The Other Birthday

Summary:

They've been dating for a few months now, when Whisper notices Tangle's behaving a bit... strangely at the start of the new year. Just what is her girlfriend up to?

Notes:

Work Text:

It started very… subtly, Whisper had noticed.

A few months after their very first date, Tangle had begun acting differently. Not super obviously at first; to anyone else, she's just… doing Tangle things, being Tangle. But this week, something changed. Tangle began to sneak out of the apartment every so often. Whisper didn't really think much of it, she just assumed that the lemur was going on midnight adventures; she's seen it happen before. Sneaking out at the start of a new year? Probably not too big of a deal.

And then, today, while they were shopping in Spiral Hill, Tangle made a strange detour. They were doing their monthly grocery run; walking through the snowy streets of Spiral Hill while wearing some comfy jackets and snow boots.

"Oh wait a second!! I'll be just a minute Whisp!" Tangle had cheerfully declared, stopping the shopping trip in its tracks. "I need to make sure something is ready. I'll be right back!" Before Whisper could even think to ask what that something was, the lemur had fled the scene. She was gone for a good minute before she returned… with nothing new on her person. She did, however, look like she had run a marathon. The lemur wiped her brow, grinning bright at Whisper. "Okay, taken care of! Let's get back to our shopping, I think the bakery's got fresh loaves right now!" She then ran off towards the bakery without giving the wolf a chance to talk. Whisper's used to Tangle being a bit all over the place, but this was… different. This was avoidance. A type that Tangle never really employed unless something was up.

The wolf tried not to let it bother her. She wasn't really the confrontational type when it came to Tangle's impulsive nature. If Tangle had something she was doing, and she didn't feel the need to tell Whisper, then it should just be okay, right?

So why did it bother her so much? As she roamed the slightly snowy streets of Spiral Hill, following the bounding lemur, she found herself wondering just what on earth Tangle was plotting. The very energetic girl didn't seem to have anything nefarious up her sleeve — it's Tangle, after all. The lemur was currently bouncing around to get new sponges and paper towels for the house, dipping in and out of stores and adding more groceries under her arms every time the wolf blinked. While she was doing so with her usual energy, that moment from earlier stuck with her. The wolf sighed, closing her eyes and shaking her head. It's probably nothing, right?

She then opened her eyes, and tried to look for Tangle. She had lost track of her when she was practically swinging from lamp posts towards the… what shop were they even supposed to go to next? Whisper checked her list, she's pretty sure they've gotten everything… The wolf began to prowl through the streets, glancing around. Where could Tangle be…? As she walked, her pointed ears perked up as she heard the lemur's voice. It sounded like she was talking to someone else.

Whisper carefully rounded the corner, and noticed the lemur coming back from a stand, looking… annoyed? What happened there? Whisper decided to approach, and coughed quietly to get Tangle's attention. The lemur blinked, and grinned as she turned to face Whisper, giving her a peace sign.

"Ohhh hey Whispy! I thiiink we've got everything!" She said with a big smile. Whisper stared at her for a second, trying to read into her girlfriend's face, before nodding.

"…Can't think of anything missing. What did you need from that stand?" This question caused the lemur to jolt a little, before Tangle shook her head.

"Ohhh, I was just wondering if they had anything yummy we could share on the way home, but I apparently asked right after their machine broke, haha!" Her tone of voice was almost impressively off. She then winked, and began to scurry off, "Last one back to the apartment's a rotten egg!" She said, rushing off with her grocery bags in tow. Whisper stood there for a moment, staring at the Lemur as she vanished towards their home.

She was going to get to the bottom of this, one way or another.

The wolf soon got home, finding Tangle watching TV on the couch. She started putting together what she knew… Tangle was sneaking out. Tangle was shopping for strange items. And the lemur was… not the best at lying. She could probably drag it out of her by force… but that wouldn't be a pleasant experience for either of them. She wants to trust Tangle; more specifically, she wants to trust that Tangle would tell her. But… she still had that itch to figure out what was going on for herself.

She wanted to give Tangle that chance to tell her at least, though. She sat down next to the lemur on the couch, dead silent as she leaned back against the cushion. She glanced over at the girl.

"…Anything interesting lately?" Whisper asked, keeping it casual. She paid close attention to Tangle's body language. The lemur jumped slightly, but tried to play it off.

