Summary
The grass was wet beneath him, seeping through the thin fabric of his jeans, but Finney couldn't make himself care.
The damp was real. The cold was real. The sun on his face, too bright, too much, burning spots into his retinas every time he opened his eyes— that was real. He kept them closed instead, listening to the others breathe, listening to the wind move through trees he couldn't see, listening to the world continue its indifferent rotation.
"We need to move," Vance said, his voice cutting sharp through the drowsy quiet. "We can't just sit here. Someone's going to see us."
"Let them see," Griffin murmured again from somewhere to Finney's left. His voice had that faraway quality again, the one that meant he was staring at something inside his own head. "I don't care. I just want to sit."
