Chapter Text
Sleep was a foreign concept to most angels, especially higher ones.
That includes Eggchan, his nights usually consist of staring at a wall or doomscrolling. Which he recently discovered was a common human activity.
It took him a while to know how to operate a phone, but he got a hang of it.
Eating was also in the category of foreign for him. Angels aren't affected by hunger, which resulted to never needing to consume food.
Eggchan finds that stupid.
Food was delicious, if anything it was one of the only reason he hasn't packed up his things and headed back to ⏃⟒⏁⊑⟒⍀.
The sweet taste of maple syrup on his fluffy pancakes that he just made for breakfast was heavenly.
The chocolate milk was the cherry on top.
What he wouldn't do to stay in this blissful moment forever...
Unfortunately, he is employed.
Eggchan munch slowly, trying his best to savor every bite. He 'woke' up early so he has a lot of time before his work starts.
He was able to land a job at a coffee house close to his house. It was a thirty minute walk at best.
It was rare to find such a nice place to stay in a city that wasn't infected with smoke and whatever else the heros dragged along with them.
Of course, he didn't leave his home unprepared. He made sure to atleast have enough of the currency used in this region.
Although, he might have went over board.
Doesn't matter, not when his sweet pancakes were running out and his free time was dissappear by the second.
As he sips his final drop of chocolate milk, he gets up and sets his dishes on the sink. He can clean them up when he gets back.
Not like he has any guests to impress.
Eggchan heads to his closet to get dressed up, the workplace provided a uniform for the workers, but that doesn't mean he can't add his own little tweaks.
He brushed his white messy hair, styling them to rest his bangs on top of his right eye- his weaker eye- and let his left eye be free from getting blocked.
His outfit, a plain white long sleeved shirt with a beige cardigan on top. His boss really wanted them to look 'aesthetically' pleasing. Whatever that meant.
Apparently, it's a trending thing. Egg still has no clue what that means.
His pants were his to choose, thankfully. Black baggy jeans were good enough.
Does it really matter what he wears if in the end it will be all be blocked by those obnoxious looking beige aprons?
He has no clue. He's new to this whole thing, after all.
Eggchan grabs his bag, double checks if he has everything he needs and heads out the door. Triple checking the locks before, finally, making his way to the coffee house.
The walk was peaceful enough, seeing as it was six in the morning. And only a fool would be rude enough to disrupt society at such time.
The coffee house doesn't open until seven, but he shows up early to get everything cleaned up and working.
He is, surprisingly and weirdly, the only employee of the coffee house. Which made this a normal routine for him.
Despite being the only employee of a coffee house, it wasn't overwhelming.
Fortunately, the place wasn't popular or well known. It was an ordinary one story coffee house with a little garden in the back to take pictures or just breath.
Eggchan is surprised it hadn't gone bankrupt from the lack of customers. He wasn't going to complain though, it just meant less work for him and more doomscrolling.
It pays him well, so who is he to ask questions?
Don't provoke the hand that provides to you. Or something like that, he isn't sure.
The street by the coffee house was bare. It was normally empty at these times, the coffee house was in such a perfect spot to avoid crowds and villain attacks.
It was a little too convenient, but he's not one to complain.
Eggchan unlocks the door of the place and enters, his nose is instantly welcomed by the scent of ground coffee and the earthy smells of the sunflowers everywhere.
In his humble opinion, the place should lessen the amount of sunflowers. It was getting annoying to water them everyday.
He hasn't proposed the idea to the boss yet. Mostly because the boss is never around.
Eggchan turns on the dim lights, he makes sure to keep the sign outside turned so the 'closed' part was displayed to the outsiders.
He walks behind the counter and turns on the more obnoxiously bright lights. He's always hated them.
Thankfully, his time working here helped him adapt to the brighness. Doesn't mean he can't complain.
Eggchan reluctantly puts on his apron. He sighs as he picks up a towel to start cleaning.
He always wonders how things get so dirty around here so quickly. His home was never like this.
Time passed by quickly as he wipes the tables and waters the plants, it always did after the first week of his employment here.
By the time he's done, it's ten minutes before the shop opening. As usual.
Eggchan likes his job. Mostly because it barely has any customers, but also because it's very calming.
Despite the annoyingly strong smell of the sunflowers, it was very pretty. The little garden attached to the coffee house is his favourite spot.
He usually spends his time there after shifts.
The only problem with his job is that Eggchan is the only employee. So his shift stretches from 7am in the morning- not counting the extra hour to clean up everything- to 9pm into the night. 10pm on Sundays.