"Oh! Well, not much, haha! I'm just doing, ya knowww, Tangle stuff." She said with a big grin. Whisper's brow twitched. This was… confusing for her. Usually if Tangle had something to hide, she was putting up more of a mask… her smile would be too wide, her eyes would be looking around for an escape. But as far as the wolf could tell… she wasn't this time. She was still hiding something, but that grin was genuine. Almost like she was looking forward to whatever she was hiding. Whisper scratched her chin, beginning to wrack her brain as she tried to comprehend this. This was… an interesting conundrum for sure.

"…Whisper?" Tangle's voice interrupted her train of thought, the wolf blinked. Whisper decided to not let the lemur know she's onto something; if Tangle's excited about this, then she wants to play along for now.

"Sorry, just… lost in thought." Whisper commented as she looked over at the lemur, before deciding to ask. "…cuddle and watch TV?" Tangle practically BEAMED at the thought, and nodded excitedly. Before Whisper could get another word out, that tail wrapped tightly around her and YOINKED her into a big hug. She sighed, smiling softly as she let the lemur pull her into a tight snuggle on the couch. Even if Tangle's hiding something, this is still the girl she fell in love with. She leaned in and nuzzled against the lemur's cheek as the two settled in to watch a show together.

After dinner and bed, Whisper made a decision. She was going to start looking into things; surely, if Tangle's sneaking around, there's gotta be some reason for it. But first, she wanted to see if the lemur was going to sneak out of the house tonight. Whisper had relayed an order to Orange, specifically; if the little wisp noticed Tangle sneaking out, they were to NOT confront the target, but instead go to awaken Whisper. The wisps usually join in on the cuddle pile from time to time, but sometimes they wander the apartment at night doing their own things; a wisp or two casually floating around the apartment isn't going to draw Tangle's suspicion.

As expected, Whisper felt herself being prodded awake by the face of a cute little rocket-shaped alien. She shook her head, chuckling as she reached out and hugged the thing close. She sat up in her sleepwear, and fumbled for the side table before grabbing her mask with one hand while the other squeezed her wisp buddy. She put it on over her face, looking directly to Orange through the mask's lens as she wrapped her arms back around them.

"…Where's the target? Notice anything?" She asked as she leaned back against the bed's headboard, fidgeting to get more comfortable. She wondered if she would need to get dressed, or if she could stay in her sleepwear. Orange wiggled in her grasp, before looking up at the wolf.

"<Indeed! I saw Tangle absconding through the kitchen window and taking off across the street! Strangest thing too, as I saw the girl swipe a decently sized container from the refrigerator before she left… I couldn't get close enough to see it, but it was wrapped up in a grocery bag, like to keep its contents hidden! That is all I saw, I swear.>" The Orange wisp remarked, filtered by the Mask. Whisper then watched them look anxiously to the side, and the wolf gently booped the wisp's side.

"…Is that everything?" She asked, tilting her head. Orange wiggled a little more, as if trying to get free, but Whisper's hug was too strong.

"<…Tangle noticed me before she left, and promised me that if I swore to secrecy, I would be allowed to have some of what was in the container. But she never revealed to me its contents. Forgive me for keeping this from you…>" The wisp finally relented. Whisper blinked, looking towards the kitchen. A promise to let them have some of it? So… the secret container had something edible in it? After a moment of deliberation, Whisper then gently pet the orange wisp.

"…No harm done. If she figure out I'm onto her… will leave your name out." She said with a small, playful smile. The orange wisp let out an eager chirp as Whisper let them go, moving her mask off the side of her face as she watched them float away.

Okay, so an edible secret that had to be refrigerated; if Tangle's taking it somewhere, the place has to be in Spiral Hill Village; Tangle's fast, but not Sonic fast. The wolf got out of bed, stretching as she made her way through the apartment towards the kitchen window Tangle rushed out of. She looked out over the area… what was in that direction? She could see several buildings, but nothing that felt like secret Tangle locations. It didn't help that Tangle's endeared herself to the entire community to some extent; anyone could be helping Tangle harbor her mystery item, whether it's Ron the Chili Dog Stand Owner, or… Jewel.

Jewel wasn't IN Spiral Hill at the moment, Whisper knew this. But… it doesn't mean Tangle wouldn't have access to her home or museum. The wolf began to deliberate going out the window to search the area… until she noticed a shape jumping through the darkness in the distance. Towards the apartment.

Tangle was already on her way back.

