Chapter 1: Chapter 1

Chapter Text

The pedestal in where the FireBrand was planted now sat empty and the blade it was harbouring was now in the hands of a very pissed off Captain.

The platform was decorated with riches scattered on the floor gemstones, coins all of it seemingly priceless and value uncountable, this could change the lives of some many people for the better.

But gold doesn't mean a goddamn thing when you're actively fighting for your life and feeling emotions that were hard to name.

Maybe she was feeling all of them, betrayal from both the supposed 'hero' and the captain who treated her like a daughter, fear for the safety of all of them, and anger towards everyone for doing the exact thing that they were warned not to do.

Heat pricked her skin but Calypso doesn't care she was so done with all of this, the pirate don't wanna fight the captain but he just wouldn't listen this was exactly what the glyphs was trying to tell them.

She tried to reason she really did but it was too late he held the accursed sword.

Calypso was torn, Trotter said the hero was just using them and was a traitor but she doesn't fully believe that.

Somehow that was enough of a reason for him to assume that she was also betraying.

Player stood behind her limping expression unreadable if there even was one, all of them were hurt to an extent after the scuffled.

Player definitely suffered the worst but they seemed unbothered by it.

"NO, s-stay away from me..." Trotter said still angry but knows that he couldn't win this.

"Cap'n PLEASE, you need to listen to us you're just..." Trotter didn't give her time to finish.

"Why, why do I keep hearin' these sounds? these here, Voices!?" he asked more to himself than them.

Both Calypso and Player jump back a bit from shock.

"Cap'n you need to get away from the sword! the FireBrand is.." she tried to warned him.

"N-no, NO, m-my eye I can see it"

"Through this here blade, I know what ye BOTH be plottin' ye two had KILLED me LOYAL CREW!"

The right hand was hurt by the accusations "Cap'n back away from the blade".

"NEVER, the ANCIENTS prophesized to the sky fer this here moment!".

"A SACRIFICE coated in INNOCENT BLOOD, if one o' us 'ah to DIE for us to escape, THEN SO BE IT!!" The captain declared.

"N-no" Calypso couldn't believe any of this is actually happening.

The captain reaches for the FireBrand taking it in his hand then lunged at them planning on finishing them off and avenging his crew, Calypso however saw this coming and got a hold of Trotter's arm.

She then kicked him away hard sending the captain tumbling backwards and he fell down into the fiery pit of molten lava below.

I morbid sound could be heard from below, a sickening splash of the lava and the liquid engulfing and dissolving the poor unfortunate soul.

It took both of them a moment to realize the gravity of the situation "What have I done?" Calypso have to fight against nausea to keep herself upright.

--

"Calypso?" her younger sister called out to her but she didn't react, Player who was closer to the former pirate walked over and hesitantly put a hand on her shoulder.

Calypso was forced out of her thought by a cold feeling on her shoulder, Calp looked over to see the savior with a worried expression, she swore Player's charcoal eyes showed a tint of purple in them but the former pirate must've imagining it because it disappeared a second later.

"Calypso are you okay? I called your name a few times but you didn't respond" Her little sister, Kyoko bare the same emotions that Player had just a moment ago concern clear on her face.

Calypso looked pass Player and response to Kyoko "Yeah l'm fine just gettin' a bit lost back there or sum,,," she mumbles, they're cleaning out the old pirate camp because they can't risk anyone else finding it and also just grabbing some of Calypso's stuff.

"Are you sure you don't wanna hang back or let me and Player handle this?" said Kyoko "I mean sure you're capable but you're the one who had dealt with most of the tomb raider on the way here, why don't you take a break?" Player nodded at Calypso with a look of determination, backing up Kyoko's suggestion. Even tho she's not fully ready to revisit the place she couldn't find it in herself to admit it.

How long had it been? one month or was it two,,,, the former pirate can't remember, the days after the event were a blur she remembered Player telling her about Kyoko being somewhere in Bizville.

They offered to take her there that same day but the second in command rejected wanting a few days to recover after the incident, but she didn't really reflect just slept for those few days and then grabbing a few her belongings before taking a boat to Bizville.

A few other things she remembered was probably treating her wounds and 'ohh shit I actually need to respond' "No I can handle this I mean how hard can puttin' stuff in a box be" she knows DAMN WELL what her younger sister meant, no offense but if anyone was going to clear out Trotter's tent it's gonna be her.

She got up from where she was by the crates full of excavations supplies and walked over to the tent

'His stuff is still where he left them' Calypso inhaled deeply 'Don't think about it, you can do this you're an independent woman' yeah she got this.

She kept walking until her foot caught on something making the former pirate lose her balance, Calypso yelp as she trips and fell to the ground.

"Ocean's bitch, what in the 7 seas was that?!" she looked up and saw a tiny chest with a heavy lock, the second in command had never seen it before, strange.

