Notes:

hello, dear reader. this is the first time I'll ever be publishing anything I've ever wrote that wasn't for a class assignment. that being said, i love me some criticism. so if you do end up having critiques, make sure to point them out like a teacher. feel free to even give me a grade. I'm more submitting it here to have a way of saving it without having to keep it in a notes app, but it can always be a learning experience too

this is a serarev fic. shocking, I'm sure, if you hadn't already read the title. the newest episode as of right now, season 2 episode 5 (ifykyk) sparked me to actually start uploading what I have been writing since the beginnings of season 1. I have been on this ship since it was but a small dinghy and I will continue to be here even after the great possibility of revbella. nevertheless, i write this. as i do, ill be thinking of what direction i want it to take because the original ended on where i am ending this first chapter. let the possibilities plague your mind

plaguing aside, i do hope you enjoy my finest mess yet

Chapter 1: Having a guardian angel sucks when you're trying to kill yourself.

Chapter Text

Rehabilitation 101. The WORST class in this entire school by a nautical mile. Rev hated every single second of it and that especially included the walk there. Having to trudge his way out of Alchemy was bad enough, so why did it have to lead into this?! It was that damn principal's fault, he just knew it... After cursing under his breath, Rev walked by an open window and stopped for a second. Slowly peeking over the windowsill, his eyes lit up with opportunity. A big statue of a knight, with it's lance pointing straight up. Up enough that it would be easy to 'accidentally fall' and impale yourself. How horrible... He might even have to skip class and go to the nurse... Thinking of all the free time that would give him to think, Rev began climbing over and sat on the edge for a second, bracing himself to die before letting himself slip and fall. But the impact...never came. Instead he felt arms holding him in the air. Opening his eyes, he looked up to see a familiar angel's face looking down at him. "Wha- Sera?! What the hell's your-" Before he could continue to contest her, he felt a gust of wind around them and before Rev knew it, they were in class. His head snapped to Sera, who was acting like she didn't just ruin one of his attempts. And as if the world didn't want Rev Vennet to get a word in today, an all too familiar grating voice started basically yelling at him from the steps up to their seats. "Rev?! You're actually here?! AND ON TIME????" God, he's as loud as ever. Looking over at him, Rev felt like he needed shades. His sunshine-like aura isn't really fitting of a vampire who'd die in it. "Yeah, well I wouldn't even be here if S-" A kick to his shin interrupted him, as his head snapped back towards his "guardian angel" with the meanest face he could muster. She continued staring off at the front of the class nonchalantly, much to the revenant's dismay. "Oho, well if you wanna race, buddy, you're ON!" Mark's smile nearly blinded Rev. How could he be so happy in a hellhole like this?

Like Mark said, however, he was on time. It almost made Rev look like a good student. which was something he was desperately avoiding. So he checked if the professor was looking, and began to get up to ditch the worthless class. Well, he WAS, but Sera grabbed his arm instead. "You're already here. There's no point in leaving. He'll just appear in the hall like he did on the first day." He looked down at her, in complete shock. Usually she'd be right behind him in leaving somewhere they didn't want to be, so what's with this switch-up?! "Don't you also hate it here? Let go of me, angel, let's just both leave!", yelled Rev. Unfortunately, he said it loud enough at the right time where everyone else seemed to quiet down. Professor Lovecraft cleared his throat before addressing them. "Mr. Vennet, could you not plan your escape so loud... Some children in this class are trying to learn. Just because you aren't, it doesn't mean that you should shout in my classroom" Along with the professor's callout, Rev heard a laugh possibly more irritating than Mark's. Wendy turned around in her chair and grinned towards the revenant and his guardian angel. "Yeah, zombie boy! Some of us are actually trying to learn!" Faced with the most amount of bullshit he's heard all day, Rev slammed his hands on the table in protest. "You stay out of this, wendigo! And I find it very hard to believe that YOU of all people are trying to learn!!", Rev shouted some more which unknowingly sealed his fate in this argument. Turning around fully in her chair, Wendy's smile only grew wider. "Then how the hell did I get a better score on the empathy test, Rev?!" As he got a sudden flashback of the scoreboard he saw outside class, Rev's eye twitched with rage before he groaned, sat his ass back down and slammed his head down onto the desk hard enough to knock himself out for the class.

