Chapter 1: What can I say, Spidey is kinda hot..

Chapter Text

-

“Breaking News! A new addition to our neighborhood has just made an appearance, with the name Spider-Man! Don’t be alarmed if you see him swinging around the city!”

-

Megumi was already awake, having woken up extra early completely by accident. The feeling of anxiety creeping through his body at the thought of learning a new place, and meeting new people. He had always been an anxious guy, but he would never admit that out loud. Especially when it came to starting college, and he had been swearing up and down since he got into university that it was ‘no big deal’. He stood in his bathroom fixing his hair in the mirror before loading up his favorite cross-body bag with some of his textbooks. That’s when he hears his guardian, Satoru Gojo, leaping up the stairs and rambling about how excited he is that Megumi is starting school today. Clearly skipping the last few steps with his freakishly long legs

“Today is the start of our beloved Megumi Fushiguro’s new life!”

The slight sound of Gojo going on and on about his pride in Megumi and how much he loves him is heard clearly through the walls that Megumi’s wished were just a little bit thicker. He didn’t want to get emotional. Not now. Not when they were about to leave.

As the sound of Gojo’s footsteps grow closer, Megumi lets out a soft sigh as he walks through his bedroom and opens the door before Gojo has time to knock.

“Oh, Gumi! You’re up early.” Gojo stands in the doorway with a big smile, his fist clenched and in the air as if he was going to knock on the door just seconds before. “I’m up. No need to shout. We still have half an hour..” Megumi squeezes between the door and Gojo, making his way downstairs where the aroma of freshly baked muffins fills his nostrils. “You don’t usually get yourself up! Now we don’t have to rush for once.” Gojo says as he follows his son into the kitchen.

Megumi enters first, revealing Gojo’s ‘best friend’ Suguru Geto holding said muffins. They were still hot, Geto holding them with oven mitts as he lets his warm smile linger in the air. “Good morning Megumi! make sure to take some of these with you. They're your favorite!”

Geto was always over, especially in the mornings. Megumi liked that, since Geto wasn’t a particularly loud person he found himself getting very comfortable around him quickly. Gojo will tell you they’re friends, but Megumi catches the way they look at each other. All the times he’s caught a glimpse of Gojo wrapping only his pinky finger around Geto’s, not knowing they’ve already been caught.

Megumi has chosen not to say anything, wanting them to have some sort of privacy since they don’t meddle in his love life… too much.

Before anything else is said, Gojo’s long arms are wrapped around Megumi’s shoulders. “My beloved son, how do you feel today? Are you anxious? Sad? Do you need me to walk you inside the building?-“

Geto’s soft laughter interrupts Gojo, “I think he can handle walking in without us Satoru. He’s an adult.” Megumi lets himself breathe, secretly thankful that Geto had basically just read his mind.

With a hesitant groan Gojo releases Megumi. “Can’t a father just love his son?” The dramatic tone of his voice, and the fake crying makes Megumi groan as he pinches the bridge of his nose. “If you don’t stop, I'm going to leave your annoying ass here.” He grabs some of the muffins that Geto had put into a container for him, and heads to the front door. Gojo rushes to grab his keys, beating Megumi out the door and hopping into his car. Geto follows behind them, the smile he had worn moments before still lingering on his lips.

“Bye kiddo! have a good day, and try to make some friends!” Geto leans on the doorframe as he watches his not-so-secret lover and Megumi get into the car. waving goodbye as they drive off.

The car ride was quiet. Megumi liked only hearing the sound of the city around him, letting his emerald tinged eyes fall shut as the warm morning sun hit his face. Despite the quiet, he can feel emotions radiating off of Gojo. He slightly opens one eye, seeing Gojo grip the steering wheel tighter.

Worried?

Scared?

Proud?

Anxious?

“You don’t have to worry Gojo. I’ll be fine. I’m not a little kid anymore. Plus I'll call you every chance I get.” Now keeping his eyes closed, Megumi speaks softly to his father. Father. He thinks to himself, ‘when was the last time I was away from Gojo?’ and no matter how hard Megumi thought, and how far he went back in his mind he couldn’t remember even one time he was away from Gojo.