Now, Eggchan isn't that knowledgeable on human culture and related things. However, he gets the feeling a 14 hour shift isn't normal.
He questioned his boss once and never got a straight answer.
As much as Eggchan wanted to complain and argue with his boss, the pay made his mouth zip shut.
Now, as mentioned for the nth time, he's not an expert, but that amount is unbelievably high. And he wasn't gonna let a couple extra hours stop him.
He's used to it anyway.
Eggchan glances at the clock before walking towards the sign. He flips it around signalling the opening of the coffee house.
He heads to the counter and pulls out his phone. Here comes 14 hours of doomscrolling and reading in this new website he has discovered.
Hours pass uneventfully, everytime he hears a ding indicating someone entering the coffee house he drops his phone to take the person's order.
So far he's served two men and three women, in the span of 9 whopping hours.
He loves his job.
Yes, one of the ladies threatened to throw hot coffee on him if he didn't remake her drink, but other than that it was another peaceful day.
It wasn't even his fault she didn't like it.
Why would you ask for espresso if you don't like bitter coffee?
Eggchan frowns when he notices his phone's charge. 3%. Why do these little things run out of battery so quickly.
Thankfully, he has a charger at hand, but it's nowhere near the counter so he has to stand by the counter doing nothing for the rest of his shift.
Stupid tiny batteries.
He might as well turn on the TV. It's a small hanging one, positioned to be displayed for all to see.
No one really sat and drank their coffee, so it was a pointless little TV that hasn't been used by anyone other than Eggchan himself.
The news played. And he gets reminded why he doesn't turn this on more often.
It doesn't have the good channels.
Not that the news were boring- okay he found them boring. So what? Sue him.
They were always talking about some villain attack or how this hero said they like their coffee made in a specific way and everyone should now do the same!
Yes, he's a victim of those stupidly detailed coffee drinks.
And he, sadly, did make it for whoever asked. It never turned out good. The customer always complained about how he 'didn't make it right' and how 'it's supposed to taste good because a hero made it'.
Eggchan reluctantly listens to the news reporter ramble on about a project some hero named 'White Star' was planning on creating.
"...And with that, we warn everyone to..."
Eggchan stares at the TV as the news reporter starts spouting pointless safety measurements that no one will listen to.
Something about Villains being more aggressive lately. Not that he noticed. Or cares.
Ding
He averts his attention from the screen onto the source of the sound. A customer.
Eggchan straightens up and picks up his notepad. Despite being the one making the drinks his memory isn't the best. And asking the customer to repeat themselves while he makes their drinks has never done him any good.
"Hello, what would you like to order?"
The customer had short black hair, red eyes and wore a red hoodie. Accompanied by a matching red bandana. The horns on his head made it obvious that the guy was a demon hybrid.
Eggchan focused on his notepad to write down the order that... never came?
He glances back at the guy in front of him and gives him a questioning look. Said guy was staring very intensely at the coffee menu.
he was biting his inner cheek and tapping the counter. His whole body language scream nervous.
Eggchan sets down the notepad and pen attached, he stares directly at the demon hybrid before clearing his throat.
The guy jumps slightly, which shocks him a little, what in the world has this guy on edge?
Eggchan waits while the guy takes his sweet time to find his words and spit it out. Eggchan resists the urge to just tell the guy to get it over with.
Customer service, what a pain.
"Uh- hey!" The guy finally speaks.
"Hey."
...
Eggchan resists the urge to facepalm as the guy continues to stay silently. He usually doesn't mind the shy customers, but this one is staring at him so intensely and tapping his finger against the counter so harshly.
And Eggchan is 9 hours in his shift and his phone is dead.
So you can't blame him.
"Are you going to order anything?"
This seems to get the guy out of his stupor, he flails his hands and nods frantically, "Oh- yeah yeah!"
Eggchan picks up his notepad and waits once again, this time his focus is on the guy. Who is skimming through the menu again.
Calmer this time around, so he guesses that's a win.
"I'll take a Spanish Latte, add a little more of the sweet stuff!"
The guy- it was really tiring to call him that- spoke enthusiastically, a complete different tone from when he first came in.
But not an unwelcomed one.
"Alright. Name?"
The name thing wasn't a necessity, since there are barely any customers. However, Eggchan decided it was needed for him.
His memory was so bad that the one time there were three customers at once, he had no clue which drink was whose.