The wolf moved as fast as she could, practically catapulting herself through the bedroom door and into the bed, startling Green and Cyan who had been floating around the warm space Whisper had been laying on before and throwing her mask on the side table. She pulled the covers tightly over her, and tried to lay there for a moment and practice her breathing; she had to get the adrenaline of the sudden movement down before Tangle got back, otherwise the lemur would know she onto her. She also pulled Cyan and Green closer to her in an apologetic hug, wanting them to know she didn't mean to startle them by diving back into bed. After a minute of breathing, the wolf closed her eyes and feigned sleep, her head buried into the side of the pillow. She heard the sound of the lemur stumbling back into the apartment from the window.

"Whoa whoa whoa!!" She heard the rather hushed voice from the kitchen, clearly trying her best not to wake the wolf as she stumbled through the small room. After a moment, a familiar chirp, likely Orange looking for its promised 'something'. The wolf couldn't help but smirk at the thought. Tangle's voice then continued. "Sorry little buddy, hehe. You've gotta wait til Saturday before that happens, I forgot to mention that! My bad!"

Saturday. The end of the week. No wonder Tangle's been a bit more obvious today; it's Thursday. Meaning she's only got one more day to prepare. And Whisper… only has one more day to investigate. She'll have to make the most of it. She felt the lemur slip back into bed beside her, that familiar tail wrapping around to pull her into a snuggle. The wolf began to slip back into sleep properly… she'll figure this out. No matter what.

Friday started with an… interesting development. Tangle was completely absent at the start of the day. On one hand, this gave Whisper free reign to investigate. On the other, this meant that the lemur was likely desperately trying to bring everything together in one fell swoop; Tangle wasn't always the best at not putting things off until the last minute. After getting dressed, Whisper did find a note at least, scrawled hastily on a piece of paper and stuck to the fridge by a magnet.

"HEY WHISPER! GOING SHOPPING 4 SOMETHING WE FORGOT YESTERDAY! BE BACK LATER!"

The wolf smirked. She had seen both their lists before the trip, and knows they hadn't missed a thing. She isn't sure whether she finds the simplicity of the fib endearing or if she needs to teach Tangle how to lie better. She made her way out the door; it was time for answers. Given Tangle likely would've gotten it out of the way first, she decided to make her way to the stand that the lemur had walked away from grumpily. If she could figure out what the lemur was shopping for…

The shopping areas of Spiral Hill were thankfully quiet. It was still a bit early in the day, so most of the would-be shoppers were currently away given how chilly it could get mid-January; not that Whisper minded the cold. It wasn't hard for Whisper to locate the stall that she had seen Tangle at earlier. It was being run by a kindly old cat man. The wolf thought for a moment how best to engage, but decided the best option was the simplest one. She walked up to the stall, and took a small breath before asking.

"…Did Tangle try to buy from you yesterday?" She asked, keeping it short. The old man blinked, and scratched his chin.

"…Hmm… Tangle, yes. She did. She was trying to buy little balloons. For a celebration. Alas, I was out of the ones that said 'Happy Birthday' on them at the time, and told her I would have to get more of them out of storage for today. She seemed a bit grumbly at the moment, the poor dear, but then she bought them today no problem. She was so ecstatic to see those little things, it was like they filled her soul with light! " The old man smiled at her, which Whisper returned. The wolf nodded.

"Thank you. Have a… good day." She waved to the old man, and began to walk again. So, a birthday? Hmm… she's never been good with dates, but… she doesn't think anyone's birthdays line up like this. Tangle's own birthday is still a few months off… And it's not like Tangle to keep a birthday celebration secret, either… As she walked, lost in thought, she bumped into someone, catching them off guard and almost knocking them over onto the snowy ground. She just barely managed to catch them by the arm.

"Apologies…" She mumbled, and then she looked to see who it was…

Jewel? What was Jewel doing back in Spiral Hill? The beetle was looking up at her, a bit surprised as well judging by those eyes.

"Oh, uh, hey there Whisper! Are you okay?" The beetle asked, looking up at her. She was currently wrapped up in a rather large winter coat. Whisper smiled, nodding at her.

"Mm, am okay. You?" The wolf asked, to which Jewel responded.

"Yeah!" The beetle said with a smile as she finally pulled away from the wolf, brushing herself off. "What are you up to, Whisper?" Whisper took a moment to think about this. She can't just tell the beetle that she's suspicious about Tangle, right…? Especially if the lemur seems to be planning something likely harmless.

"…Some shopping. Forgot something yesterday." Using the same fib Tangle did in her note. Reaaaaal smooth, Whisper, the wolf thought to herself. Thankfully, Jewel didn't have any reason to doubt this, and seemed to take it at face value.