Just then an idea struck her, she got up and dusted herself off before walking over to Trotter's desk.

Calypso opened the bottom drawer and began searching through it, a couple of trowing knives, some jewelers and a box of random (plot convenient) keys.

She chuckled 'Cap'n had always been disorganised' a singular tear drop rolled down her face, no she's not feeling like it today.

She's tired of always crying, save it for another day.

She took the box out and went back to the chest, keys in hand she knelt down and started to test those on the lock.

She tried every keys growing more and more frustrated with each one that failed before finally the former pirate heard a click sound in the 25th try.

She carefully lifted the lid and peeked inside, a spyglass sat inside a beautiful purple and green charm tied together with a string at it's end.

A piece of paper carefully placed beneath it, Calypso took both of them out of the box, she hold up the spyglass inspecting it.

There was a suspicious looking button on it's side, the former pirate took note of it before setting the item down.

She unfolded the paper revealing it to be a map of some sort and at the bottom left corner in Captain Trotter's hand writing was a short note.

Something along the lines of a new adventure awaits or something but the jist is that this was going to be the treasure next in line to be claimed by him.

After the Red Sun's Temple ofc be she knew first hand how well that turned out.

The silence stretches across a few seconds as she stared at nothing before the former pirate's eyes refocused on the map in her hands.

Looking at the displayed 2D compass on the map, the treasure seemed to be somewhere east judging by the giant red "X" mark on said map.

Lastly the second in command notices a note tucked neatly at the bottom of the chest and took it before she closed the lid.

The paper appeared to just be a completed blank and unless piece of parchment, but Calypso had been with Trotter long enough to know what he's capable of.

The man was smarter than he seemed but he wasn't exactly the cautious type when it comes to his crew and it's that kind of thinking that almost sent him to an early (EARLIER) grave.

And it was that fact that made her feel a tad bit worried because if her assumption was right that would mean captain was trying to actively hide something from all of them.

The former pirate reached into her pocket then took out a small lighter, turning the friction wheel she attempted to create a spark an light the gas.

It took a couple of tries but when she finally got it the second in command didn't waste another moment and quickly yet carefully ran the paper over the fire.

Working with precision at to not accidentally set the note ablaze, slowly the message in invisible began to appear on the paper.

It said "Check the tent, X mark the spot" hey probs on the captain for writing this while sober (not the author tho), she disabled the lighter.

And just like that she got a lead, Calypso feel a hint of guilt for going through something that he definitely doesn't what anyone to see, why else would the message be hidden?.

But curiosity replaced all the sensible voices telling her to leave it alone.

But too bad he had taught her well and she's using those exact skill to search for whatever, it was the note mentioned.

She got up and started to walk around the tent, the first step was to try and look for it at an aerial stand point.

Sand got kicked up in the air while she paced back and forth in the tent, the only thing there was an office table and chair, and ALOT of crates fill will an assortment of items ranging from maps to excavation tools.

"How could someone hide something in a space so small?" Calypso continued the search, she spent a few more minutes looking under various objects leaving to stone unturned.

She passed the makeshift bed thinking nothing of it that was until from the corner of her eye she saw a clear X mark carved into the wood of a crate said bed was stacked on.

The former pirate swift moved all othe stuff out of the was in favor of grabbing the crate, she eagerly pried it open using her cutlass.

But much to her bewilderment there were just a couple of excavation supplies in it, safety helmets, pickaxes, and such.

She was just confused why would Trotter make that note if it'll just lead to nothing?.

'No he's not stupid, keep searching' she inspected the box a little longer, closely tracing everything detail.

Calypso closed the crate before holding it away from her face, slowly studying it before noticing a black charcoal smears on the bottom of it.

The former pirate flipped the whole thing over, sure enough there was something, the crate wasn't full square it was almost at if someone opened it from the bottom and forgot to properly close the lid.

Was she really that high to not have noticed it sooner 'okay focus' she tried prying the underside of said crate.

Sure enough there was a secret compartment and she hurriedly took a look, a metal safe sat in the box, she pulled it out.

The safe was battered, door easily swinging open there was a bullet lodged into the door, someone tried to get in and unfortunately for her they'd succeed.

The metal box was shot and the item that was previously there was not gone, Calypso took a closer look at the bullet mark.

The second in command had so many close calls with stray bullets fired by her fellow crew members.

When that happen almost on a daily basis the former pirate was bound to keep tabs of each crews bullet marks, what it looks like, and how they shoot.

And she has a feeling that she knows exactly who's shot this was.

--

Calypso collapsed on her bed, still in her fancy dress and her hat tossed on the floor haphazardly

The room was dark and chilly and she was alone, Kyoko told her to get going before her since she's helping Player with their injuries in their hotel room.

Can't leave the young impulsive hero by themselves for one fucking minute she supposed, the former pirate sigh heavily.

She reaches into her dress pocket and took out a pendent with a purple and green gradient charm, it gleamed catching the moonlight so perfectly.

