The lions were drifting through space quietly. They had just saved a planet and it had been a long day. Everyone was exhausted and couldn't wait to rest.
"All right good work today team. Let's call it a day for now" Shiro said. Hunk had prepared dinner and delivered it to everyone via Kosmo. Everyone went to sleep.
Everyone except Keith and Lance. They had a secret. They had been secretly dating for around 2 months. Every night after everyone was asleep either Keith or lance would go into each others lions to sleep.This had become a habit for them ever since they lost the castle and were traveling towards Earth in the lions. They would use Kosmo's help to teleport in each others lions.
Today Lance decided to go to Keith’s lion because Romelle was with him in Blue. Kosmo came to pick him up.The wolf was used to this schedule by now. He dropped of Lance in the entry hatch of Red. Lance made his way towards the cockpit or rather the head of the lion. He found Keith reading something on his holopad.
"Hey"Lance said to him.
"Hey to you too. Finally. What took you so long?"Keith replied.
"Oh you know Romelle. How much she loves talking."
"Come on let's sleep now. I'm tired." Keith responded as he put down his holopad .He went to lay down on the blankets spread on the floor. Since they didn't have any beds in the lions this was the setup they had. Lance smiled and went to lay beside him.The blankets rustled as they both lay down and got comfortable. The floor of Red was cold but the blankets made up for it.
The past few weeks had been quite peaceful but also unsettling. Peaceful because Galra weren't attacking a lot of planets lately and they rarely got any help calls from other planets. Unsettling because they were unsure of what the Galra could now be planning and hoping Earth would be fine. They had no way of contacting Earth.
All they could do was slowly drift through space.
The lights in Red were now dim to accommodate their sleeping schedule. Keith was laying on his back staring at the ceiling. Lance threw his arm across Keith’s stomach and got closer to him. He nuzzled in Keith’s shoulder. They stayed silent for a long while.
"I can feel your eyes on me" Keith said after a while. Lance simply hummed in response. "What are you thinking about?" Lance asked.
Keith stiffened up and exhaled before he spoke. Then after some time he replied "What if the galra have already gotten to Earth?". Lance froze for a second. All of them had known that was a possibility but nobody actually said it out loud. They were trying their best to be optimistic in the situation.
"How would they get there? It's literally on the opposite side of the universe " Lance replied still trying to be hopeful.
"They have all the technology in the universe. And we have no castle , no wormholes ,no communication to Earth. " Keith said with a tone of fear in his voice.
"Keith...."
"And who knows how long we have been traveling in these lions.How much longer it will take us to actually get to Earth." Keith continued .His voice cracked while talking.
"Keith..."
"What if ... what if we're already too late?. What if we.."
"Keith!" Lance exclaimed interrupting him. Keith got a little shocked by the sudden loud voice but looked at Lance and waited for his reply.
"Look I know these past few weeks have been tough for all of us and we don't know if Earth is safe ... "Lance started explaining. He wasn't quite sure how to comfort the man beside him as he was also unsure of their future.
"That’s not very reassuring "Keith said in a whisper as if they had to talk quietly.
"I know it's scary. But we are doing everything we can for now." Lance continued in a hushed voice that matched Keiths.
"I'm sure Earth will be safe. We'll keep our home safe." Lance said. He snuggled closer to Keith. Keith brushed his hand against Lances and clasped their hands together. Lance gave it a squeeze and smiled at Keith.
"I hope so" was all Keith could say in reply.
"We should sleep now. Cuz we'll have to train early tomorrow "Keith said. Lance hummed in response.
The low hum in the cockpit was quite comforting and soothing. Soon both the boys drifted of into sleep while clinging to each other.