"Ooh, I see! I'm checking in on the museum." The beetle said with a casual, friendly tone. "We're getting in a new batch of minerals soon and I want to make sure I've cleared the space for them!" After a moment, she then looked around curiously. "Have you seen Tangle today?" The wolf blinked, and then shook her head. After that head-shake, Jewel nodded, "I see! I assume I'll see her later then!"

Whisper scratched her chin. For a moment, she almost contemplated casting suspicion on this, but then it hit her that she was maybe being a bit too paranoid. Jewel and Tangle were best friends, it's only natural that if Jewel was back in Spiral Hill for a moment, they'd meet back up, right? But the timing… coming back into Spiral Hill right as Tangle's sneakily setting something up? The wolf decided to ask one more question.

"…Hey Jewel, anyone's birthday soon?" She opened one eye a bit wider," Never been good with dates. You are. Any I should be aware of?" Whisper figured this'd be a good way to fish for a potential idea; even if nothing comes up, it might mean she'll be less caught by the seat of her pants if a birthday does come up soon. The beetle's eyes drifted to the side as she tilted her head, as if trying to remember herself for a moment.

"…Hm. I mean, Lanolin's is next month, but that's the soonest one I can think of…" Jewel then blinked, and looked up at Whisper," Oh, I should go get her gift in advance! I'll talk to you later, Whisper!" She waved at the wolf, looking ready to run off rather quickly… Whisper stood there for a second, before waving back.

"…See you soon. Don't be a stranger." She watched as the beetle flew off. She had a feeling Jewel might be more involved, but… nothing concrete. Still, good to have a reminder on Lanolin's birthday at least, she'll make sure to get her… something. Maybe a coffee mug…? She really need to get a better grasp on that girl's interests, but that's for another day…

The wolf ended up walking around the quiet streets of Spiral Hill for a bit longer. She was trying to put it all together in her head. An edible secret package. Tangle sneaking around a lot. Happy Birthday balloons. Jewel being back in town. Saturday. This all screamed like Tangle was putting together a surprise birthday party, but the only person whose birthday was any time soon was Lanolin and dragging Lanolin to a surprise party half a month in advance would be a recipe for disaster. This had to be something else, right?

At one point, she passed by the museum; she glanced through the glass of the door as she walked by, and noticed Jewel rearranging gemstones. This meant that at the very least Jewel was telling the truth about that part; she decided not to intrude though. It was beginning to get late and she didn't want Tangle to suspect anything, so better to get back earlier…

The wolf stopped by a small convenience store on the way back, getting a small soda for herself and a bag of chips. Also, a strawberry milkshake from the machine in the back; hopefully if Tangle DOES question why she's been out, she can bribe her with this and not let the lemur find out she's onto her.

Getting home was thankfully uneventful. She found the apartment occupied once more, Tangle currently in the kitchen making herself something to eat. The wolf slooowly snuck up on her, curiously looking her over. Nothing out of the ordinary, just an ordinary lemur girl in her usual clothes. She decided to start the conversation with the ace up her sleeve.

"…Strawberry Milkshake?" Whisper's voice almost made the lemur jump, and Tangle turned to look at her in surprise… before a big, enthusiastic grin formed when she saw the milkshake being held out to her. She put the food down and almost knocked Whisper over with her hug, the wolf having to angle herself very carefully to keep the drink from spilling.

"Ohhh Whisp, thank you so much! You shouldn't have!!" She said with a giggle, nuzzling against Whisper's neck. Whisper felt her cheeks turn pink, quietly chuckling as she let Tangle hold her like this for the moment. These moments made everything worth it, that's for sure. Tangle took the milkshake and started sipping it, looking very content as she used her tail to grab her plate before she headed for the living room. Whisper smiled as she went about to start making her own meal; no questions about where had been, which was a good sign. As she began to put her own meal together, she decided to ask a simple question just to see how Tangle would respond.

"So, what did we forget yesterday?" There was silence for a moment, before she heard Tangle speak.

"Ohh, that! Hehe, that was a misunderstanding, my bad! We now have two sets of Paper Towels though, so they'll last us a bit longer!" The lemur's voice rang out from the living room. Whisper smiled; it was a very thoughtful play, that's for sure. She's very close to having it all figured out now; she'll have to keep a careful eye out tomorrow. For now though… she gets to enjoy a night in with her favorite lemur.