“I know you’ll be fine- I just.. I’ll miss you Gumi. I know you’re not far away and you’ll stay in touch, but I can't get over this heavy feeling in my heart. it’s going to be really quiet while you’re gone..”

Fuck. Megumi really didn’t want to get emotional. Like he’d been saying all morning ‘not now.’ They were barely five minutes from the building. “Not if you have me over as often as you’ve been saying. Every Sunday was it?” Megumi tries to lighten the mood, seeing Gojo slightly relax.

“So you do want to come over every Sunday! I knew you wanted to!” It was surprisingly easy to make Gojo happy again, seeing the genuine smile on his lips took away the lingering anxiety Megumi had been feeling all throughout the morning.

-

Once they made it to the college, Gojo parks the car and unloads the last two of Megumi’s bags, setting the smaller one on top of an equally small suitcase. Megumi collects himself and stuffs his hands into the pockets of his baggy jeans. “So.. I'll text you when I'm all settled in? I've got a lot of unpacking to do today..”

Without another word, Gojo is tightly embracing his son. Megumi can hear soft sniffles from his shoulder, taking this as his sign to comfort him. “Dad.. I promise I’ll be fine..” Gojo stiffens slightly. Megumi rarely calls Gojo ‘dad’ and when he does it still doesn’t fail to send shock all throughout Gojo’s body.

“I’m telling Geto you called me dad..” Gojo says softly, laughing as Megumi gently pushes him away. “Don’t you dare. He won’t let me hear the end of it…” Megumi tries to sound annoyed, crossing his arms and groaning but he’s careful, knowing Gojo is still upset and doesn’t want to end up hurting his feelings.

“Oh I so will. You’ll be hearing about it forever, Gumi.” With that, Gojo gets into his car. “I love you Gumi! make good choices!” he waves out the window but he doesn’t drive off, waiting for a response. “Are you serious..” Megumi turns to grab his things. “Oh come on! Say it back! ‘I love you dad!’”

A groan loud enough to be heard from the other side of the parking lot emerges from Megumi, who turns around reluctantly. “..I love you…dad.” he says it quietly enough for Gojo to hear but when Megumi hears the teasing and the ‘say it louder’ from Gojo, he grabs his stuff and speed walks towards the building, an annoyed look on his face.

The college seems bigger now that it’s just him. Megumi grabs an orientation packet showing all the resources he could possibly need, his room number, and his roommate's name. ‘Toge Inumaki’ Megumi groans at the thought of having to meet someone new.

He scans the packet, reading his schedule and getting so caught up in his internal complaining, that he doesn’t have time to move away when someone on a skateboard crashes right into him. Thankfully the person had ditched the board just before colliding with Megumi, the impact not hurting as bad as it would have. The stranger surprisingly catches them both, grabbing Megumi’s arms and steading them in the same motion.

“Holy shit!- I’m so sorry!” a male voice says while letting go of him. “I didn’t see you behind that crowd of people until it was too late..” Megumi looks down and meets a pair of gorgeous light brown eyes. The man is barely shorter than him, his eyes meeting the bridge of Megumi’s nose. They practically glow in the early afternoon sun.

The man has pink hair. Almost a washed out pink and spikey on top, the sides by his ears are dark brown and much shorter than the rest. He wears a baggy graphic tee along with a pair of jorts that hang low on his hips and fall passed his knees. “It’s okay. No biggie.” Megumi finally says, the boy dramatically sighing and smiling widely “Phew! I thought for sure you hated my guts just then!”

“My name is Yuji Itadori! I just enrolled!” This guy was insanely happy and full of energy for it barely being the afternoon. He extends his hand for a handshake, and Megumi slowly accepts. “Megumi Fushiguro.” he says flatly.

“Yuji! Are you talking to a girl?!” a shorter girl with a brown bob appears behind Yuji. “And why would I be a girl?” Megumi answers for Yuji, his usual bite back in his voice. damned girl name.

