They strolled in with their usual poise as they held their wine glass with class as they swished the crimson contents around.

Their eyes immediately landed to the lone bean sitting at the table. Their demeanor visibly brightened as they walked over while waving at Green with their free hand. “Green, there you are! I was wondering where you went off too”

Work Text:

Green was in the cafeteria, the usual blinding lights that were often accompanying the ship had notably dimmed down. This signaled that at least for the next few hours it was bedtime. Since there was no night in space, the lights would dimmed during a certain period to signal respite for the crew.

That’s what Green was told anyway, but actually sitting here like this, it was really giving the feeling of night time. Until they looked out the window and were reminded that they weren’t on their home planet or back to the worm farm.

They felt rather tired yet they couldn’t go to sleep, today was a lot. It was their first day as an unpaid intern and the ship had hit an asteroid causing a hole in the ship by the winning contestant, white. Thankfully the crew were able to patch the hole up and nothing somehow miraculously not breaking.

Admittedly they were a bit disappointed they didn’t get the chance to fly the ship as it is their DREAM to become captain. But in the end it almost didn’t matter at the missed opportunity that slipped through, they were just glad that everything went okay and no one got hurt.

And because of such overwhelming experience they couldn’t sleep. They were sitting at one of the tables with a mug of milk. They sincerely hoped that Yellow and Brown wouldn’t mind that they served themselves a cup without asking.

They’ll apologize for that later but now they really needed to decompress.

Green took a slow slip of the milk, it tasted refreshing as it soothe their throat as they continued to drink. They let out a noise of satisfaction as they gently rested the cup back onto the table.

Before long Green’s loneliness was no more as another entered the cafeteria.

White

They strolled in with their usual poise as they held their wine glass with class as they swished the crimson contents around.

Their eyes immediately landed to the lone bean sitting at the table. Their demeanor visibly brightened as they walked over while waving at Green with their free hand. “Green, there you are! I was wondering where you went off too”

Green took a gulp in surprise, they hadn’t expected the other to go and look for them. They replied back in surprise in their tone. “You…..remembered me?”

“Of course, we came here together.” White spoke out in their usual gleeful tone as they plopped down next to the other like they belonged there “although, it was by chance. It just feels right to stick together. I was worried when you didn’t go to the sleeping quarters.”

“Yeah?” Green inquired softly

“Yeah” White hummed out with assurance

Green felt their chest swell up in a fuzzy and warm feeling they can’t describe yet “well, I’m glad for your consideration White”

White placed their own glass down as they rested their hands on the table as they stared out into the galaxy for a moment before shifting focus back onto the other. As they spoke more gently this time “Rough day?”

Green didn’t respond verbally but merely placed their knees against their chest.

“Sorry about that, it’s probably my fault” White continued to speak while fidgeting slightly with their glass. “I took away your opportunity to fly the ship and then….I crashed the ship

They spoke out quietly as they genuinely felt bad for their past actions. While trancing the rim of their glass idly.

Green stared back in surprise, not expecting an apology from them. Their face softened before speaking again. “It’s alright, if not you then I wouldn’t crashed the ship. Considering we both don’t know how to fly a ship anyways It’s okay, water under the bridge”

“Oh- I’m glad” White stuttered out with a hint of relief

“And I feel bad now” Green murmured out in embarrassment as they scratched the back of their head. “You came looking for me and here I am probably bumming you out, huh?”

“Not at all” White responded with ease as they were just glad that the other didn’t have a gripe against them.

“If you’d like we can talk about something else?”

Green felt a sense of ease at the idea of conversing with white for a while, they nodded with more enthusiasm.

White felt happy at the positive reception from the other as they took a small sip of wine from their glass as they pondered for a moment. They glanced back at the other  as they inquired. “Well, what’s your favorite hobby?”

Green should have expected such a question as it was the most basic icebreakers for conversation, they fiddled with the string of their hoodie in embarrassment “It’s kinda childish….don’t laugh okay?”

White leaned in closer in sincerity. While Green looked at the other for a moment before responding. “I like…..looking at stars. My cousin owns a telescope…it’s pretty beat up but I really liked using it to see the stars. And reading their astronomy books to see if I can guess the constellation”

“I think I used it more than they did” they breathed out a laugh “and you?”

White straightened up slightly as the intern turned to them, they thought for a moment before grinning as they snapped their fingers as they answered simply “dancing”

“My parents would play music in one of our many mansions, when I was younger we’d danced and sing together like nothing else mattered in the world but us. It’s my favorite thing to do with them”

Green stared in awe they couldn’t help themselves but speak up in that moment “That sounds wonderful, seems like you really enjoy it”

“Well your hobby sounds just as wonderful as mine” White spoke in a relaxed manner as they were really enjoying this moment with Green.