She thought she was going to have to keep a careful eye out for Tangle's surprise today, but given she woke up to a sheet of paper laid over top the side of her head, it seemed she didn't need to look hard at all. The wolf rubbed her eyes as she sat up, the piece of paper falling slowly onto her still blanket covered legs. Tangle was absent once more; but of course, the note being left where there was no chance of Whisper being unable to find it was the more interesting thing here. The wolf slowly picked up the note, bracing herself as she opened her eyes a bit more to give it a good read, recognizing Tangle's handwriting instantly.

Dear Whisper!

You are invited to a special super secret awesome thing!! Don't tell ANYONE ELSE!!!
Please, come to Jewel's Museum and enter the back room! It's closed, but I left my spare key with Blue!
I hope you join us and we have fun!!
Love, Tangle!

P.S Bring an Appetite! Oh, and the wisps are invited too! I couldn't leave our favorite little guys out of this!!

The wolf tilted her head, but couldn't help but chuckle. She's been trying so hard to figure out what the girl was up to, but Tangle just… invited her. Whisper smiled at the thought; it was nice that whatever secret thing Tangle was up to, she was trusting the wolf with it too. It still didn't fully add up; the birthday party couldn't be for Whisper, as that had been months ago. A fun little celebration in with her favorite lemur… but that's a story for another time. The wolf stretched as she set the note down. She'll have to get ready fast; it wouldn't do to keep Tangle waiting, right?

After a minute, Whisper got fully dressed. She gently took the key from Blue and gave the little wisp a pat on the head for holding onto it for Tangle. She had her Wispon tucked into her cloak, and her wisps in their capsules; she didn't know what Tangle was up to, but she wanted to be ready for anything. She patted her cloak with a smile, looking down at the capsules slightly glowing with their respective colors underneath. She was ready.

The walk to the museum was rather pleasant. The sun was out, and the snow was almost fully melted now; this meant Whisper had to step around a few puddles, but it wasn't as cold as it had been the past week. The museum was, as Tangle had said, closed for the day. The wolf couldn't see anyone through the windows. She quietly moved to unlock the door, making sure to re-lock it behind her. She could hear her footsteps echoing as she made her way through the large open space, and braced herself as she headed towards the back. It was finally time to see what Tangle's been preparing all this week… She knocks on the door, and watches as it cracks open.

"Hello…?" A small, curious voice asked, and she sees Jewel's pink eyes looking up at her through the crack in the door. Whisper smiles uncertainly, but flashes the hand-written invitation Tangle gave her. The beetle's eyes widened, before she pulled the door open, "Come on in, Whisper! Tangle's on the couch! Heh, she's been practicing talking to you all morning…" The beetle shook her head as she went on in.

Practicing…? Was this some kind of confession or something? The wolf slowly but surely entered. It seemed to be a small rec room of sorts. There was a large TV on the back wall, a large table covered in fresh pizza boxes and 2-liters of soda, and some snack mixes; she recognized the favorites of the wisps among the mixes, meaning Tangle was definitely thinking of them. Most notably, aa nicely sized birthday cake took the center of the table, with… Tangle's name on it? This only added to Whisper's immediate confusion; And speaking of Tangle…

The lemur was currently sitting on the couch, looking somewhere between excited and anxious. She looked up at Whisper with a nervous grin.

"H-Hey Whispy! You uh… maybe, just might have noticed I've been a bit all over the place this week! And I uh… Um…" The lemur's tail wrapped around herself, as she began to fidget nervously with it. Jewel approached Tangle and put a hand on her shoulder, whispering words of encouragement to the Lemur . Tangle smiled and took a deep breath, before she scooted to the side a bit, patting the other seat on the couch. "…Would you like to… take a seat with me while we talk?"

Whisper sat down, and gently took her cloak off, letting it fall onto the cushion behind her. She then shimmied a bit closer to Tangle, and put her hand on the lemur's shoulder, feeling a slight tremble.

"…'m all ears, Tangle. Tell me what you need to." She said as she looked into those pretty purple eyes. The lemur blinked, and nodded, clearly feeling a bit more confident.

"…Okay. Okay, I can… can talk about this. I can do this." She said to herself, taking a deep breath. "…Today is a very special day. Jewel and I get together to celebrate it, but… if we're dating, or even just as close as we are, Jewel and I figured that uh… umm… It's… It's the day I…" She clammed up for a second. "I… It's Tangle's birthday!" She blurted out rather suddenly. Whisper tilted her head in confusion, and scratched the fur on the side of her own head.

