Summary
Maya and Carina had gotten into an argument about Carina's expired visa, the state of immigration in the United States, the institution of marriage, and the concept of having children just hours before Carina's flight to Italy during the Covid-19 Pandemic. Carina left angrily that day, and that was the last time Maya saw her.
Five years later, newly promoted Battalion Chief Maya Bishop has moved on with her life. Her dedication to the SFD drove her quickly from Captain to Battalion Chief. And during a 10k run with Ben Warren to fundraise for his wife's research Maya had met Josh - her current boyfriend of three years. As the Director of Track & Field/Cross Country at the University of Washington, he and Maya had a lot in common and they quickly fell into a comfortable and supportive relationship.
But as Maya packs her desk to move into a new office she comes across a photo of herself with a sun-kissed Italian woman who could bring warmth to her body through an old photo. A woman she still feels both anger over and desire for when she allows herself to think about her. A woman who, unbeknownst to Maya, currently happens to be a couple miles down the road at Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital.
