Summary
Ryland Grace, the molecular biologist sent to the stars to save Earth, who made first contact with a wonderful alien, putting the puzzle that is his life before confinement on the Hail Mary together, and all that comes with doing that. Fractured pieces cut the pads of his fingers like glass. He's not sure he'll like the end result, but he's desperate just to know who he was.
For a moment, he only squeezes his wet eyes shut, lips pulled into a grimace. His skin feels raw and itchy. Every point of contact too much and not right and—What could he say? That he is not who he thought he was, and not who Rocky thinks he is, that he is a monster disguised as the savior. A character in a story who never deserved such a thing.