Green’s felt their face flushed in embarrassment but felt really glad that White seemed to be okay with their favorite hobby. “Thanks….do you have a specific dancing style?”

“Well, I usually switch it up to make it more fun” White chuckles out as swished around their glass again before raising a brow. “Why do you ask? You wanna dance with me?”

Green felt their breath hitch as their foot somehow lost its footing while sitting down as accidentally crashed into White, Thankfully they steadied themselves as White held their glass carefully and it didn’t spill.

“Oh geez- I’m so sorry!” Green sputtered out with clear nervousness as they backed away slightly while waving their hands around. “I don’t think I’d make a good dance partner, I don’t really dance….”

“Hey it’s okay” White tried to reassure other as they placed their glass back on the table before standing up to look at Green. “You know….”

“My parents once told me what makes a dancing together exciting it’s not the dance itself but your dancing partner

Green looked up at the other for a moment, it seemed like White only wanted to have some fun. Maybe they don’t have to overthink anything and just try to have a good time.

“Well I’m warning you, I’m not very good”

White nodding to the other feeling rather joyful in that moment “don’t worry I have a good feeling about you”

Green stood up from their seat and stared at White before slowly with a nervous hand placed it on White’s shoulder. Meanwhile White felt surprised at the other making a move first but was very glad about it, they placed their own hand on Green’s waist.

All was let was to hold the others hand, for a moment both had hesitated before White slowly moved their’s closer giving the other a chance to pull away.

In a slow and gentle manner, White had intertwined their hands together.

Green looked at their connected hands for a moment before looking back at White’s face. And for a moment nobody did anything like time stood still to hold its breath at the moment before them.

White wondered for a moment if the AC was working as their face felt rather hot in that moment, they made a mental note to talk to that engineer about it.

They gently began to waltz around together, slow and steady. The atmosphere around them seemed to hum soothingly around them in that moment.

“Now we can enjoy both of our hobbies together” White had chuckled out as they continued to gently lead the other in their little dance.

Green didn’t say anything for a moment as they raised a brow in confusion, White seemed to grow more fond at the other’s expression as they gestured toward the window. The intern started out the window and into the vast galaxy before them.

Green felt their visor light up as they looked before turning back to the other as they whispered out in amusement “I don’t think stargazing counts if you’re in space, it’s a different feeling when you see them down of the ground. My village probably has the best view I could show after the mission- ah if you’d like…..”

“Then I’ll show you one of my mansions, there’s a lot of space to dance together and I have many different albums, so we can listen to anything we want while dancing.”  White responded in a gleeful manner as they continued to already look forward to doing those things with Green.

They two continued to waltz around together, before White spun Green around gently with their hands. While Green was suddenly surprised by being spun around they felt rather happy as it suddenly felt really magical.

“Is that a promise?” Green inquired rather happily at the idea

“It’s a date” White simply replied in a sing-song tone.

And for the next few moments the two didn’t speak again as they simply basked in the moment together as they danced. White still was leading but was spinning and twirling Green around more often as they made such a lovely expression when they did.

Meanwhile Green was different grinning ear to ear, as the dance continued they felt more confident. They seemed to follow along White more fluidly. They couldn’t help it as they felt comfortable, comfortable with White in this moment.

But soon their dance became less of a dance as they started to just twirl around together while laughing. It wasn’t long before they fell to the ground.

“Sorry about that” Green had laughed out quietly

But White merely shook their heads while grinning “Nah, that was my fault”

They both stayed there for a moment while quietly laughing together, basking in each other’s presence. Their laughter slowed down as they locked eyes. White’s eyes shimmered brightly while Green’s face changed to a nice rosy hue.

“We should probably get ready to go to bed soon” Green whispered shyly as they clutched their hoodie tightly while looking away.

“Oh, right” White agreed simply as they started to feel a tinge of tiredness after such excitement.

It took a few minutes to cleanup a bit, well Green cleaned up while White merely stayed with the other for company.

After a little while the two parted ways to their respective rooms.

White laid their back on the mattress of their room, they glanced up at the ceiling as the clock ticked by idly in the background. It was unlike them as they spaced out thinking back about the situation.

They couldn’t stop thinking about that dance, it was one they’d done before with a million other people some even being more fast paced or being more complex. It was a simple dance, so why did it feel so different?

So special?

White glance at their hands, the ones that held Green, the ones that intertwined their hands together. They felt the ghost of the other’s presence with their hands. They sighed out softly as they couldn’t wrap their head around it as they simply placed their hand against their cheeks.

Once communications are repaired they’ll asked if they can contact their parents, that maybe they can help with this unusual feeling.

White hummed out as they may get more from this trip than they expected.