The girl scoffs, smiling smugly as she links arms with Yuji. “Because you have a girls name mr. emo! Yuji! stay away from this man! he’s going to steal your light!!-” Megumi feels as though steam is coming out of his ears. “Nobara! That’s rude. Apologize to this tall man!” Yuji defends childishly, standing in front of Megumi, causing this so-called ‘nobara’ to gasp dramatically.

“Sorry about that Fushiguro! I thought you were nice! She’s just blunt.-”

“I won’t apologize!” Nobara interrupts and Megumi just groans.

“Okay, okay. Itadori was it? It was nice to meet you, but I need to go to my dorm.” Megumi says calmly, pulling his small suitcase with him as he walks away.

“Oh! Wait! What’s your room number? And what building? Nobara, I'll catch you later! Maki should be here soon!” Yuji shouts as he grabs his skateboard and catches up with Megumi, leaving his friend pouting at his exit. “I have to find mine too so I thought it would be fun if we found them together!”

Megumi glances over at Yuji, he was still smiling. Something about this stranger made him feel weirdly comfortable and he didn’t like it. “Building two, room fifty three.”

Yuji stops in his tracks, his jaw dropped as he stares at his own orientation packet. “Dude! Holy shit! What a huge coincidence! Same building but my room is fifty two!”

Megumi slumps as Yuji keeps talking about anything and everything he can think of.

“What’s your major Fushiguro?”

“Not sure yet. Maybe Neuroscience.” Megumi says flatly.

“Wow, that's cool. You must be smart, smart! I’m in exercise science! How old are you?” Yuji kicks some rocks as they walk.

“I turn twenty in December.-“

“Wow! We’re closer in age than I thought! I turn twenty in March!” Yuji interrupts excitedly.

Megumi sighs as he keeps letting Yuji talk. His social battery draining rapidly.

“Do you like sports?” Yuji hops back on his skate board following alongside Megumi carefully.

“Do I look like I like sports? No.” Megumi glances at Yuji. ‘He seems really coordinated actually.. and pretty strong.’ Megumi shrugs the thought away.

“You got a girlfriend? I don’t. But I like tall girls, or guys, with a nice big ass.” Yuji draws out the word ‘nice’, talking with his hands as if describing the shape. Yuji’s confidence makes Megumi give him a double-take.

“Are you serious? You’ve known me for maybe ten minutes, why should I need to know that?” Megumi lets his eyes drift to the pavement below, and when he doesn’t answer the question, Yuji stares.

“Sooo.. girlfriend?” Yuji tries again.

“Absolutely not.” Megumi replies without looking away from the ground.

“….boyfriend?” Yuji asks with his eyes wide and filled with curiosity.

“NO!-“ Megumi says a bit too loud. His ears flush slightly as he clears his throat, repeating himself. “No.”

“I mean, it’s cool if you like dudes. Nobara likes girls, and i get the best of both worlds if ya know what i mean. So.. I support you!” Yuji says while giving Megumi a supportive thumbs up and a smile.

‘Best of both- what?’

“I said I'm not gay. Don't ask me again.”

Megumi was in fact gay. He’s known since high-school, but has kept it on the DL since then. He didn’t want to risk getting bullied for it. Even though he knows that he shouldn’t care. Gojo has asked before, but Megumi couldn’t give him a straight answer. Gojo should be the one he could tell about his sexuality, but he can’t bring himself to say anything out loud. He's not in denial.. just very deep in the closet.

They finally make it to the dormitories. Finding Building two and heading inside. Megumi knew their rooms were right next to each other, but because of how the dorm building is set up, they quite literally share a whole wall. Then, depending on what sides of the dorm they choose their bedrooms would share a wall as well.

“fun..” Megumi whispers as he opens his room door, and just his luck. He sees that his roommate has already set up his side of the dorm. Which is kind of his fault since he had just piled boxes on top of each other in the corner of the room and just hoped he’d get here first today. A piece of paper hung from the door on the right from the living room with the name ‘Inumaki’ on it. Which means Megumi is now left with the room on the left and has to share a wall with Yuji’s dorm.

He can see it already. Getting woken up in the middle of the night, hearing the bickering between roommates. Yuji’s loud voice slipping through the wall for no reason. He’s already dreading it.

