One Way Trip: Please wait for Return Date

Summary:

Alix thinking about life in the Burrow. From the present to the futures in front of her.

Notes:

TW: Mentions of Alix wishing she would die. It's not like 'major' (I'm spouting pure nonsense sorry) but it's there. Just putting a warning.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Bunnyx wondered what would drive her insane first.

All the ruined timelines. Or her loved ones moving in without her.

She didn't have any strong guesses. The former is traumatizing immediately. But and she hopes she doesn't, she might become numb and unfazed depending on the frequency of those failed timelines.

The latter is just a form of self-inflicted torture. Sure she was, mostly, just making sure they were okay. It was selfish to want them to pause their lives.

Her older selves had lives. They were allowed to get out. But even then, she sees them in the Burrow too much for it to be healthy. Though Alix had all of time at her fingerprints, she just wanted to go home.

Her older selves allowed her to have a mental crisis. They knew that trying to prevent it would lead to disaster.

The main rule in the Burrow was simple: Never leave a young Bunnyx alone in the Burrow. At least not until weeks have passed. The rabbit never forgets. So why torment her with unnecessary futures that could easily be prevented with a watchful eye?

Alix wished it wasn’t her. She wanted to be a hero because her future self was. Would she even still want it by then? Well the obvious answer was yes. Because she still was much into the future.

Didn’t feel obvious.

Alix looked at her older-self, “What are you doing?”

“Nothing important. I’m thinking.”

“About what?”

“You’ll know some day.”

Seriously!?

“Oh come on,” Alix flopped dramatically, “You probably have the only interesting thing in your head right now. And you won’t even share.”

“Just wait 10 years and you’ll know.”

“I’ll forget we even had this conversation by then!”

“Deja vu don’t worry.”

Sometimes, Alix hated herself. This was one of them.

Alix took a deep breath, “Are…you afraid of blood?”

Bunnyx sighed, “No not really. At your age definitely. But this kind of work gets dirty. With us and Viperion, we’re stuck with remembering it all. With every failure, my reaction gets shorter. Pretty sure Granny can see someone die in front of her and not be too fazed.”

“Oh…”

“Well don’t worry kid. It gets better.”

They have a habit of saying that. The phrase has lost meaning by now.

“Thanks Older-Me.”

It was horrible. A villain destroyed everything. Her friends’ contorted bodies laid on the streets. Not to mention all the twisted bodies of civilians. Ladybug and Cat Noir sharing their last declarations of love before death.

Granny-Bunnyx sighed, “You know what to do Mini-Me.”

Alix nodded and rewind.

Now she fixed it. No one would remember it. Except for her shaky legs of course. She cried. Granny-Bunnyx held her in a hug.

“I know Mini-Me. You can cry.”

The worst part was that she needed to approach her friends to warn them as if she didn’t just see them all die. It was very much whiplash. Seeing all your friends dead, to them being victorious and alive.

This was her life now. And most of the time she can’t even see her friends unless they are going to die. Her visits were associated with impending doom. So other than being Bunnyx, she doesn’t stay long.

Please, she just wants to go home. She wants to see her family again. Her friends as well.

Maybe they already forgot about her? Or she won’t be able to find her way home. What would she even do when her older selves have to leave her completely alone?

From watching the heroes from the time window, she waited for the sign. That it was safe to go home. Still no sign.

Why didn’t this job come with a one-way ticket? She’ll likely die here. Why can’t she just go home?

It should be a compliment. A badge of honor. Not only was she trusted with a Miraculous. One of time travel at that. She’s trustworthy and hardy. Why can’t she act like it? She’s meant to be tough for this job.

Just hold on for a little longer. You’re not insane yet.

So far, both options are winning.

Notes:

Alix is going to come back with needing therapy. My time-travelling traumatized bean.

I might write a fic where Alix breaks her leg and everyone but her cares.

(In seriousness, someone will need to pay for her therapy because she's definitely in need of it.)
