Work Text:
May's had a bad day. She woke up two hours early this morning to find that Peter had twisted his ankle during patrol last night and decided to 'sleep it off.' Then of course work was terrible, she got there late and ended up having to work a double, so she was exhausted by the time she got home. And she hasn't gotten paid yet this week, so she had to choose between ordering herself dinner, or getting Peter enough food to actually sustain him—because she she was not cooking after all of that. Obviously, she decided get Peter his second meal. He's injured, and growing, she'll survive.
Now Peter's eaten and May's finally managed to shoo him off to bed. May herself has eaten a banana, which is all she's got the energy to prepare herself right now.
The plan had been to put on a romcom and probably end up falling asleep on the couch, but of course there's a knock at the door. At 9:30 at night. Because she can't fucking win today. If it's her neighbor coming to complain about the noise again, May might actually hurt somebody. Her TV is practically muted. She can't even hear it.
May groans, pushing herself off the couch and walking to the door. The first thing she sees when she opens it is flowers. A (far too large, in May's opinion) bouquet of roses.
"Red roses for a blue lady."
May smiles a little, for the first time today, as Tony holds them out to her. "Dean Martin. Cute."
"I've been told I'm adorable," he replies, letting her take them. "I was also told you had a rough day—"
"And who are you getting this information from?" May walks away into the apartment to grab a vase.
Tony follows her inside, shutting and locking the door behind him. "Peter. He also said you probably haven't eaten. So.." May looks over just in time for him to reveal the container of food he'd been holding behind his back. "It is, uh, some kind of pasta dish? I actually don't know. Rhodey's sister made it. She was making me take some home anyways, then I got the text from Pete, so I thought I'd just bring it here for you." Tony grins at her.
"Oh, Tony, you didn't have to—"
"Shut up and let me be nice," Tony cuts off, making May laugh. "You go sit down, rest, I'll heat it up for you."
As much as May would prefer not to leave Tony alone in her kitchen…. she really would like to sit down and rest. "Okay," she sighs, "thanks, hon."
"'Course." Tony stops her as she walks past him, pulling her into a quick sidehug. He presses a kiss to her temple, muttering a 'love you' against it. "Now go."
"Going," she waves him off, heading back to her couch. She can faintly hear Tony start humming in the kitchen as he goes about preparing her food.