Suddenly Megumi’s new roommate enters the living area along with someone else, waving silently. “Hi! I'm Yuta Okkotsu! You must be Toge’s roommate!” The tall dark haired man extends his hand, Megumi taking it for a friendly hand shake.

He looks at Inumaki and expects a ‘hello’ but sees him using what looks like sign language to communicate with the other boy. As if sensing Megumi’s confusion, Okkotsu speaks up. “Oh! Toge is mute. So he uses a lot of sign language. Or if you’re comfortable, exchanging phone numbers helps him with communication as well!”

“Well it’s nice to meet you, Okkotsu. Inumaki.. I’m Megumi Fushiguro.” he sees a warm smile coming from Inumaki. He’s shorter than him and Okkotsu. Just meeting slightly above their shoulders. His cheeks are stained with a very faint tinge of pink when he smiles, making Megumi return the kindness instantly with a smile of his own.

“Yo! Fushiguro!- wait..Inumaki?! Wow, good to see you!” Yuji enters their room and runs right up to Inumaki, wrapping him in a quick hug. “It’s been forever man! I'm so glad you go here too! I live next door!” Inumaki nods and you can see the admiration lingering in his eyes for his friend.

While Yuji is distracted, Megumi finds some boxes of his and moves them into his room. He hears that the Okkotsu guy leaves, and everything is somehow louder that way because of Yuji. He slowly unpacks his things, getting his pillows and blankets out and lays them out on his bed. He puts all of his books on the desk provided by the college, going out to get more boxes when he sees Yuji frantically run out the door.

“He okay?” Megumi asks Inumaki. not necessarily to get an answer but he ends up receiving a shrug anyways. “Did you want my phone number? I don’t know much sign language..” Megumi says as he holds out his phone awkwardly. ‘is this awkward? oh god i think it’s awkwar-‘ Inumaki takes the device and types in his number, texting himself and giving back Megumi’s phone.

Inumaki holds up his own phone after responding to Megumi’s message, giving a thumbs up up. “Cool. I’m gonna keep unpacking, but text me what you want for dinner. It’s on me tonight.” Megumi says with a slight smile. Inumaki tries to protest, shaking his head. “Hey I already offered.” Megumi laughs, and Inumaki gives up and signs a quick ‘thank you’ in defeat, which Megumi understands and he goes back to unpacking.

As he’s ripping another box open, he hears something heavy hit the ground on the other side of his wall. ‘What the fuck was that?’ a series of other loud noises follow shortly after. It sounds like someone’s rummaging through drawers. Megumi debates going to check on Yuji but decides against it. That’s when he hears what sounds like a window slam open and more thumps before it’s silent.

‘weird’ Megumi thinks as he runs his fingers through the spikes of his hair that he created earlier that morning, smoothing them out gently.

-

Late that night Megumi lays down to go to sleep, when a loud noise has him shooting out of bed and grasping his chest. It sounded like someone fell right off their bed. But the sound of a window closing has Megumi’s mind flooding with confusing questions. He groans as he drags himself out of bed, marching over to Yuji’s room to ask him to shut up. The hallway is cold but the breeze from under Yuji’s door is impossibly colder.

Megumi knocks on the door three loud times before the door opens, and the sight shocks him. Yuji stands there in a baggy t-shirt that seems to have been put on in a rush, the neckline stretched beyond saving revealing the boy's collarbone and half of his shoulder as he leans against his door frame.

A loose pair of basketball shorts hang on for dear life around his hips like his jorts did earlier. His hair is all messy, flat in most places but still spikey in the front from him trying to fix it. A few drops of sweat drip from Yuji’s forehead as his irregular breathing starts to steady. ‘damn’ Megumi has to blink himself back to reality, realizing he’s said nothing. Then remembers why none of that was the shocking part.

Yuji had a decently sized cut on his cheek, a dark purple bruise forming around it. But as Megumi scans the rest of Yuji, he catches a few more cuts along his knuckles and his forehead. “Itadori? What happened?” The question has Yuji laughing nervously. “Would you believe me if I said it was a cat?” The response has Megumi sighing. “Come on. I won’t ask again, but that cut needs treatment.”