All of that trouble just for this, the be honest tracking Flynn down was suspiciously easy.

Maybe the real treasure was the 70 Tix she lost along the way bribing people to tell her where he's hiding.

The name echoed in her head, that damn traitorous bastard, he was unhappy with the way things were being stuck on a stupid puzzle and for that he planned a mutiny against the captain just to disappear after that didn't work.

He couldn't just leave quietly, he had to take at least one more precious thing from captain, too bad it was exactly what he was looking for.

Thank gods he was too stupid and stubborn to figure out what it was or it's importance, as for how he even know there was something in the crate in the first place.

Flynn had hear a random rumor at the camp about Trotter keeping a safe under his bed, so a completely unrelated matter that somehow lead to here.

How come Calypso had to do an entire mini side quests to get to the safe but he just fucking gets from the random nonsense spewed by drunk pirates.

For a few seconds Calypso just stared at the item admiring every detail 'Is this really worth it?' Nope, I mean ofc it is right? this can be her way of remembering Captain Trotter, by getting the treasure he wasn't able to get.

Sure she wasn't proud of what she need to do achieve that goal 'no, stop don't think about it' all that matters is that she got the second half.

If only Trotter's alive then maybe he could guide her on this already rough journey, maybe he'd have better luck than her, maybe, maybe.

Now for the actual hard part which would be sailing the vast sea, but that can wait another day.

The former pirate was absolutely tuckered out after that mess of a ball.

But she needs to AT LEAST shower and change before bed she was a medical professional for gods sake, Calypso knows damn well it's not hygienic to just sleep it off.

The second in command got up from where she was laying and stared directly at the full sized mirror on the other side of the room.

"Fffuuuuccccckkkkk" she got some blood splattered on her (It wasn't her's) now she absolutely HAS to shower.

She carefully placed the necklace on her bedside table before pushing herself off the bed.

The former pirate began walking towards the door and turned the knob.

--

Calypso needs to assemble a crew because a ship ain't gonna run itself, but her options were limited to say the least.

All of her fellow crew members were either,,,dead, or unfaithful pieces of shit, an blade who's unafraid to stab her back.

And why would she ever work with the mutineers who betrayed Captain Trotter.

How bout that weird plant boy? he and Player seems to be good friends, NO, she can't just have anyone on this journey.

Besides he was reckless, even more so than the hero there was also the penguin brothers but the tall one, no offense but he doesn't seem to be the sharpest at times.

Sure his attitude will be useful to boost moral but she doesn't need that, she's completely absolutely totally fine and don't want reassurance.

So he's a nope, how bout the older one? he was actually pretty competent despite being friends, wait no, "acquaintances" with Player.

But he was as cranky as an old man, how old is he anyway? not important right now.

Another downside is he hates it when people bother him while he's doing literally anything which was fair to be honest, but he would probably rocket blast her to oblivion on sight.

Doing this whole list was starting to make Calypso realized that she doesn't really have any "Friends" which was kinda sad.

The former pirate had always been a little odd compared to everyone else, she never got along with anyone because of her "attitude" and how she's "mean".

'No, not right now' she'll keep the thought on a shelf for now.

How about Player, now she has ALOT of things to say about them and the fact that they're dating her sister was the least of her worries.

The second in command knows they won't do anything to hurt her, but the savior was still such a wild card in other aspects and areas.

Reliable and a little stupid on occasions, they can't read the room even if their life dependent on it.

Devoted to Kyoko and their quest for the 7 accursed sword and determined to get them no matter what.

But they're also kind and helps those in need, the hero will defeat everyone they deemed a threat and dangerous.

But that's the thing isn't it, they're going of their gut feeling alone and it could end badly for everyone.

But what other options does she have? question is would she win in a fight against them (Probably not) best case scenario it'd be a tie.

Is that a chance that she's willing to take? you know what sure, so many things could go wrong but what's the point of living if you're not gonna take any risks?.

After hours of constant back and forth with herself while gazing into the void on the couch she'd concluded that Kyoko and Player would be the best pick for this treasure hunt.

As much as the former pirate Hated the idea of putting her younger sister in the way of danger she doesn't have any other options.

And besides the traveler got her sister and the hero to protect her so this should be fine.

--

After Calypso told Kyoko about the trip she was ecstatic and full of enthusiasm (but she always is) nevermind.

Player's wound were healed by now so it shouldn't cause the trio any problems well unless they somehow find new ways to impress and disappoint her and get hurt almost immediately after they arrive on the island.

Fucking trouble magnet, but a reliable one so she can't just not have them, still.

Calypso could use an extra set on hands for the adventure because no offence but Kyoko doesn't seem like the fight type.

She's still just Calypso's younger sister, let's just hope Player actually shows up in time they have to get going early so if they overslept or something she'll just leave.

The former pirate can find a replacement somewhere along the way.