To say he was embarrassed was an understatement.
"It's Mapicc."
Eggchan writes down the name at the bottom of the page. He rips the page and sets it down on the tiny bulletin hanging by the counter wall.
He grabs a cup and starts preparing the drink.
Usually, he makes the drink and then serves the customer, takes the money handed to him, the customer leaves or makes a complaint and then they leave.
No conversation needed.
This guy, now known as Mapicc, decided he wanted to break Eggchan's peace.
"Hey, sorry about earlier... I've just been stressed lately..." Mapicc, he notices, sounds sheepish and embarrassed.
Eggchan glances at him for a second before focusing back to his job. "No worries." And that should be it.
No need to continue the conversation.
Of course, nothing goes as Eggchan wants.
"Thanks, dude.... I just got in an argument with a friend if mine and it hit me hard...." He pauses, tapping the counter faster, and then continues "... he just never tells me anything! Like we've been friends for years... he never tells me anything."
What is even going on.
"He swore to never lie to me again! And then what does he do? He lies!" A sudden thud sounds through the coffee shop and Eggchan knows for a fact there's a dint on the counter now.
Why is a complete stranger opening up to him?? Is this normal here?
Eggchan has no clue, but he suspects it might be because of his Angel origins. His Aura makes those around him feel safe and protected.
And also makes people open up faster.
"I don't know what to do... he's my best friend, but sometimes I feel like I'm not his best friend, you know?" No, he doesn't know actually.
"I don't know if I should forgive him..." Mapicc buries his face into his hands. He looks like he's on the verge of tears and Eggchan internally panics.
The drink was done. However, this seems like a bad timing to say that.
Hesitantly, he walks up to where Mapicc is seated. In front of the counter on one of the cushion stools.
He sets the drink on the right side, and as he suspected that is a dent on the left side of the demon hybrid. Heavy on demon, because what the fuck.
Eggchan sighs quietly as he thinks about how he will have to fix this up with his own money.
Mapicc raises his head and stares at the cup by him. His eyes widen as he seems to realise something.
Eggchan holds back a flinch as the odd customer suddenly straightens up.
"I'm so sorry!" He exclaims, "I didn't mean to dump all that on you. I don't even know why I say all that!"
Eggchan knows the reason why he 'dumped' all that, but decides against saying anything. That won't do him any good.
Instead, he decides to advice the oddest customer he's had in a long while. Not that he knows anything about friendship, but he feels like he owes him since he's the reason Mapicc vented to him.
"It's fine." His voice held no indication of comfort or annoyance, as it usually was like. Mapicc grabbed the drink, and averted his gaze from him.
Eggchan eyes Mapicc's hand, the hand that is crushing the drink he made.
"Relax." At that the hold loosened, a tiny smile threatened to make it way to Eggchan's face.
"You're situation seems complicated. I'm not a professional, but.." He pauses as Mapicc stares at him. The gaze was intense and Eggchan had the urge to slap him, "You're friend, he lies a lot. That's not healthy. Talk to him privately, but not in a way that makes him feel cornered. In an inviting way. Make him know that whatever happens you won't leave him."
Eggchan has no clue what he's saying, but it sounds right enough.
"Don't forgive him easily though. If he wronged you, tell him how you feel about it. How you don't like it. And only forgive him when he shows- not says- that he won't repeat his actions."
Eggchan averts his gaze from Mapicc, he was never good with eye contact. Unfortunately, his eyes landed on the newly made dent. Dammit.
He grabs a towel and wipes down on the counter, waiting for the guy to pay and leave hopefully.
"Thanks..." Mapicc stutters out, his voice was steady yet his hold on the drink was a little too strong for Eggchan's liking.
Eggchan hums and sets the towel aside. The TV was still on. Talking about some stupid Villain attack on the other side of the city.
"This is really good!"
Eggchan wants to go home.
"Bro. How isn't this place bustling with people? This is the best coffee I've had in a while." As if trying to prove his point, he slurps louder.
'Don't jinx it I swear.'
Eggchan glares at the demon. He can't handle more customers. The point of working here was because there were no customers!
He looks at the clock, 5:39, he feels his heart shatters into a thousand pieces.
"I have got to come here more often!"
Mapicc says it so happily that Eggchan thought he hallucinated the past five minutes. There's no way this guy is the same guy that was on the verge of tears a moment ago.
Eggchan hopes he never comes back.
Mapicc stands up, drinking the Spanish Latte like it would run away. "I'll see you later! That's a promise." With that he starts walking towards the door.