"…Isn't your birthday in… April?" She asked quietly, to which Tangle shook her head.

"N-No that's my… the birthday I was born with… AUGH I sound so stupid!!" She clutched the sides of her head in frustration. Whisper gently squeezed the lemur's shoulder as she leaned in a bit more.

"…Not stupid. Please… continue." She mumbled, looking directly into those eyes again. Tangle took a steadying breath.

"…I wasn't… I wasn't always Tangle." She finally admitted, reaching out to hold Whisper's hands. "…A long time ago… there was a boy. A boy who… who felt like he was just… floating through life. Like everything was passing him by. He didn't feel happy at all with himself, and he… he didn't know why. He just assumed something was wrong with him. That he'd never be more than a speck of dust on the wind." Her tone was a bit somber as she began to explain. "Then… one day… he was at school and a new kid showed up. It was the start of the new year, and his hair had grown out a bit. And they… they could only see him from behind from their desk after they sat down. They thought… thought he was a girl and complimented her. And… it put thoughts in his head." She looked across the room at nothing. "…It felt… nice. In a way a compliment never felt before. And it stuck to them. They couldn't get it out of their head. Being called a girl felt… like they had just splashed their face with cold water. They began to… began to try things. They snuck one of their mother's dresses out of her dresser and tried it on. They poorly applied makeup to their face, and then they.. they looked in the mirror. It was… it wasn't them anymore, but… it was a glimpse. Of who they wanted to be." She sighed, and closed her eyes. "…They kept this desire a secret at first. They were scared. What if their friends treated them like… like someone else? Or even worse, made fun of them? And… and stopped being their friend?"

"…what happened… when someone found out?" The wolf asked curiously, leaning in a bit. She had a feeling now that she knew where this story was going, and wanted to hear her tell it. Tangle looked to Jewel, who smiled back at her and gave her an approving glance, the lemur then nodding as she continued.

"…Their friend… was kind. Understanding. Supportive, even. Helped her work up the courage to uhm, to be more of herself. And as she did… everything started to be more colorful. More vibrant. She felt like… like she had been freed from that boy's shadow. She was able to bound around all over the place and be… her. For the first time. For real." She laughed a bit, a big grin forming on her face. "It… it wasn't all sunshine of course. Her mom's kinda awful. She wasn't against her son becoming her daughter, but it didn't really do anything to change their… w-well, their problems with the new girl. But that doesn't matter. She isn't stuck anymore! She's free to be herself and be whatever she wants to be! She's a kick-butt hero who has traveled to places she couldn't even dream existed, and she's…" She clenched Whisper's hands tighter. "…She's got the coolest girlfriend this side of the planet." Tangle looked up at the wolf, smiling brighter. "…This is a celebration of the day… the day I realized I didn't have to be him anymore. The day I could be… I could be Tangle."

"…You're amazing at being Tangle." Whisper said as she leaned in to kiss her girlfriend on the cheek. "Thank you… for trusting me." The lemur's tail unraveled from around herself, and immediately darted to pull Whisper in. Tangle's body was shaking slightly from the overwhelming emotion, and Whisper simply locked her in place, holding her tight.

"…Thank you. I'm… I'm so glad you're okay with it. And… I want you and the wisps to join me and Jewel for our celebrations. I even ordered extra pizzas!" Tangle grinned at her. "We can have it all! Pizza! Snacks! Cake! Bad movies!! Multiplayer racing games! No badniks or Eggman plots, just three of- ooh wait, uhm, just the eight of us!! Hehehe~" She nuzzled Whisper's nose, tears in the corners of her eyes. "…I love you so much, Whisper. I was scared that if I told you, you might… see me differently."

"…Love you too. You're just yourself to me." The wolf said with a big smile, and smooched the lemur happily. "…how about… start celebrating then?" She asked, her tail starting to wag. The two snuggled up on the couch, and Tangle's tail began to sneak over towards Jewel, who was currently making sure the game console was plugged in properly, only to squeak as she got pulled back towards the couch to join in on the cuddle session, pinned against Tangle's left while the lemur had the wolf to her right. Whisper chuckled, shaking her head a little in disbelief at Tangle's shenanigans; she loved this silly lemur.

And tonight was going to be an amazing night, for the both of them, now that there was one less secret between them. A night where Tangle was Tangle, nothing more, nothing less.

Notes:

This work is a bit more personal for me than my other Whispangle fics and it was both very cathartic but also terrifying to write since I'm not used to being this vulnerable with my experiences
