Summary
1999. Will Byers has spent the past 16 years in a state of denied bilocation, both studying psychology and philosophy in an (unconscious) effort to understand what he became after being marked by the Outside and trying to ignore the supranatural phenomena surrounding him ever since that week in November. Simultaneously, Mike Wheeler has been chasing the echoes of other writers to little avail, and, though he and Will have been in (seemingly) separate worlds for many years, he will soon be hurtled back into his life like a meteorite. Spurred on by forces understood by neither of them, they will undergo a journey through an America far truer than it is real, fraying at the edges and teetering on the precipice of the eschaton. The road through the Zone is at once excursive and centripetal, perverse and not altogether (t)here, but travel it they must, for the new millennium approacheth on a datastream of protean fire – in physics, 28 is a magic number.