Before he could fully leave, Eggchan clears his throat, "You forgot to pay.".
Mapicc freezes and turns around, a sheepish grin graces his face and he reaches into his pocket.
He heads back to the counter and hands Eggchan the money. "Sorry about that..".
He walks away and Eggchan swear he heard him mutter a silent 'thanks again', but that might just be his imagination.
That was the weirdest conversation he's had this month.
Hopefully that guy doesn't come back.
The hours passed painfully slow after that encounter. His mind wouldn't stop replaying the interaction he had.
His phone has yet to finish charging and the TV was now playing a random documentary about fishes.
He loves fishes. However, he knows everything the documentary is stating so he just resorted to admiring the fishes being shown.
One day. One day, he will go fishing and catch the biggest fish to ever exist.
As he was day dreaming, a ding Interrupted his thoughts. He sighs as he grabs his notepad before welcoming the customer.
"Welcome. What would you like to order?"
Eggchan glances at the odd looking person.
The guy looks like he came out of a victorian show. If everyone wore purple. Long purple hair, purple outfit with a little black and gold jewelry but who's looking at the details?
Not Eggchan.
Although something feels odd about this guy.
He looks like he's cosplaying a villain.
Oh.
He is a villain.
Eggchan wants to slap himself for taking so long to realise that, but he blames the long shift to his slowness. He's 12 hours in. Cut him some slack.
Eggchan squints, the villain looks familiar, yet he can't seem to put his finger in it. Or something like that.
Purple. Purple... Eclipse.
This is the villain Eclipse. What luck does Eggchan have. One of the most dangerous- if not it- is in his coffee house.
The guy that could turn this place to smithereens with a click of his fingers. He certainly is lucky!
Eggchan resists the urge to yell and stares at the guy- villain- customer. He isn't threatening his life, so that has to mean he's chill. Right?
Hopefully.
Eclipse raises an eyebrow and grins.
'Please just order.'
He misses this morning, when no weird guy bothered him and no villain entered the coffee house.
Eggchan glances at the horns the villain had. The demons that bothered him.
"Caramel macchiato, add some cream at the top and sprinkle some caramel syrup. A lot of cream."
And the damn sweet tooth they have.
"Name?"
That was a stupid question to ask. Not that he can take it back now.
Eclipse grin widens and he tilts his head, "You don't know me?"
Eggchan internally grimaces, he could have just answered his question, but nooooo! All demons have to be difficult these days.
Eggchan writes his name on the corner of the pages and rips it out to hang, "it's just customary."
He grabs a cup and watches as Eclipse stares at him before going to sit by one of the tables in the corner.
Eggchan falls into a familiar rhythm as he makes the order. He ignores the fact that said order is for a villain that has kill counts higher than he could even imagine.
Just two more hours before he can close up and pass out on his bed. Just two.
Eggchan walks towards the table where Eclipse has seated himself and was staring at him the whole time.
"Here's your drink, pay up by the counter." Eggchan hope he takes the drink and leaves, he doesn't even have to pay, but, of course, Eclipse stays seated and sips from his diabetes drink.
Eggchan holds back a sigh and turns to walk back to the counter. However, he feels a hold on his wrist. He yanks it off instantly and turns to glare at the demon.
Said demon was staring at him wide eyed. As if he didn't expect him to do that, Eggchan clears his throat and squints at the guy.
"Is there something wrong?"
"Yeah."
Now, Eggchan didn't expect him to say yes.
"You not filling a report." He sounds upset about that, or conflicted. Eggchan doesn't really care.
Eggchan's glare turns confused, did the demon want him to file a report?
"Did you want me to?"
Instantly, Eclipse shakes his head. Eggchan could even make out a little panic in his movement.
Eggchan hums.
"I'm a villain? Hello? Do you have no self preservation, bro?" Eggchan stares blankly as Eclipse points at himself while speaking.
"Listen, i don't care who you are as long as you pay for your drink."
At least that's what his boss said.
"I don't care who or what comes here, just make sure they pay and you can do as you please, even if they pay half the price or quarter it. As long as they pay."
The boss also said something about always wearing gloves, but that might just be a health regulation part.
The dumbfounded look on the demon's face makes him suppress a snort. It's a stupid look for someone so feared.
"If that's all, I'll take my leave."
Eclipse nods dumbly, as if he's not entirely there. Eggchan doesn't doubt that.
7:47, a little over an hour left. He can do this.
