Drowning in Information

Summary:

Owen remembers around his group. Scans and scans finding Pearl and Apo but Sausage, Owen cannot seem to remember where he is.

Owen decides to simply try and remember, look through time everywhere in this moment.

Notes:

Tried my best with Pan!Owen's pronouns.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

He can't see. She can't see anything. It's a nothingness that's not filled by echolocation. It's an emptiness that's never filled. He can imagine, she can feel, he can hear.

Owen remembers. That is the closest she will ever get. He can remember the next moments and the last she can know. But it will never be right. It is a memory not a direct view. It's odd. It's wrong. He can feel her head pound now.

Owen doesn't need to hope he looks normal. She remembers he doesn't. It's not a great feeling to feel time push its way into her mind. He doesn't really know how her mind coped. It just did. It repressed anything that wasn't needed that wasn't now.

All of time is a lot.

A few seconds of all of time is a lot. Everything at once. Knowing all that happened in a single second. It's a lot and is hard to even comprehend the concept.

How good is your memory? Can you remember what you ate last week for lunch? Imagine having that plus millions of trillions of years of everything.

That's how Owen feels right now sitting on the edge of the bridge. The wind is not harsh but there as it flows past.

Owen can feel his hair whip at her face. He remembers Apo leaning on the short wall nearby and Pearl laying on the bed staring up at the sky.

Sausage is.. Owen sighs. Sausage is not in her vicinity.

“Pearl, can I take the bed for a second?” Owen hops off the edge of the ledge, walking over.

“Mhherrrr.” Pearl groans flopping over onto her stomach. The duel didn't really kill her obviously but Pearl is tired.

“Whatever. Apo do you have any wool?” Owen looks over. Not out of instinct or need but because that is the way you pass of being able to see. Even if your hearing is worse it's better to be facing them forwards than sideways.

Socially at least.

“Uhh.. I think some is in the chest?” Apo shrugs. Owen sighs again remembering vaguely finding wool. Probably soon.

Owen heads to the chest flicking it open the constant sense of deja vu spiking for a second before going back to the normal thrum. It's loud and distracting and definitely is a part of his headache.

Owen quickly crafts a bed before pausing. Pearl is still face first into the pillows. Apo is still leaning and probably looking at the view. Owen doesn't bother to try and remember it.

She quickly places the bed a bit away from Pearls and sits down awkwardly. It's odd just knowing, remembering what its shape is, what its texture is.

He hasn't had this luxury for long, and is it such a luxury, a blessing, a curse, a fate. She shakes her head, it's time to push the headache more aside and clear his mind. Like a room office but instead of a messy desk it's overflowing with paper and files all detailed and different. Only so many can be read or even comprehended at a time. So she sits at the chair and digs through the room and digs and digs clearing a meager space on the desk.

The search is slow, painful. He knows that she is breathing heavily, that he is sweating.

It's hard. But eventually. Boom.

A paper with sausages location.

He's standing on a cliff looking over the scenery with closed eyes and a small frown on his face. The breeze is making his clothes shuffles and the trees and moving so slightly and every leaf is moving-.

Owen is snapped out of it by a shaking that makes the office shake and all the papers are lost again. The slow automatic trigger of moment by moment clicking back into place.

She blinks up at Apo.

“Are you okay Owen you looked like you were having a panic attack??” Apo words are rushed, maybe even frantic.

Owen notices he is laid down instead of sitting. Pearl is now the one sitting head turned her way.

“Sorry sorry.. I was just wondering where Sausage was? I don't know the whole thing, knowing all of time is a lot..” Owen quickly apologizes hoping that he is looking into her eyes.

Owen should probably try to do that again when not around others. Not to mention her headache while it is pounding. Doing that again would be torture and he never wants to again atleast now.

So quickly Owen lowers Apos' hands from her shoulder and back to Apos' side.

“I'm fine. I'll be fine. Just my.. Just my gift.” Miracle, Curse, Torture, and everything in-between.

Apo eventually settles on sitting next to Owen on the bed and glancing over every ten seconds.

Eventually Sausage comes back voice chipper and smiles wide.

Owen thinks it's fake. Now that she has seen the small genuine frown flaked across it the smile seems so fake. So unreal. So ingenuien.

“Welcome back.” Apo says her voice wavering. Maybe she had a friend with panic attacks once or something. Maybe that's why she's so worried. Owen doesn't think about it too hard, thinking, remembering is painful anyway. Just do what you're going to do next.

Easy.

“Hey Sausage.” Owen smiles a little, waving politely.

“Hey guys! Pearl you good?” His voice is chipper and he goes over to where Pearl is back to being a starfish.

“Mmmp well enough..” Pearl mutters with an awkward shrug.

“Good. I got some bread! I made a farm earlier and it did some growing!!” He stuffs some bread into a chest.

Owen blinks and sighs leaning her head onto Apos' shoulder. This is what having a group is like, what having a bed and a reliable food source is like. How normal average people feel. Owen doesn't really care that it's a death game right now that can wait.

Owen knows a moment before he slips into sleep that she will but he doesn't even try to st

op it and falls asleep on Apo’s shoulder with Sausage talking in the background.
