Once the day arrives to land to Industria Green couldn’t keep their nerves in check, their palms were unbearably sweaty. An awful wet sound was heard as they clutched their palms together, they cringed silently.
Gross
But once they landed all those nerves turned into unbridled glee. They had just completed an expedition for the first time as an unpaid intern. Even though there were some bumps along the trip but still, a good step in the right direction.
The first thing Green did when they landed to Industria was reaching to a phone, they couldn’t help it really. They wanted to tell their family the good news, the intern recounted the events and it filled them with a warm feeling at the lovely encouragement from them.
But alas, they had to keep it short, no rest for them anytime soon.
When Green was on The Skeld their job mostly consisted of mopping and other basic cleaning duties but now their job was a bit more diverse.
Since the crew had to load out the ore plus that job mostly fell onto Black and Cyan, the two geologists who had handled this before and Green, the intern grunt work was in the job description.
With that being handled slowly and continuing their cleaning duties and some other miscellaneous errands, it had been a busy few days as they practically ran around like a headless chicken.
After three days of nonstop work, Green sat down tiredly on a bench. They were taking a break. It didn’t help it was rather hot, they suddenly missed the AC of the ship now.
It had been a hectic three days since they landed, they needed a moment to breathe. So much so that they had a feeling they were forgetting something important.
While Green was catching their breath a pair of hands came in to covered their visor.
“Guess who~”
Green squeaked in surprise as they placed their hands on the other’s own in surprise. It felt very familiar their presence, voice and hands.
It was none other than-
“White, you scared me!”
White removed their hands with a playful expression as they leaned over the intern’s shoulder to gaze at them. “Oh, such a good guesser! Right on the first try!”
“I can’t believe it,” Green turned around to stare at White with a joyful expression, they spoke again in glee “I didn’t think you’d be here, I thought you left as soon as we landed.”
“What? And leave without saying goodbye to my favorite bean?" White answered casually as they moved around and sat next to the other "Not a chance"
Green giggled out quietly as they fiddled with their fingers. "It's just surprising, I didn't think you'd wait to go home"
"Oh that's understandable, but I just needed to see you before our inevitable separation" White hummed out thoughtfully but with slightly less glee from before. "...It will probably be a while before we see each other again"
"O- oh yes, right...." Green replied quietly the atmosphere turning slightly less animated than when they started.
And for a while the two didn't say anything, not because they didn't want to but because it felt like there was not much to say at the moment.
A sudden urge overtook Green as they turned to the other and gave them a hug. It was an impulse but it just felt right for the moment.
"I'm gonna miss you..." the intern mumbled out
White as very surprised by the sudden contact between the both of them, that doesn't mean they don't enjoy the sensation as they instantly reciprocate while relishing the other's presence. "Me too, me too"
"Oh geez- you're not well hidden, get a room" Black suddenly chimed in as they passed by the two with a crate of ore plus.
In the moment at the sight of the ore plus, Green quickly entered work mode as they spoke up. "Oh worm, I'm so sorry! I've been taking a break longer than expected let me help-"
And to that Black quickly interjected as they waved their hand dismissively.
"I'll cover for you but just this one time. Just don't bring your sappy relationship into this....I get enough from watching Yellow and Brown already"
Both White and Green watched Black walk away with confusion as they were clearly still holding each other.
"What was that about?" White inquired idly as they turned towards Green.
"I'm actually not sure..." Green replied as they felt the gears turn in their head.
"Oh, idea!" White quickly pipes up in a excited tone with stars practically in their eyes. "You can give me your number! That way we can call or text anytime!"
"Wha- what, My phone?" The intern suddenly sputters out in surprise. "It stopped working a while back, don't got the time or money to replace it....sorry about that"
"Well alright then, I'm convinced" White answered simply as they seemed to make up their mind about something.
Without waiting they stood up and grabbed Green by their hand, practically dragging them away "let's get you a phone then"
"Wait wha- I don't think that's how it works White." Green didn't stop the other but attempted to voice their thoughts.
"You don't have a phone so we'll get you one, simple" White just shrugged as the answered simply as if they were talking about the weather.
Cha-ching
And just like that and without any explanation. Green found themselves in a store with White as they made a purchase. Green felt they were about to burst into tears. As they saw money being handed out like candy.
Rest in peace stacks of money, you will be missed.
White snaps their fingers in front of Green's face for a second. "You there? You're spacing out again, do you need to sit down?"
"Ah- no, just thought about something else for a moment" Green reassured as they wept internally for White's wallet despite knowing it didn't even make a dent in it.
White hands the bag to Green proudly as they voiced it out loud and clear. "Well, Sweetpea don't you think I deserve something for my good deed, no?"
They blinked their eyes expectingly while holding their hands together trying to turn up the charm.
"O- oh yeah, of course" Green grabbed the bag slowly before nodding rapidly in agreement, a gratitude should be in order. "Thank you, White"
"You didn't it wrong, come on say it right~" White teased as they began to poke the other's shoulder. "Say the nickname, Sweetpea"
"Huh? No way White, that's too embarrassing" Green counters with a tiny flush of their cheeks.
