i: dancing
Immediately after both their official teacher and very much unofficial one had agreed to the dancing lesson, Tetia lost no time in claiming Riche as her partner, clinging onto her like a girl on a mission.
That, of course, left Coco with only one option. Not like she minded it.
Well, she did mind it, to properly honor the truth. But it was in the best possible way, actually. After all, just as the word ‘dancing’ had been pronounced for the first time that day, her mind had instantly conjured Coco herself twirling and swaying to the music alongside Agott. So there might be a chance for such a thing to become true… unless her friend chose to skip the activity altogether, or wanted to negotiate with Tetia over a change of partners.
There was more excitement than nervousness bubbling up inside Coco’s stomach when she turned towards Agott with the intention of asking, still.
“So! I was thinking we could…”
“Yes, dance with me.” Agott said before she even had time to doubt or stutter, holding out a hand for her to take. “Is this your first time with this style?” When Coco nodded, she shrugged as if it didn’t matter. “Well, this is meant to be a beginner’s exercise, so you should be fine. And I can guide you through it, too.”
‘Please, do.’ Was the first thought that crossed Coco’s mind. Nodding, she took Agott’s hand, and needed no instruction to place the other over her shoulder.
How she didn’t blush like crazy, Coco would never know.
“Alright.” The way Agott cleared her throat before continuing and bringing her own free hand to Coco’s waist wasn’t lost on her. If she was even a smidge nervous too, it may be that… “Ready?” It was possible, but right then she would better focus.
“Ready.” Coco nodded again, just in time for the lesson to start.
ii: soulmates
“Well, I don’t know.” Riche was saying, which prompted Coco to glance up and away from her notebook in curiosity. “I doubt just meeting them is enough.”
“I get what you mean, really. But isn’t it still sweet, the idea of fate already having someone-- or some ones, for you?” Tetia replied, laying on her back with a dreamy expression drawn all over her face. At that point both her friends’ spell practice had been effectively interrupted, and Coco found herself greatly at risk of ending up the same; the conversation was that interesting, and that was without knowing what the exact topic was. Even if she, obviously, had an inkling already.
Besides, it wasn’t going to be long before she was downright included. Her and Agott.
“I mean, sure. But I still stand by what I said.” Riche added, before Tetia turned towards where both Coco herself and Agott were sitting with a big grin on her lips and somewhat of a plea sparkling in her eyes.
“Alright, what do you two think?” She asked, in the way she used to do when ‘begging’ for back-up. “About soulmates, that is.”
“Oh.” Was all Coco could say at first.
Of course, with that last bit of information, all the pieces clicked together in place, as well as confirmed how her previous suspicions were indeed correct. Forming an actual response, though, would take a bit anyway even when she had been somewhat prepared for that. Funny, right?
“Well, I-- guess it’s a bit like magic?” She somehow managed to say, once again running out of words when trying to further explain what she meant with that.
Luckily, Agott seemingly came to the rescue with an answer of her own.
“I agree.” She said, looking at Coco and nodding in a way that made it so Coco couldn’t hold eye contact with her for long. Not like there was any need to force herself to, since shortly after they were both looking at their friends instead. “I think comparing it with magic is fair: they are usually seen as this thing you can obtain or not, and are easy to master. When, in reality? Everyone could have them, but it takes time, work and will instead.” She shrugged. “You cannot simply rely on luck, or fate and so on?”
“How mature, hm.” Tetia turned around, laying on her stomach instead, and glanced directly at Agott before saying. “And do any of you know someone who could end up becoming that kinda soulmate?” The mischief in her tone wasn’t lost on Coco.
“You’re going too fast there, Tetia.” Riche replied, but also snickered for a split second. Like she knew exactly what Tetia was doing.
Coco, meanwhile, couldn’t help but open and close her mouth a couple times-- off-guard as one could be. That didn’t seem to be the case for Agott, who simply rolled her eyes and went back to the glyph she had been working on before Tetia nudged them into the conversation.
“Alright, break time is over. At least for me.”
iii: domesticity
That day was going to be the day she asked, Coco thought as Agott’s knock on her door woke her up, a habit they had established in the course of almost a month. That day was going to be the day she asked, she wordlessly repeated while changing into her everyday clothes and brushing her hair.
That day was going to be the day.
By that hour, Teachers Qifrey and Olly would have been awake for quite a while and had breakfast (together, too, that was a habit of theirs) unless it was only Qifrey and they didn’t see Olly awake until way later on. Meanwhile, there would be about another hour as well before Tetia and Riche arose from their room. Therefore, if Coco finally asked and Agott said yes, it would be just the two of them.
Such a fact, needless to say, was precisely and exactly why Coco was having a hard time with suggesting something so ordinary.
And she knew for a fact she wouldn’t be struggling that much if it was Tetia or Riche.
“Hi.” She greeted Agott with, upon exiting her bedroom and meeting her in their joint study room. As per usual, she was getting all study supplies ready to start practicing right away when finished breakfast. And, speaking of breakfast… Well, there went nothing. Or everything, depending on the answer she got. “I-- I know you usually eat in your room, and you don’t have to change that if you don’t wanna, but if you do wanna…” Breathe, Coco, breathe. “Would you like to have breakfast together?”
At the moment she finished, her cheeks were starting to get tinted with pink, and Agott’s eyes were fixed on her too, only making things harder. Though, unless hope was making her see what she wanted too… there was some color in Agott’s face as well.
“... Oh.” Agott replied first, blinking like she hadn’t expected that question. But whatever hesitation she had in her didn’t last too long. “Sure, let’s go.”
So maybe, maybe, Coco wasn’t just seeing what she wanted to after all.
iv: medieval
“What do you think we’d be, in a world like that?” Coco asked, referring to the book that rested in Agott’s lap. Passing the pages had become a task meant for teamwork ever since she had joined and they had entwined their hands together. A world like theirs, yes, but around a century prior and with no magic to discover or channel.
“What would you like to be?” Agott asked in return, and her answer came rather fast because it was that clear.
“I’d be the seamstress’ daughter.” Because that was what she had been before her mistake took her mother away. “And I’d like to grow up to be a teacher.” Because that was what called for her the most, in a scenario where she could keep both magic and her mother.
“Of course you would say that.” Agott replied, and there was fondness in her voice.
“What about you, hm?”
“Hm.” Agott sort of repeated before continuing. “Perhaps a knight, but not like the Knights Moralis. One that would keep travelers safe, help those who need it, protects a small village… those things.”
“I’d bet that knight would have all the girls in the vicinity yearning for her.” Coco said, caressing Agott’s hand with her thumb.
“Maybe.” It wasn’t that usual, seeing Agott turn her face away as her cheeks tinted a little with pink, for the two of them were more used to these things and due to her not hiding such a thing so often either. “But she’d only be interested in the seamstress’ daughter.”