Megumi rushes into his own room, bringing a small first aid kit Gojo insisted on bringing with him. Though this time he’s glad he listened to him and stuffed it in his bag. When Megumi returns, Yuji's door is left cracked, he opens the door and sees the hurt boy standing in the kitchen. “Take this.” He pushes the first aid kit towards Yuji, turning around immediately to go back to his bed and sleep.

“Wait! Fushiguro! Thank you..” Yuji says his voice full of sincerity.

“Do you know how to tend to the cuts?” Megumi asks without thinking ‘Please say yes. I’m so tired.-‘

“I should be okay.” Yuji fidgets with the first aid kit.

“Also, please try and keep it down. I can hear everything on your side of the wall.” Megumi says nicer than he intended to. He leaves shortly after saying that, longing for his bed. He drags his feet into his room and plops face down onto his pillow, curling into a ball before drifting off to sleep. To his surprise, Yuji did try to keep it down. Only soft thuds heard every now and then.

‘What's up with this guy..’

-

The next morning comes too quickly. Megumi groans in annoyance as he lazily reaches across his desk to turn his alarm off. After successfully muting the annoying sound he checks his social media, which is filled with news articles and what looks like fan pages?

‘The new superhero who goes by the name ‘Spider-Man’ just spotted for the third time this week, helping out with multiple robberies!’

‘Spider-Man’ leaves towns shocked as he leaves a dozen criminals hanging from a cocoon of webs, after attempted robbery!’

‘Who is this new hero? Who is he truly under the mask?’

Megumi continues to scroll, seeing the new so-called hero in all his glory. The man was insanely built, His black and red suit tightly clinging onto the curves of his muscles. His suit had a red base with black markings all over the torso.

‘oh wow.’ Megumi thinks to himself, coming across a quick fifteen second interview of the new hero. He seemed to be in a rush, hanging upside down as he talked to the public. The four eyes of his mask showing the emotions in his face as he answered the questions. As if they tracked his real eyes. ‘This guy's a major dork.. kind of a really hot dork..’ Megumi blushes and turns his phone off as Spider-Man is zipping away at the end of the video.

He ignores his previous thought and gets himself ready for class, waving at Inumaki as he leaves their dorm.

While walking to class, every person Megumi walked past was talking about Spider-Man. There were crowds of people hovering around TV’s where his recent sightings were being talked about on the news. Some people already came up with some DIY merch and were trying to sell it in the hallways. ‘All of this for some dorky superhero..’

Megumi’s whole day ends up involving the new hero. Even his homeroom teacher was talking about him, pulling up a new ‘interview’ which was just a few news reporters chasing him down the block as he swung away on what appears to be a web.

As the hours go by and the sun starts to set, the sound of students talking became impossibly louder as Megumi makes his way outside and squeezes through a couple groups of people. One person yelling loudly above everyone’s voices

“It’s Spider-Man! Look!”

Megumi looks where all the students are pointing and just misses him. Seeing a black and red blob swing behind a building. With that being over with, Megumi heads back to his dorm. Inumaki sends a message saying he would be going out with that Okkotsu guy and that he’d be back late.

As the door shuts behind Megumi, he finally gets to sit in some much needed silence. He opens the window in the living room, and grabs a few textbooks along with a snack before settling on the couch to study.

Megumi lets himself settle into the soft couch of his dorm's living room. Curling up in a blanket as he reviews the notes he took from his classes, finally getting the peace and quiet he’s been hoping for since classes ended.

As he flips through his notes and tries to memorize a few things, he hears some commotion outside. He ignores it as he  sets his study material down and reaches for his snack, A toasted bagel.

Before Megumi can take a bite, a figure crashes through his living room window somewhat gracefully. But landing with the top half of his body bent over the side of the couch. Obviously in pain. Before Megumi can verbally react, he throws his bagel at the intruder, hitting him right on the top of his head.

”Ouch! What the fuck?-“

Megumi runs and turns the main light on, and what he sees shocks him to his core.

A very fit man who the whole town had been raving about the past few days without Megumi knowing. Stands in his living room, rubbing the spot on his head where the bagel hit him.

“who the fuck are you?!”