"Whyyyyy, you didn't have a problem saying it a few nights ago" White pouted as the wrapped their arms around Green's waist, attempting to get some pity points from the other.
Green let out a tiny breath as they stared at the other. "That was because we were alone, it's embarrassing around other people"
"But you'd might"
"But I won't"
"But you'd could"
"But I couldn’t"
"But you will"
"But I might not..."
White chuckled into their hand as they leaned very close to Green "Oh I love this game we're playing"
"Come on, quit it White. You won't get anything from me" Green interjected trying to seem stern but it falls rarely flat in action.
"But you're making me beg, Sweetpea...unless you're into me begging for you?" White inquired teasingly as they poked the other's cheek.
Green's felt more heat rise to their face, it started getting rather dizzing but that became a natural reaction when they're with White.
"I...well," they avoided eye contact for a second before speaking once more "Thank you.....snowball"
The intern practically whispered out that last word but it didn't stop the other from hearing it as they were basically face to face. White's own face began to heat up as they spontaneously began nuzzling the other.
The two did nothing for a moment for a long while. Before they moved towards a least crowded area as to teach Green how to use their new phone.
It was a learning experience to say the least.
The two placements had Green sitting in between the other comfortably while White had wrapped their arms around the other again, nothing was really going on.
It just felt right
"Say, White?" Green stared as they idly fiddled with the phone in their hands.
"Hm?" White hummed out in acknowledgement despite seeming to be a bit drowsy.
"We're friends, yeah?" Green pondered out loud as they tilted their head to look at the other. "But it feels.....just kinda vague right now, yeah?"
"Could be a friends with benefits type of thing" White mumbled out without thinking to hard as they were clearly half asleep.
"Wait what? Don't you need to do- you know, the deed to be considered friends with benefits?" Green chimed in while feeling rather flustered at the idea of being friends with benefits and with White no less....
"Not necessarily, you just have to be intimate with your friend with no strings attached. So things like cuddling or just kissing works too"
"So is that what this is?" Green questioned as they vaguely gestures towards the both of them.
"It could be" White replied to the other while placing their head on the crook of the other's neck as they were not paying any attention.
Green sighed out tiredly feeling rather exhausted themselves. "Hm, let's get you some rest you probably need it"
Once the next day rolls around White was standing at the entrance getting ready to leave, their luggage packed and ready.
Green steps over to the slowly as they mumbled out "so, this is it huh?"
"I suppose so" White took in a deep breath as they spoke.
“Oh, well before you leave I have something for you” Green quickly shuffled forward and extended their hand.
White stretched out their own and not long later something dropped into their palm. It was a bracelet, it was a simple design as a few pieces of yarn both green and white colors were woven together into a basic intertwined way.
White blinks for a moment before holding the bracelet carefully as they inspected it, they inquired curiously. “Where did you get this”
At suddenly being put on the spot, Green stammers out quietly as they stared at their feet. “Well- I wanted to give you a gift too and- I’m sorry if it looks bad…..I made it last minute and…I just wanted to do something nice for you”
“To show I care”
White let out a fond chuckle as they held the item close. “It’s simple- in a charming way I mean it’s very you, I like it”
Green hesitantly stretched their arms, asking for a hug. And to that White didn’t waste any time and embraced the other. Just them two, simply soaking in each other’s presence, it was warm like a sunny day in the spring.
Ring- ring
Unfortunately not long later White began to vibrate as their ringtone could be clearly heard. Their face twitched for a split second as Green moved away clearly taken aback by the interruption, the intern scratched their cheek.
“I think that’s for you”
“Yeah…” White sighed out as they pulled out their phone in dismay. “I’ll be right back”
Green watched the other take a few steps away, they stood around idly for a few minutes as they observed White’s expression. The other looked mildly annoyed as they spoke to the other on the line, they hoped nothing bad had happened.
They casually glanced at the clock, it was already getting pretty late. If they didn’t want to be late for work later they’d have to wrap this up soon.
Bummer
Green focused their gaze back onto White as the phone call ended. They might be able to make it back quick if they ran now.
“So, this is goodbye, huh?” They muttered out simply.
White glanced back towards the other, they let out a tiny grin. “Goodbye?”
“That makes it sound like we’ll never see each other again I’d hate for that to happen, I’d get lonely” they responded teasingly as they playfully flicked the other’s hat.
“So we’ll meet again?” Green questions out loud, they clearly looked confused at the other’s confidence.
“Definitely,” White responded quickly, they seemed so sure of themselves “so, farewell, friend”
“I wish you good luck, White.” Green nodded in agreement
They suddenly clutched their hands together as their faces were unbearably close as they suddenly spoke at the same time.
“May we meet again soon”
The two suddenly paused before giggling out quietly together. And slowly as if they didn’t want to part or they weren’t meant to part.
They detached from each other, Green took a step away
We don’t know when
Followed by White soon after as they began to wave signaling their departure.
We don’t know how
Green began to turn to walk away but still looked at White while returning the gesture.
But we will meet again.
