got you! Hey, I’ve got you! Look at me!”
The boy dejectedly flops his head over his shoulder facing Chuuya, stoic brown eyes meeting crystal blue in defeat.
“I made it. Damn.”
