the village works
as society does.
a man goes to the ocean
and grabs buckets of water.
he treads back
muscles showing
as the women stare and gawk
waiting for their jobs.
as the water is dropped off
and the women rush to work
trying to impress the man
and trying to finish the work.
they filter the water
and finish the job.
the man takes
each glass.
one after another
he tries each glass
seeing if it fits his standard.
the standard he made.
he likes three
of fifty and takes them.
the other women work harder
for the next men.
why can the women judge
the effort the men put in
to get the water,
instead of this?