Eggchan gets lost in the screen that is fishes. And fishes and more fishes.
Blobfish, what a sad fish, not just because of it surface level look. To be made fun of and known for only your bad looks despite it no-
"Here."
An amount of cash, that Eggchan knows is way above the price of the drink, was slammed down the counter.
Eggchan stares at the amount before focusing his gaze onto the villain. "This is way too much."
Eclipse scoffs, he raises an eyebrow and crosses his arms in offense.
"Bro. You know who i am. This is technically nothing." And he isn't lying. This guy has stolen from many vaults, Heroes, civilians and even other Villains.
Eggchan sighs, "this is still too much. My boss might get suspicious, dude."
Eclipse grumbles, but takes half the cash off and leaves the rest. Yet it's still too much. Whatever, his boss will- hopefully- let it pass.
He grabs the cash and puts it all in the cash register.
He expects for the villain to be gone. As always today, he's wrong.
"Is there anything else?"
Eclipse stares at him intensely, his hands are clenched in the crossed position. He face is switching from conflict to annoyed to nervous to conflicted and you get the rest.
Eggchan really just wants him gone at this point. It's too late for him to deal with this.
This villain stayed for over an hour taking small sips of his drink, and now he has to stay late to clean up and double check all the locks.
Finally, after what felt like hours, Eclipse says something, "what's your schedule?" Eggchan stares.
"I'm the only employee. So, you're in luck."
"Huh?"
Eclipse stares back. And then just leaves with a baffled look.
Eggchan stares at the door as the villain leaves and let's out a sigh of relief. He's free. Now, all he has to do is clean up, lock the place and walk back home.
The streets weren't as quiet as the morning was. Yet they weren't all that bad, he could tune them out and he did.
What he couldn't ignore was that awfully obvious feeling of being watched.
He knows exactly who is stalking him so unashamedly. They aren't being very subtle. He can't be bothered by this, he wants to drop on his bed and doomscroll and read books. Or even better make some ramen and read a book about fishes.
However, he can't have this random guy ruining his living space. So he heads into an alley way. And as soon as he doesn't feel eyes on him, he shoots up high into the sky and splashes an invisibility potion.
Don't ask him why he has that, not in this era of time. Potions are expensive yet help a lot.
"Fuck. Where'd he go??"
The voidling below him mutters. Eggchan barely glances at the voidling before flying away.
He can't be bothered by this.
"Home!" He cheers quietly. He misses this place despite being away for only 14 hours. Today was stressful.
Eggchan switches out his uniform for his blue silk pajamas, bless whoever made these comfortable pajamas.
He might just burst into tears because of them.
The dishes in the sink stare at him like a punishment. Screw his lazy past self.
Ramen, a meal he never knew of yet graced him with it's taste. Why would the ⏃⟒⏁⊑⟒⍀ forbid them from such taste...
Eggchan bites into a piece of ham while reading his book. A book about hybrids, unfortunately, he's read all the books about fish and fishing.
So he settled for this.
He turns a page and focuses more on this hybrid.
Demon hybrids,
Known to cause destruction and chaos wherever they go.
Blablabla yeah...
Pure demons have never been seen to this day. Demon come with shared species of blazes, enderman, wither skeletons, voidlings and rarely shifters.
There has been one case of a ender dragon- demon, which no longer exist. Fortunately, for our generation, it has been slayed many years ago by-
Bunch of false crap.
He literally met one today. Do people not know that Eclipse is a ender dragon demon? That explains a lot, yet nothing at all.
Eggchan sets his, now empty, bowl aside. Why does food leave so quickly, that's so not fair.
He skims through the pages of the stupid book. It's so outdated. Or maybe this era is just very racist. Or biased. Or whatever it is that makes this place so hated by other dimensions.
A book has never made his so frustrated.
He tosses the book aside and heads to his bedroom. He desperately needs a long rest.
If only he could actually sleep.
He has tried it before, keeping his eyes shut and not thinking about anything. It didn't work, he searched up ways to sleep and for some reason people count... sheep??
Eggchan is starting to adapt to the strange traditions here.
Although, he can never remember the saying people say.
He flops onto the bed and let's out a satisfied hum. The mattress was soft and cold. Blanket light on top of him, it's gentle warmth is what he would never get tired of. Eggchan loves his bed, if he could, he'd stay there all day and merge with the softness.
He grabs his phone from the side table, enters the pass code and clicks on his new favourite app.
Hopefully, tomorrow is a calmer day.