When he finally woke up, he was laying down somewhere in the dark. Somewhere not very big. Not knowing exactly what confined space he was trapped in, he turned his head to the side only to be face-to-face with a smiling vampire. "Hi roomie!!" Rev screamed, tried to escape the coffin with his face and slammed it into the coffin's lid with a resounding thud. Acting like that didn't happen, he used his arm this time and crawled out completely furious. Mark, on the other hand, curiously rose his head up to look over the side of his bed at his best friend. Rev met his questioning face with rage. "WHAT THE HELL IS YOUR PROBLEM?!" Mark leaned over the edge and laid his head on his crossed arms, humming. "Well, you knocked yourself out in class and wouldn't wake up so I brought you to our room. Your bed seemed a little... occupied so I just put you in my coffin! But then I wanted to lay down too..." Rev had far too many questions after that answer but first, what the hell did he mean by occupied?! Rev turned to look at what was taking up space on his bed and he found... Raven. His cat. "You didn't put me on my OWN bed because my CAT WAS ON IT? 𝘔𝘠 CAT?!" Mark nodded, too happy looking for someone who was getting yelled at. Rev sighed, pinching his nose bridge before looking at the time. They were still on lunch, which only infuriated Rev more as he looked back at the vampire. "Did you ever think to lay down somewhere else?! We're in the one period we get where we can actually explore this prison!" Mark stared at him, dumbfounded as he processed everything. "I guess I didn't think about it! Whoops!" Rev could feel his undead blood boil, gripping at the grimoire in his pocket. He might actually kill him, and he probably would have if Raven didn't jump on his back as she got off the bed. With that, all Rev had the energy to do now was groan on the floor and put his head in his hands. Mark watched his obviously stressed out pal and a lightbulb formed over the vampire's head. "You want me to go get you something from the cafeteria while it's still open? I think there's something good today!" Rev continued being exhausted on the floor and thought it was a great way to get Mark out of the room, even if it was just for a few minutes. "Yeah, sure..." Mark's eyes glistened with joy as he raced out of the room towards the cafeteria. Rev took this time to crawl into his bed and finally start thinking of his next way to get back at the principal when someone knocked at the door. 'There's no way he's that quick...' Rev thought before dragging himself up out of bed and to the door. Opening up the door, he was met with shock as Sera stood there about to knock again. "Oh, good." Sera walked right past Rev, leaving him speechless on how little she's talking about what is going on. Turning to the angel, he grabbed her shoulder from the door. "Hey, what are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be in the cafeteria? Or maybe your OWN dorm room?!" Sera looked at him like he had three heads, which wouldn't be that crazy in this school, but he didn't. Sera fully turned to him and shrugged. "I just wanted to talk to you. Is that a crime?" With a tilt of the head, Rev scowled before rolling his eyes. "...No" With that answer, Sera grabbed both of Rev's shoulders and held him still. She had an almost serious expression on, far more then her usual deadpan stares. "Don't try and kill yourself anymore." Rev was a bit worried to say the least. This was completely out of nowhere, and he didn't think she'd be the one to say that first. He was always thinking Mark would. Rev couldn't help but crack an arrogant smile. "Why, angel? Am I making your guardian job too hard?" Sera didn't answer. She almost looked disappointed. "No." Sera pulled him closer and quickly kissed him. A kiss warm enough to melt a cold corpse like Rev. Before he could think about pulling away, she did first. Sera let go of him and walked out the door, just in time for Mark to open it. "Oh hey Sera! What are you doing here?" The angel stopped in front of him with her face down, almost whispering. "Nothing." Before Mark could say much else, she walked past him and down the hall. The vampire just thought Sera was being herself so he walked in with two plates of fish. "Hey, roomie! I got some fish! I figured this is the best choice because if you don't like it, you could give it to Raven!" Rev was frozen in place. He had been since they met lips. Mark, confused as to why he hasn't said anything yet, walked around to look at Rev's face to find his face blue. The same color of his blood. And as Sera teleported back to the girl's dorm building, she had a golden yellow on her cheeks to match.
