It had been a day like any other on the ship.
Green had been mopping the floors like a good unpaid intern should. They continued to and fro the action until they stopped to stare at themselves on the reflective surface.
Their expression looking distant and disconnected from the present moment. It had been like this recently, because of a certain someone.
White, the wining contestant. They had recently been spending time with one another. It was safe to say they enjoyable, they just seemed to click together.
Well, that was the best way Green could describe it.
That's why they felt conflicted.
Could this new found friendship bring some complications?
There was about a week now before the crew reached Industria. And now they felt anxious, here on the ship they could hang out and talk together without any problems.
But would it be the same after they land?
Both White and Green belong to different backgrounds, very different....
Perhaps it'd be reasonable to just nip the bud and cut off their friendship so it doesn't cause unwanted problems in the future.
But some part of Green didn't want to do that.
But they were so different and yet that's what draws them closer together. Their interest in the other’s life so different from their own, but that might prove to be their undoing.
Green sighed out tiredly, all this thinking was too much. They shook their head rapidly to remove those thoughts.
But they didn't leave
Instead they got stronger and louder.
And once dinner time arrived, Green held a dark cloud above their head from their anxieties and negative thoughts.
What would happen in the future, what if-
"Green?'
The intern snapped their head up, pulled back to reality. By none other than the one they had been thinking about.
White
"Hey, you okay?" They held a slightly worried expression as they waved their hand in the other's face. "You look kinda out of it, you weren't listening to a word I was saying"
For a moment Green thought about what to say before forcing a happy expression on their face. "Oh nothing, I'm fine just....nothing don't worry about it"
"Hm, alright then!" White hummed out thoughtfully before coming to speak "Well I'm glad you agreed to meet me in my room later"
"Wait wha-"
"Anyways, I'm so excited for our hangout later! Ta ta!" White waved their hands in a farewell gesture as they strolled away happily.
Meanwhile Green stood there frozen like ice with their hand stretched out. A bead of sweat began to trickle down.
Had they accidentally agreed to meet up while lost in their thoughts?
But no matter the circumstances Green was a bean of their word, if they agreed to meet with White then that's what they'll do.
Much time had passed before they went to White's door. After all they had tasks to do first but that doesn't matter.
But now that Green was standing in front of the door they felt more nervous. Despite becoming closer to White as a friend, they've never actually been in the other's room.
"Ah stupid, stupid, stupid" they mumbled repeatedly as they hit their face in embarrassment. They calmed down after a while before bringing their knuckles against the door to-
Knock knock
It wasn’t long before the door opened in fact it barely took a second before White peaked out, their face brighted as their focus landed on the intern. "Green, there you are! You sure know how to keep a bean waiting!"
"Yeah, s- sorry about that" Green replied with guilt, they couldn’t tell White they were standing outside their door for the past twenty minutes trying to gain some confidence before doing this.
"Well, don't just stand there! Come on in!" White welcomes the other in elegantly like they've done this a million times, probably because they have.
Once Green enters the room, it held a sort of elegantly that suited White perfectly and made Green deathly afraid to touch anything expensive, they wouldn't want to break anything now.
"Yeah, sorry about the cramped space it was the biggest room the ship had" White sighs out simply as they sat at the edge of their bed.
Green nodded along carefully while taking note of the room that was probably bigger than their living room back home.
"White?" They spoke up suddenly
"Yes?"
Green pondered for a moment before deciding to speak what's on their mind. "Did I really agree to meet up with you?"
"No" White answered honestly while playing with the rim of their wine glass. They spoke more playfully "But the fact you asked kinda proved you weren't listening"
"O- oh sorry" Green replied in a flustered tone as they scratched the back of their head.
"Oh don't worry about that" they reassured the other in a relaxed manner. "I just want to figure out what's up with you"
Green began to fidget with their fingers "with me?"
"Yeah" White responded with a grin as they patted the spot next to them. "You say that you're fine but you have that tone that says you're not, it's kinda obvious"
"Aw man" the intern said in a embarrassed manner as they sat on the bed next to White, it was not a nice feeling being called out like that.
"I mean, I won't force you buuuut I'd like to know what's up" White replied in a bubbly tone but it held a level of sincerity beneath it.
Green shifted their focus away for a fleeting moment, they did an audible gulp before deciding to stare at the ground. "I've been thinking about.....us"
As quick as lighting White's back notably straightened up their expression less relaxed than before. "Us?"
Green nodded slowly before letting out a sigh "I just been thinking....it's been really nice hanging out with you-"
"So what's the problem? We've been having so much fun together a- and we’re getting along so well?"
White suddenly started to feel their own anxiety well up, clearly not liking where this conversation was going.
"That's not the problem-"
"So then WHAT is the problem?"
The pressure began to rise up at a concerning speed.
"How are we going to make this work?! Our lives are really different people, expectations or goals- just everything!"
And all of a sudden Green let out the thoughts that had been plagued them for a while. They hadn't meant to yell, it just burst out like a bomb of messy and ugly emotions.
They whispered shakily ".....what if we just hurt each other because of it?"
"Could we be close right now? A hug will do." White asked out quietly, it was so unlike them.
Green felt their vision water slightly feeling ashamed and regretful for yelling. But they nodded simply in agreement.
The two came in close and wrapped eachother's arms around the other. It was a warm feeling like feeling a little candle close. It was silent for a few seconds, the atmosphere seeming to calm down slightly.
"You feel very upset" White simply pointed out
Green sniffed out quietly "I guess I am"
"But it's not your fault it's mine, I'm just being stupid"
White interjected rather quickly "I don't think it's stupid, you're crying"
Green stayed silent as they let White continue to speak while they listened. "What can I do to make it better?"
Green subconsciously buried their head against the other's shoulder as they mumbled "Nothing really....it just feels like we're breaking some sort of rules"
"That's fine, we can make our own rules then" White countered
"Like what?" Green inquired
"Likeeeee~ you always have to eat lunch with me and hangout allllllll the time, especially when you're feeling blue- Oh wait wrong color" White just started spouting out random things until something sticks.
"Oh my goodness-" Green let out a tiny snort of a laugh. They couldn’t help it, everything White was saying was so random "be serious"
White felt a grin begin to show as they heard the other's laugh. "There's my happy little sweetpea"
Green began to try and push the other away without putting any real effort into it the squeaked out while their face begins to flush "stop, you're embarrassing me!"
"Embarrassing you? In front of who? There's no one else here just you and I~" White replied in a cheeky tone as they pulled the other closer that Green's practically sitting on their lap.
Green squeaked out again in glee as a flurry of laughter wells up as their faces were really close now. "Oh- just stop! You’re doing too much Snowball!"
So much infectious happiness was being spread that Green accidentally called the other by a nickname.
"Ooo~ a nickname?" White cooed happily as they nuzzles their face against the other "I just might buy you the whole world now for that"
"That's too much, I don't need it" Green grinned out to the other in amusement. They went to boop the other playfully "you're so silly"
White's own face was flushing a deeper color "you know you care about me, sweetpea"
And to that Green simply hummed out
"I just might have to keep you here for the night" White said playfully
"That doesn't sound so bad, snowball" Green replied with readily agreement as they watched the other with fondness as they felt the other slowly lower them backwards.
Not long later the two beans toppled backwards onto the mattress.
